Jason Brown

A skating santa dropped this in my inbox this morning - Jason's Canned Heat ex (plus a bunch of other videos from The ICE)!

Bless you, TMC!

Those Japanese announcers do talk, don't they? All good things about Jason, I presume! Why did I waste my time learning French when I could have been learning Japanese:laugh:

So Jason's other CS event will indeed be the U.S. International Classic according to USFSA. They write that "The U.S. International Classic will be the first in a series of 10 competitions that will make up the ISU Challenger Series" but that must be a mistake, surely?

Jason is now scheduled for the US Classic in SLC

As well as Adam....

The Piano meets the Son of Piano a month before Skate America:popcorn:

ETA: TMC and I were typing at the same time. Great minds and all that:biggrin:

The Piano meets the Son of the Piano has to be one of my favorite comments ever, right up there with the one about Adams shirts!

So he's doing Lombardia and US Classic back-to-back? Jason's done this before, so it's not unprecedented, but still a bit of a crazy schedule.

That is pretty nutty - 3 days between the end of Lombardia to the beginning of US Classic sounds like he'll have to fly directly to Utah and deal with jet lag. I wonder what the reasoning was?

No, it is not a mistake, but skaters don't skate all 10 events. It is like a lesser Grand Prix with no final but a winner based on how they did cumulatively counting I think up to two events. Jason was the winner last year actually.

As for the schedule. Utah is right next to Colorado, we are the same time zone, and only an hour earlier than Chicago. I don't think jet lag will be that much an issue or insurmountable. He would be coming back to Mountain time zone regardless, so if he flies straight to Utah... it is really not that big of a thing. And based on is time with Frank Carrol, he seems pretty comfortable training in other rinks.

I assume the reasoning is he wanted two events before SA to practice his quads (strange that we are saying that plural now about Jason) and get higher up on the world rankings.

But Lombardia is the first Challenger Series event, so how can U.S. International Classic also be the first? Unless they mean 'first' in some other way than chronological order...

Ohh God... i did not even catch that... sorry...

Edit: it was the first event in passed years... so someone just got lazy most likely.

Oh right, of course...I can so imagine doing the same..."ehh, just copy/paste, it's always the same anyways" :laugh2:

You beat me to it! I found it interesting that Jason was back to training the quad in harness by the time TCC rolled around. Also - he would like to do a samba or SALSA program, and I've been hoping for a salsa program for years. Oooh...I would so love to see a salsa short program for 2018!

I have also long wanted a salsa program! I hope we get to see it, especially now that he's starting to lose that childish look to his features...give it another year or two, and oh yes, I think he could pull off a convincing salsa.

Can definitely see Jason really "selling" a salsa program...Also loved his remarks about Kori and trusting her. Their relationship is really so special. Very interesting to read about how they proceeded with his PT/rehab after his injury. Thx for posting! :thank:

Slightly OT but is it my imagination or do very few people do salsa programs? I haven't been a skating fan for that long, so maybe there have been lots of them, but I don't recall anything recent. Jason is such a natural dancer - and the music is so upbeat- that I know a salsa program with him would be killer!

Back to the article: I was really surprised to hear that when he first moved to Colorado, he needed an inhaler for about a year, until he adjusted to the altitude. Has he ever mentioned it before? I'm guessing that could have been a factor in how long it took him to skate River Dance clean.

@Tavi, you have mentioned the salsa program before this interview, so of course I thought of you. Maybe Rohene should give you a call? You can do vocals;)

Very interesting about the inhaler, the dialing back of training, ( I remember in the USFSA interview Grant giving him the 'I wish' side-eye when Jason said he spent four hours max on the ice): our Jason is learning and maturing!

IN article features quotes from Jason and Kori Ade at Champs Camp: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/08/29/197784636

Here's one, which essentially confirms TSL's tweet from last week:

Kori Ade, who coaches Brown in Monument, Colorado, thinks the injury may help Brown in the long run.
"He got to sit back and gain perspective and say, 'I don't need to be Shoma [Uno], I don't need to be Yuzuru [Hanyu] -- I need to be me,'" she said. "He matured a lot during this injury."
The relaxed attitude seemed to work at Champs Camp.
"He did a gorgeous quad salchow today and a gorgeous quad toe," Ade said Sunday. "All of sudden there was a little buzz in World Arena, because we've been sort of under the radar."

It's as good a time as any to restate my opinion that Jason should do a short program to 60's folk music.

California Dreamin' would be original and cool. It has a laid back vibe, and would work with or without the vocals.

If necessary, he could combine it with Monday, Monday in a medley.

If the Mama's and the Papa's aren't his thing, then he could go with Peter, Paul, and Mary. If I Had a Hammer is upbeat.

Although I love salsa, I picture it more for an EX than for an SP or FS. Of course with Rohene doing the choreo, he would be able to come up with something, I'm sure! I would only hope that there wouldn't be too many shoulder shimmies. :palmf: :luv17:

Salsa as I know it (Puerto Rican) is a pretty specific style of dance and believe it or not, Rohene seems to be a stickler for authenticity (and he's half Puerto Rican), so I doubt we'd see shimmies. It's more about footwork than upper body, so I think it could work for a SP.
