Jason Brown

Personally, I love peppy Jason routines, but if Jason is recovering from injury I'll take two dramatic routines, with Jason actually on the ice, over peppy any day.

I do love the colors themselves, although I can see where the costume is a little busy. Not to worry, it won't be the same by the end of next season, unless the gods take away Rohene's bedazzler;)

Not everyone is going to like Jason or his Rohene choreographed programs. I do and that's all that matters. :dev3: I kid, I kid.

I know the judges are handing out PCS like candy, even so they did give Jason's new SP a big thumbs up. He received the highest mark out of the nine men in choreography and tied Shoma for the highest mark in interpretation. He was second to Shoma in the remaining categories - skating skills, transitions and performance and was second overall in PCS.

Good news for this evening. I'm so looking forward to seeing The Piano again.

Jason Brown was looking really solid in practice. #TeamChallengeCup

Understood. Just that the tone looked like fighting to me.

I think sometimes it's hard to tell on an Internet board because you can't see people's faces or hear their voices. I'm assuming you were thinking about my post to balletandancefan? If so, I wasn't fighting. She doesn't post very often so I wasn't sure if she knew about Jason's injury. I personally like the choreography but I would never tell her or anyone they are wrong because they hold a different opinion.

Oh trust me honey, if you thought that was fighting, never go into the Australian skaters thread.

I do think it would be interesting to give Jason a change of scenery in regards to his choreography. I mean, surely, surely they're not going to have Rohene do his programs for the rest of his career, are they? As this continues Jason may find himself getting stuck in a "box", similar to the one Max has been shoved into by the judges, and that's not a good thing. There are times, too, that I feel like Rohene is vicariously living out his career through Jason, since Jason is a much more reliable competitor.

I love Jason and Rohene together, but I also wonder. I don't mind the vicarious living, but you make a good point about the box and the judge's perceptions. Could it go the other way: Rohene appears to be respected for his choreo and the judges want to see what he next gives Jason?:scratch2:

Besides, if I were an ice dancer, I would be beating a path to Monument to get me a real hip-hop program from Kori and Rohene, so maybe they can branch out....

Me too!

I must say I was wondering with all the score inflation in the past few months what kind of marks he would receive. I'm glad the judges appreciate him! Still, it's sobering to realize that with all the beauty he gave us last night, he still placed second in his group to someone whose primary strength is amazing jumps. I will enjoy his skating no matter what, but I know he wants to win (and I want him to have a good shot at making the Olympics) so I hope that he is able to master at least one quad.

Me, I'll be thrilled if I master a waltz jump. ;)

Jason's FS is on youtube:

Jason Brown FS The Piano

I've already watched it at least once or twice ...

Did Jason get the only standing ovation of the night? (The stream sputtered for me and I missed some performances.)

That was perfection.

Watched it three times in a row and every time at the 2nd Axel I thought "huh? He had a mistake? I completely forgot!". That's how good it was.

Mesmerising interpretation. Brilliant choreography. Fantastic skating. And finally the judges giving him the 9s that he deserves. What an end to the season!

It was...it was...

I fell into a trance watching it. Breathtakingly, wondrously beautiful. And with the simpler costume serving no distraction, I could pay more attention to the play of emotion across his face, that equal parts anguish and delight that so entranced me. That step sequence is long, so long, but when I'm watching it, I never want it to end. He is magnificent in every respect...oh, how I missed this.

I am really happy that Jason skated as well as he did this weekend. It gives a lot of promise to how well he will do next season if he stays healthy.

I wonder if Rohene is a package deal with Kori - but I can't believe she wouldn't allow any of her students to try someone else like Christopher Dean (only suggesting cause he is in the area) if they were interested in doing so.

Now, for what will be probably the most controversial thing I have posted on GS forums: I think it's time for Jason to get rid of the ponytail. Like starting cutting it really short and see what looks good for his face's shape as it grows out. If it doesn't work out, he can always grow the ponytail back.

I was thinking about this today, too. Not that he needs to get rid of it, but I was wondering what his hair would look like shorter and how much it would make his whole look different. I can take it or leave it - if he wants to keep it, fine, but I wouldn't mind seeing a new style next season. Especially as some horrible, evil person that I happen to be married to said that it resembles - and don't highlight the font here if you want to be able to unsee - a 70s merkin., because I can't and it ain't nice.

I notice that Jason's pony tail is considerably shorter than last year. Maybe he could go with a Charlie White longer, curly style but actually I don't mind his pony tail and see it as his signature look.

I think the time for Jason to get rid of the pony tail is when Jason is sick and tired of dealing with the pony tail and wants to chop it off frankly. As long as he likes it, he should keep it. But if it starts to bug him and he wants a change... then yes hack it off.

I half want him to skate to Sampson and Delilah the year he cuts it though... and really I am not sure it would take that long to grow it back to being pony tailable anyway if he hates it.

I don't thik Kori and Ro are a package... Mariah used Cindy Stewart last season for her SP. I think Ro knows what Jason can do and Jason knows that as well so it is just a good fit. And since Ro is in house... well he he is going to have an influence on the choreography anyway.

Here's a clearer version of his FS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fks8Yo2foFE

Gah, it's so beautiful. The best performance of The Piano so far.

I was really touched by how excited Gracie was for him at the end - running over the hug him when he walked into the KnC and then again right after his score came up. I can't say I'm a huge Gracie fan, but they seem to have a really sweet friendship, and I wonder how she would do with a summer in Monument with Kori and Jason.

The post FS press conference had some rather cute Gracie and Jason stuff too... if it ever shows up.

Jason was saying that in some ways this is to him his season start rather than the end of the prior season. Gracie jumped in to point out how impressive it is that this is Jason's new season/coming back from injury standard of skating - not peak. She ended her cute ramble with asking "what are you" Jason only response was a hug. I am hoping the clip pops up.

I was touched by that, too, and also by how sweet all the other team members were as well.

One of the videos doesn't have commentary, and you can quite clearly hear some of what they are saying. For example, Alexa says it was beautiful, Gabby Daleman tells Jason that it was "breathtaking". Nam says "that was awesome, bro!" () Somebody else says "that was a moment!". Meagan asks him what his current PB is and then says that "this is totally 177+". Madison Chock lookes really moved as well and says something like heart? art? when she hugs him. And it looks to me like Kristi is wiping her cheeks with a tissue. It was such a love fest, just like at WTT last year :luv17:

ETA @Stitch: that sounds so sweet! I've been checking for that footage all day. Wonder why they have the short programme pressers on IN but not this :(

That's awesome, and such a great snapshot of their personalities too. Nam and Meagan's responses are almost exactly what you'd predict they'd say :)
