So a back strain. So that sucks...but as far as injuries that isn't the most terrible one, right? At least it isn't like a laberal tear or something.

Sorry to hear that it is an injury but at least it sounds relatively minor as injuries go. I hope he will get the rest he needs and recover fully by Nationals!

Oh no oh no oh no oh no.

Please I hope it won't interfere with nationals training.

I literally feel my heart beating. Like ACTUALLY feel it. In my stomach.

Honestly this is one of those I am glad it happened now both, time of year and this season than later. This way they can deal with it for Nationals and Worlds, and have a chance to make any changes/modifications to his training needed to make this less likely to happen again.

As conservative as his team is, the fact that he is still training at all, is a really good sign I think. If docs are ok with some activity, it gives you some idea of the severity. Frankly it sounds like one of those injuries that many skaters would just grit their teeth through but Jason has more sense than that.

It sucks, but I am not that worried. He still medaled at his one SA, he is still the leader of the challenger series

which he could still end up winning.

He has plenty of time to train before nationals. If their long term plan included the GPF (it was a goal of his) then now with him out, he has training time available to make up for this, so he likely will not feel behind by Nationals.

I think this is a hiccup for him, nothing more. I also think it likely is good for him to learn how to deal with an injury now rather than in the fall of 2017.

I think though that Jason's team is being smart about it though. Some guys have suffered MUCH worse, IMO, training. The good news is he has two months left to recover and train.

That's true. Gives time to train for nationals. And his chances for the GPF were not extremely high (I'm a huge Jason uber, but I'm being honest as well) anyways.

I just don't like any of my faves having injuries. Makes me sad.

And you're right about that.

Still feel my heart beating in my stomach....at least I got to see him skate (For the 3rd time overall for any skating) at Skate America this year.

Back strain. Bummer, but thank you, Jason's team for letting us know, and for taking it seriously. Quads.:angry1:

I am bummed for his Japanese fans, who are so cute and give us so many great photos of Jason. I am sure he will tweet his regrets in Japanese at some point.:sad21:

I'm assuming that a back strain is better news than herniated disc, correct? I've known of many people who have had back problems, and I don't know of anyone who have fully recovered from a herniated disc. :(

Best wishes to Jason for a great recovery. I feel like this whole season has been one skater (Farris, Papadakis, Aaron/Settlage, etc.) having one unfortunate injury after another.

I am so sad to hear this. :(

But truly, if his back is injured, I think it's for the best. Even a minor back injury can be very painful, and it would be awful if it became chronic...what would happen to his beautiful spirals and gorgeous catch foot camel spin?

Also, while he had some chance of making the GPF it wasn't huge. He really would have needed a lights out performance at NHK, I think, and under the circumstances, that might have been difficult. I bet it was a really tough decision for him, but I'm glad they're being conservative.

So sorry to read about his injury. Selfishly my first thoughts were -- :curse: :gaah:

Jason and his team are being very smart and sensible in taking care of his injury. I'm glad he's taking the time he needs to recover and is not risking further injury by competing too soon. I wish him all the best and look forward to his performances at nationals.

Jason has tweeted a letter to his Japanese fans. It is a photo of the actual letter, so translation programs don't work.

Can any of our Jason-kun fans who read Japanese kindly translate? I would link, but that copy and paste is a skill I have yet to learn on mobile devices.:noshake:

Mrs P thanks for posting - not sure I've ever seen this. This program is still one of my favorites - Rohene's choreography is so perfect that it's spoiled me for others. Jason looks so young (and serious!) but his skating is so elegant and most of the jumps are really lovely.

I might have yelled a "NO!" at my phone when I got to that part of my twitter feed this morning. But I am glad it is not serious, and that they are making sure even that minor injury is looked after properly.

But can we please not quad-bash? We don't know for sure that he hurt it jumping. For all we know, maybe Rohene had him trying some crazy new spiral position or a crazy new spin position. I've always hated the emphasis on crazy catch-foot positions in the camel, and have always thought it would cause back injuries - though granted, I'd have picked Max to be the one to hurt himself on a catch-foot and not Jason.

And now I have the mental image of emo Joshua plucking out emo songs on his guitar and Jason listening and suggesting new less-emo lyrics while they're both injured.

That's a cute thought lol.

And that's true. I sometimes have gotten weird backaches from nowhere. Like 3 years ago, before district finals competition for my high school's cheer team, I had the worst backache of my life come out of nowhere. And it was bad enough that I was showing signs of pain in my face. Like it really hurt. But I was able to compete thanks to ice and adrenaline pumping through my body.

Though my situation is different.
