Jason Brown

My Jason tank finally arrived! :yay:

It's not as stretchy as I thought it would be, and the fabric seems a little stiff, that might be because it was brand new straight out of the packet. Otherwise the colour is a perfectly bright lime green and the writing is nice and big. New training top :yay:

Well, crap! In Karen's latest IG Story (30 mins ago), she's pushing Jason around in a chair backstage and he said he sprained his ankle and is trying to save it and is hoping he can do the show. How awful if he couldn't skate in his hometown show! :bang:

I just saw that IG, and I thought, oh how cute, he’s in the wheelchair, and then when he said he sprained his ankle

:palmf::palmf::palmf:

And for Chicago.

Of course, Jason can put on a show on one leg, but :sad4: for Chicago audiences.

And according to a “half time report” from a poster in the Nathan fan fest, Jason did no jumps to Hamilton. I’m sure half the audience didn’t notice, especially from Jason:agree:

I also want full credit for traveling into foreign territory to bring you this report (and that is joking, joking, joking:) ) not because Nathan doesn’t deserve a full and robust fan thread, but because even when I was 14, I never found a figure skater “hot”. And now that ship has sailed:laugh:

OK, three posts in a row, an all time record....;)

Did someone from the Japanese fan club get info on next season's programs, or are they guessing? Any help from Japanese speakers?

Bing translate says:

"SOI ⭐️⛸ CHICAGO) pg for the next season, SP is a fun system that is upbeat and energetic, FS seems to be an emotional thing. Free is still like the future. I'm looking forward 😊 to M&G father and mother. I want to be able to spend the time when I am slow in my home after a long absence 😊❤️"

Thoughts???

My thoughts:

Bing and Google Translate will not replace human translators any time soon. TMC’s job is safe. :)

It sounds like someone chatted with him. Perhaps Rohene choreographed his FS in NJ last week.

My somewhat pessimistic thoughts:

If Jason has a sprained ankle why is he skating on it? I suppose it’s a fitting end to a problematic season but sprains don’t necessarily heal easily and if he tries to skate now, he could risk at least part of next season. It’s too bad about the Chicago show, but hasn’t he had enough experience with injuries in the past two years?

It sounds like he hasn’t figured out where he will train next season or he wouldn’t be talking about spending time with his parents during the off season.

The tour has a physio with them. That physio may have deemed it alright for Jason to skate on the ankle but not jump (the boot stiffness makes it ok to skate with a sprained ankle usually).

It's also possible that it was more of a tweak than anything and the lack of jumps was a precaution.

I hope so, anyway.

Seems logical he would stay in Chicago and spend time with his family since he’ll have to be in Grand Rapids just a few days later.

The injury doesn’t seem that serious — as far as a training setback kind. I think if it was that bad, they would have told him not to go out there.

That said He also didn’t skate in the guys number.

I have no doubt that the staying with Mom and Dad part refers to a rest after the Chicago SOI show. That I actually would expect, since Jason has presumably already done a tour of the "rinks de Chicagoland" and has no need to tour again:biggrin: So hopefully that ankle will heal....

And hopefully Arsenio's hypnotist worked:laugh2:

Saw the show yesterday. Was wondering why Jason did no jumps during Hamilton, and didn't do any jumps after intermission also. Speculated that he had suffered an injury, which was confirmed when he came out with Zach Donohue in the second half of the show, and announced that he had sprained his ankle the show before. Zach was following him around and filming him while he spoke, which was broadcast on the four screens at ice level in each corner of the arena. At one point of the show, he had his arm on the shoulder of Adam Rippon and skated off favoring his right ankle.

^^^And this sounds so "Jason-like" that he would never want to disappoint his fans by not skating at all. Kudos to him for coming out and doing whatever he could. I was out of town so was unable to go to the show, but I was very happy to learn that 7 friends of mine went and were very excited that they were going to see some of the skaters from the Olympics. I think I read somewhere that ticket sales were up 20%, which is always a good thing.

And for a completely different perspective; while looking at the SOI ticketing site the other day (hey, I *could* go to the West Coast:laugh:), I realized that they had user reviews. It was so nice to read reviews from "regular" people with very little snark and criticism (and most of that directed to security lines)

And of course, they love Jason. A sampling:

1. Jason Brown was phenomenal. He stole the show with the way he connected with the audience and you could tell he was just really enjoying himself!

2. [headline] Jason Brown Awesome!!!
All the skaters great. But Jason & Adam Rippon’s individual performances spectacular!

3. PPG Paints Arena is first class. The 2018 Stars on Ice program was spectacular. Enjoyed seeing the skaters in person with all their talent and enthusiasm. Jason Brown owned the show, he is a great performer.

And so on. It's good for some positive reading

So Phil Hersh did a review of Stars on Ice. I will not link to it. Jason was only mentioned in passing as having a bad ankle, and significantly, his name doesn’t even rate bold font.

I will quote Hersh's compliment  for Jason's professionalism -- and will give the link too:

Rippon and Mirai Nagasu had been squeezing in rehearsals for their successful Monday night debuts on Dancing With The Stars while skating with Stars on Ice as it traipses across the country in a six-week, 22-city run. Jason Brown was battling a bad ankle. Whatever pain or fatigue they or their colleagues felt was subsumed into the professionalism that drives performers who know each day’s crowd is almost certainly seeing them for the first time.

(Mirai's name was not in bold either. I do not consider it significant. YMMV.

Phil did not make any comment on Mirai's SOI performances.
No mention at all of Bradie Tennell -- who was in her/Phil's own backyard -- or of Karen Chen.)

I did click on it, but was very happy you had warned me. Although, given that it was PH, I would have guessed which skater was his favorite male singles skater with the longest, most gushing paragraphs. I skipped those paragraphs.

And since this is the Jason Brown Fan Fest, I know I can say without fear of contradiction or argument here, that I wish PH had devoted as much space to the other male singles skaters, and certainly as much space to Jason, as he did to his favorite subject.:noshake:
