Jason Brown

That was an amazing blog entry by an amazing person. It awes me that at such a young age he was able to learn the lessons of Sochi so quickly. Then again, perhaps his struggles earlier this season had something to do with this as well as handling the pressure of expectations. It will be interesting to see how he handles adding the quad.

LRK: great works of art that make you laugh? To start, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream. Mozart's Magic Flute. Monty Python. Certain shows by Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Jon Stewart....

You misunderstand me. I'm not saying that humourous - or exciting - things cannot be "Art".

Hmm I guess I did misunderstand you. I guess I think that both Dream and Magic Flute were written to entertain first and foremost just as movies are today. Anyway, no big deal! ;)

And Shakespeare's plays were written to entertain. But they are still art.

And while I'm about it, may I say, that it is difficult to appear like you haven't a care in the world when you're skating in a competition. It may be more difficult than portraying angst and stress when competing, just because a person is likely to be feeling angst and stress quite naturally in that situation.

Based on my own experience, I think you're right that a performer or competitor who is suffering from nerves will have to work extra hard to move beyond it in his or her performance. In fact, I think a successful comedic portrayal generally requires a ton of technique. However, I also think most performers start with a natural affinity for a certain kind of music or character, and that the hardest thing - especially under stress - is to perform something outside your natural comfort zone.

I am really impressed that Rohene and Kori keep pushing Jason to move beyond his comfort zone, and that he successfully rises to the challenge. It took him two seasons to get comfortable with Prince, but in the end he really sold it. I think Juke must have been even a bigger challenge, but he made huge strides with it from the beginning to the end of this season. Pretty amazing! ;)

Maybe it is just my imagination since I do not often watch the NBC broadcast but Johnny never has anything good to say about Jason. And even if he does say something nice it is just so sarcastic.

Well he was complimentary to the choreography and the costume change, but overall, yeah, not sure what their issue is. Interesting how the Eurosports guys talk about how great it was and thought it was Jason's best and then these two being so meh. Maybe they were tired of talking about the quad and felt the need to explain things to the viewer in some other way - wanted to really play up the he had to be perfect. Not really sure.

I don't know what Johnny's problem is with Jason, but the other man among the three commenting during the NBC telecast reminded the other two that Jason is only 20 and is in his first Worlds. I loved what Andrea quoted what Kori said about Jason -- Jason will be remembered for his artistry, consistency and magic he brought on to the sport. I will add his sportsmanship is also showing in many ways. I loved what Jason said after the competition.

The obsession about the quad is sad because I know several noted skaters whose bodies were ruined at the end because of that jump. I don't want to lose Jason as well.

I loved how similar it was to what many people say here on Goldenskate.

Terry Gannon is much more fair to Jason and really all the skaters.

FYI, the other male voice on NBC belongs to Terry Gannon.

And no biggie, but it was Tracy Wilson on NBC who quoted Kori. Andrea (Joyce, I assume you had in mind) was not part of today's NBC telecast.

Wow they really don't like Jason... I was watching and my husband (who doesn't really care about skating) didn't see the programme but heard the commentary - he though it was a different competition because he'd seen it before with ESP commentary and now the comments made it sound like he'd really messed up. And there were literally two mistakes. Smh.

Oops! I did think Andrea interviewed Jason afterwards. Thanks for the correction.

It is sad that about the most negative commentary from almost any country on Jason is from the US. I hope it doesn't get him down. #JasonWhyMe

So true. Compare to the Spanish commentary! I'm not asking them to pretend like they love it if they don't but at least have some respect and acknowledge the reality that he did well - actually as well as could have been expected.

Maybe that is why they are traveling to WTT today, makes it harder for Jason to watch.

The more I think about it, the more they were trying to "explain" why he was in fourth. Rather than the Eurosport, "it was wonderful but just not enough" they look at that he did have bobbles and took the "well it was not perfect so no medal" approach to convey why. It is weird that Johnny was so complimentary when he talked about his costume and choreography, but then did a 180 at the end.

The thing is though that he literally had two mistakes. They made it sound like he bombed.

I'm still really angry and sad. Ah well I've learned my lesson and I'll just avoid NBC from now on.Hopefully Jason does too.

What was the other error? The 3A was the only one I recall...the 3Z combo got -goe, but Im not sure if that's xonsidered an error...

That's the one I meant though (it wasn't bad but it was visible even to the lay viewer).

I suppose it has to be included in what Johnny meant when he said that technically he wasn't so good *eyeroll* Otherwise it just looks spiteful.
