Jason Brown

That's so true! Very good point! Do you think that's what Plushy meant by "he makes an interesting tricks elements" - and/or do you think he was referring to the complexity of Jason't programs?

Note to Others: It's google translate - it's often something of a puzzler figuring out what it all means exactly!:)

You weren't asking me...But I have a feeling that he means transitions. I'm not sure but could he be one of the top 3-5 senior men skaters in the world right now that do the most transitions? Javier is one of course, Hanyu...who else?

I've never understood why some people seem to only like one type of skating - and not only that, wishes that all skaters skated like it! I've never thought: I wish skater A was more like skater B! What's the fun in that?!

Exactly!

This should be another banner, pinned to the top of this forum

(I found another one in another thread that would also make a fine motto: "It's not always a conspiracy; sometimes it's just stupidity")

This is so much my feeling on it. I want to see them expect to land it, not just hope to. I don't really respect people for "trying" quads, I respect people for landing quads, preferably with positive GOE. Such a strange sport that some people would likely respect Jason more if he were falling on under rotated quads. . . . just a really weird feeling. I don't get the "he should at least try" mind set at all. You want to show me your attempts? By all means put them on youtube, ill happily watch you attempt stuff, go to competition with stuff you actually complete!

 to the whole post; I agree with the bolded line especially! And it made me laugh out loud

I agree. I wish I had a dollar for every time Michael Weiss on IN has said "I believe we need international competitors who have the quad" (or words to that effect). Similarly, Phil Hersh and Rafael A. speak ominously about the "message" sent by having Jason as a quadless national champion. Two skaters out of the 3 we're sending to 4C and Worlds "have the quad", at least some of the time. Should Jason have been dropped to 4th to avoid the shame of sending him abroad? And since when is Jason such an inadequate international competitor? The only proven quad jumper the US has is Max (and Jeremy, in US competitions), who Jason has outscored both domestically and abroad of late.

Finally, as you indicate, if the commentators and pundits claim someone "has the quad", that skater should be able to land a clean jump at least a majority of the time.

So much agreement.

The amount of comments and tweets complaining that "We're sending a skater who not only doesn't have a quad but only has one triple Axel" vs. "Adam should have won, he has the quad and his Axels are clean".

Seriously.

If you want to say that Jason "doesn't have a second 3A", then by default you must admit that Adam "doesn't have a quad", because Adam had one underrotated quad and one downgraded quad out of two attempts vs. Jason's one underrotated 3A out of three attempts. In this one competition. The only male member of Team USA who truly has the quad rotated is Josh, and I do hope that he will also land most of them from now on as well. He seems the most secure with it so I believe that he will.

Also, historically Adam has struggled with 3A at least as much as Jason so far. I'm so happy he overcame those problems in his Nats performance, but one good/bad performance is an exception not a rule (although I sincerely do believe that Adam is on an upwards journey, based on 2 of his performances this year).

Michael Weiss lost a lot of the respect I used to have for him for his comments on Ice Desk about Adam's quad. Poor Ryan Bradley: he had to try to explain to him how it is possible to get -GOE for an underrotation/downgrade without making poor Mike look too ignorant of some of the most basic rules of a sport he's been commentating for years :slink: :hopelessness:

It wasn't just that, it was the constant silly mistakes. "19-year old and these are only his 2nd US nationals..." No, it was 20 and at his fifth US Senior Nationals.

If there is a message to be sent, or if USFSA is in fact aiming to send any kind of message (very doubtful), it seems to be: "train - physically and mentally - until you're consistent!" as opposed to "cross your fingers and attempt jumps!". The last message is what brings us such memorable events as the Men's competition at Europeans just now. Personally, I enjoyed it so much I've watched the whole event at least ten times already! Not. :rolleye:

Adam took both of those messages to heart in his free skate, and there you have it: he won the free by a landslide.

(I do believe Mike is onto something with his concerns about UR/-GOE for quads. Jackie Wong put it quite nicely here)

Maybe we should create thread "US skaters and quads", because discussion is getting quite out of control from Jason topic to debate on US skaters and quads

That's a good one! :agree: Very snappy, too! :)

Hello everyone! I guess the situation around Russian fan-community should be a bit clarified. I’m the one who asked Sabinfire for sharing videos on the fan-page, and yes, it is the VK community you’ve been discussing on previous pages (I’m sorry for not having provided the link in PM, for some reason I thought that information wasn’t that important).

There are several hundreds of fans in the community, as you can see - but not everyone had an opportunity to attend the Rostelecom Cup. Though all of them love Jason and appreciate him. The fact that Sabinfire gave a permission to share videos means a lot for everyone.

Larisa Popova is the one who speaks fluent English. She did all the back-and-forth translation at the meet and greet.
It’s me. Actually, I didn’t do a translation at the fan meeting, it was done by Nadya Vasilyeva, who also organized the event, brought fans together etc. I do some written translations on VK page, when it’s needed, and update information.

This may seem like a huge stretch, but perhaps some Russian fans like Jason because he is similar to Plushenko in a way

Let me comment just from myself – no :) I guess that there are people among Russian fans who love different skaters (and not only Russian ones), but the fans love of Jason hasn’t ever – ever been due to Plushenko. We love Jason because he’s Jason :) Could there be another way, really?

P.S. My English is not perfect, I make mistakes, so I’m sorry if some things appear to be confusing.

Welcome Larisa/Cherika! Thanks so much for explaining the Russian web page/fan site for Jason; it is great to see that Jason can be appreciated everywhere for, as you say, being Jason. :cheer:

And your English is amazing, no need to apologize at all.

Thank you, El henry! :)

I should also add that the collages comparing Rohene's moves with Jason's (that are mentioned in this thread occasionally) are works of Elena-nak - she's also a fan of Jason's, and wrote several posts on this thread some time ago :)

Since we are talking about Jason's wonderful Russian fans, I figured I'd start talking about his Japanese fans. . . I can't decide if this is a thread jack or on topic, but anyway.

It looks like his JasonBrownJPFanClub twitter account has sent some tweets out about 4Cs and Jason and plushies.

Google Translate has lead me to reading one that says

"Four continents information 7 In the meaning described Interpark ticket site does not accept the letter and gifts to the players, but this meaning cannot keep the present Tournament officials imply that ban throw is not. Follow"

and a second

"Four continents information 7 Korea friend and I got confirmation on the Federation side. Control who is going throw a small plush Jason players. "

So. . . it looks like they have special concerns about Jason Brown plushies or plushies in general. If anyone can shed some light on what this is about I would love it.

In the end, I think it is awesome that Japanese fan club, of a USA skater, competing in the Republic of Korea is concerned about the amount of gifts but also the logistics. Really the figure skating community has a lot of positives about it.

Cherika - there is nothing wrong with your English! It's so gratifying to know that people outside of the US appreciate Jason and the good young man that he is. Same with the Japanese and the Koreans. Just as I/we appreciate and follow non-US skaters, it's nice to know others do that as well.

Dear / Cara / Kedves Larissa! Exactly! Spasiba! Thanks! Grazie mille! Köszönöm!

I am also impressed by the Japanese Fan Club twitter, or the administrator, or whoever keeps it on track. Remember the adorable "happy birthday Jason" tweets, with some very impressive, and cute, drawings?

Between that and the Russian fan club website, Bing translator gets quite the workout;)

Welcome, Cherika!

Thank you for the additional information about the collages. I've mentioned them more than once and admire Elena-nak's skill in putting them together. I also want to share my gratitude to you and your friends for videotaping the fan meeting and sharing it. :)

Thank you so much, Noskates! I agree with you - it's always wonderful to learn that such people/athletes as Jason are truly appreciated.

You may use this https://translate.yandex.ru/ for Russian-English translations. It provides more relevant results as a rule :)

Thank you, Katmari! Fan meeting videos were taken by different people - those who had an opportunity did their best :) Yet most of the fans from VK group are even unaware that the page is visited by people who are not on VK and even from other countries. They are astonished every time they find out ))

Just wanted to chime in and compliment you on your site as well, cherika! It's wonderful. I think I spent about four hours there the other day :cheer:

Thank you, TMC! In fact, I'm not the owner of the group and it wasn't me who created it :) I'm just one of the people who update information there. But once again, thank you! It's great to know that all the work is appreciated!

I used the Russian translator site provided by Cherika and it was great, but ...

evidently the transliteration of Kori (since I read ancient Greek, I can dope out the Cyrillic alphabet ... and that's about it!) translates to:shocked::laugh2: .... Measles!

не стоит благодарности :)

))) well, yeah... That's because the pronunciation of this noun is close in Russian... Well, in fact, absolutely similar ))
I never paid attention to this resemblance before though... The word is very rarely used.

не стоит благодарности :)

 :)

Welcome Cherika! And thanks for your thoughts!

I should clarify that I didn't assume that all Russian skating fans of Jason also liked Plusehnko, but I guess I was curious whether there were similarities in the two and that might have factored in SOME fans. In any case, it's great that Jason has such a strong fan base over there!

Someone just posted a bunch of super cute photos of Jason from a few years ago, since it's Thursday, let's throw back!
