Jason Brown

Seems like this 3 jump combo ranges between 12-15 pts. depending on the 2A or 3A and first or second half of the program. I know nothing about laying out a program, but it seems if he wants to do fewer quads, wouldn't it make sense to even use this in place of a quad. I'm so happy to see him back that the thought of him hurting himself makes me crazy. I desperately want to see him again at Skate America.

So at the GPF, Hanyu did 3A-1Lo-3S in the bonus and got 14.74 BV + 2.43 GOE = 17.17. By comparison, at the same comp, Javi got 17.51 for a 4S-3T and Patrick got 17.31 for a 4T-3T (both in first half, both including +2.71 GOE). Jason doesn't usually get such high GOE on his jumps, but he might be able to score 15+ points on this combo! Of course whether it makes sense to add it depends on what it replaces.

Arriba, as a fellow Chicagoan I share your hope that we'll see him at SA!

As to his back....Kori has always been very careful with him, so I'm betting she will be watching him like a hawk now to make sure he stays healthy. My personal theory about the back injury (purely speculative) is that placing 4th at Worlds finally made him realize he could be one of the top men in the world - if he got a quad. I'm sure the rise of Shoma, Boyang, and Nathan added pressure and changed the equation from "quad" to "quads." So he started pushing really, really hard to get a quad as quickly as possible and ended up injured. I'm hoping his forced six month absence from competition has taught him to take things more slowly - and honestly, I think the fact that he's on a 2 week vacation is a great sign.

Tavi, I feel better just reading your words. So maybe Jason will be working a little bit smarter and can hopefully stay injury free. Kori is really sharp, so he is in good hands. And maybe the skating Gods will be smiling at us and we'll get to see him in October...I'll always remember going to Highland Pk. right before the Sochi Olympics. The town had set up a flashing sign that would normally be used for construction, but on it were the words GO JASON! It was great. He's a national treasure! :luv17:  :hap10:

Arriba, what a nice story!

By the way, if you've listened to TSL's interview with Kori, you probably remember that they they asked her how Jason's experience skating last (and not so well) in Sochi helped him achieve that 4th place finish at worlds. Kori basically said that he is highly motivated to learn from his mistakes because he doesn't want to repeat them.

So I'm pretty sure he'll do everything he can to avoid reinjuring himself.

I wondered whether Jason's body was differently proportioned since his physio rehab, (it looked that way to me at TCC) and it is! I do have more hopes for his quad now :)

Based on the article I do think we will see at least a 4S attempt this season. Maybe 4CC as that did not work out too badly for his 4T attempt. They seem pretty confident the 4T will not be an issue it seems.

I could see Jason and co thinking that doing one 4T and one 4S in the free might be better for him to focus on than a 4T and a 4T in combo. That way he only really has to learn how to do each jump once. Heck, some might even say it looks better to have one of each quad even if it is not in combination. She was talking about the 4S and "two quads" a bit like she was before last season and the 4T, so I think we will see it.

I have to say, I will be said to see his 2As go away entirely. He has never had a negative GOE 2A in his career, and I almost want to see him keep tempting fate.

This has got to be one of my favorite Jason IG / tweets ever, but part of me is saying, be careful guy!

I saw that and thought *he's nuts* but a moving sidewalk must be easier to jump on than ice, when you think about it.

Hope we get to see pictures of his trip to Israel. I've never been but hope to go someday. I'm sure he'll have lots of great memories and nice to see he's proud of his heritage.

No:bang: No :bang: No :bang:

I am sure Jason will be the life of the party on his trip... and by the end I am sure a few will no understand his endless energy and just want to sleep. One good thing that came from his injury is that he knows knows he can take time off and come back... as he got his jumps back pretty quickly all things considered.

I also decided to take another look at my hypothetical scores for him from this post.

His newest interview he flat out says he wants to do two quads in the free... so I wanted to see what that means.

I had a possible FS score of 193.04. If he replaces his last 2A (which I am still sad to see go on some level) which he earned 4.13 for at TCC with a 4S worth 10.5... that is an increase of 6.37 or a total of 199.41.... which means he would only need +.59 GOE to hit the 200 mark. Or put another way (since i had only estimated .34 GOE for the other hypothetical FS quad)... he would need to average .465 on each quad in the free to hit the 200 mark.

Frankly I think less than 1 point total of quad GOE is likely realistic once he actually get them both... so yeah... i kinda think that if his two quad free plan comes to fruition... I think he can break 200 with it. Honestly i am not sure Kori will want to let him add the second one till he can average at least 1 GOE total on both... actually her standards if anything are likely higher.

Also... i did try to play around with adding in the new combo. A 3A+1Lo+3F is worth 8.5+0.5+5.3 = 14.3 or 3.4 more than the current 3 jump combo. But that is about as far as i got before it all got confusing. The problem is that he would have to replaces one of his other 3As (he can't do three) with a 3S which is a huge hit to value and the math just gets very far into "what if" land. Repeating the 3F over the 3Z should only be a .7 reduction only. But I would have to guess what other jumps would be in the second half and what kind of GOE he would get. I have no idea what GOE he would or could get on a 3S+2T for instance... or if that would be the layout. It was just kinda hard for me to get a feel for how I think that move would be added in. A part of me wonders if he is thinking of going for the 4T+3T after all and thus moving just one flip to the tail end... but again, we are going pretty deep down the rabbit hole at this point.

Maybe we will not get to see the beautiful combo... but I'd sure love to see some heads explode at a Jason getting a 200+ FS score. Really I think this could be enough for him to be officially bumped up to being one of the big three with Javi and Hanyu... and frankly I think Kori knows it full well and it is part of the plan.

NOW, JUST DON'T GET INJURED ON VACATION!

How about

4T-3T (or just 4T)
4S
3A

3A-1lo-3F
3F-2T (or 3F-3T)
3Lo
2A
3Z

Or something like that. Depending on what went into bonus he would probably have at least +10 points in BV. If I counted right that's 8 triples and 2 quads.

Ha ha, it's good for him to be ambitious but maybe we should let the poor guy land one fully rotated quad first! On the other hand it would be fun to know how much he could earn for something like this.....;)

Jason has been added to the cast of Mao Asada's THE ICE for the shows in Nagoya (August 5-7) and Kitakyushu (August 10-11)

Thanks to Rosewood at FSU, for the information:

I'm happy he'll have the opportunity to perform for his Japanese fans after having to miss NHK because of his injury.

Sounds exciting! Actually, many of our japanese fans wished he would get entry to THE ICE (he appeared on the show several years ago?)! Dream comes true!

Woot;:cheer: thx for the head's up. I expect to see lots of tweets from the Japanese fan club!

One of these days I will learn some Japanese; today is not that day.;)

Also THE ICE has a fantastic YouTube channel, which means HD videos of his performances.

Also in case anyone was wondering, these dates are after Glacier Falls (very, very end of July). This is why he is not doing the Osaka show (which is on the same weekend).

Well he is staying busy this summer it seems!

Broadmoor Open June 22 - 25, 2016
Sun Valley Ice Show Saturday, July 2, 2016 one weak after.
Glacial Falls July 28th – July 31st, 2016
The Ice August 5-11, 2016, again one week later.
Champs Camp August. 20 - 24, 2016 (not open to the public but we should get reports)

Lombardia Trophy September 8 - 11, 2016 - a month after Japan. But who knows what his assignments will be - hopefully he will be ready or knows his schedule. Still I hope he does not get worn out and injured again.

I wonder if the idea is to practice the quad with an audience as a way to build up competing it. I also wonder how long this has been in the works, as it could explain the two exhibition numbers he had at... I think it was Ice Chips.

Edit: It looks like it has been confirmed that he will compete at Glacial Falls... I swore the last we had heard on that was undecided. :slink:

Edit 2 to add Champs Camp.

You guys are really good at figuring that all out! :eeking: I'm just hoping his wonderful artistry doesn't suffer once the jumps start getting more complicated. What an exciting season this will be!
