Jason Brown

Jason's filed his first blog entry. It only covers the day of his departure through arrival at the hotel in Seoul--but if you thought you'd seen his superhuman energy level at full tilt, wait until you read this:http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2015/02/10/108855198/

Jason's photo gallery that is the accompaniment to his blog, in case anyone missed it:

Of the six photos included so far, #3 is my second favorite -- showing Jason stretching in the aisle of the plane. :)

(My favorite is the one that Jason tweeted of Josh and himself resting their heads on their luggage. Some of the photos in the IN gallery were previously tweeted, but some were not.)

Thx, Golden, had missed the photos. When Jason says stretches, he means something different than the average flier:biggrin:

probably not. Likely he would just make snarky comments about why he did not do one at nationals.

I really hope this turns out well for him. But more so I hope they are doing this for their own reasons.

You are right, Phil is now just straight reporting Kori's texts (to who? to him?)

"Kori Ade just texted about @jasonbskates and the quad: "I decided when he was assigned to 4cc & worlds he would begin to integrate it here".

Just skipping over the whole typo comment. :rolleye:

So she likely saw the same thing we did, that 4CCs is a good place to try stuff. And likely felt he needed a bit of a push. I will have my fingers crossed. I just really hope this does not backfire. I hope he is comfortable with it.

I remember you were speaking in favour of trying it out at 4CC.:)

Well, it's a pretty big scary jump - there is no way of becoming comfortable with it without trying it out. I don't think it will backfire - he may or may not land it - but 'tis the nature of the quad; and there will be extra scrutiny and pressure just because it is Jason doing it. But I'm sure Jason will be able to handle the pressure - and the first time will be the worst; after that there will be less fuss paid to the matter - and no mention of potential "typos" and such things when he goes for it the next time.

Here's hoping he lands it beautifully the first time out - go Jason! :)

Here's a short video clip of his practice that someone tweeted.

Quad landed; 2-footed but solidly on his feet.

He does go into the jumps sloooooowly

Really slow entries on both 4T & 3A!

The 4T actually looks better than I expected, but I'm not good at spotting under rotations. I also can't assess the 3A very well, but to my inexpert eyes it didn't look like the best one he's ever done.

Yup, I think he need to up speed to 4T, because he isn't the fastest in rotation in the air, so he must find way to do it, but he knows better how it works for him. Hopefully he will land it cleanly. But good that he is going to try it

Actually, everything on the clip looks really slow, doesn't it, even the skating in between the 4T and the axel set up. And goodness, you can really see how long he takes to set up for the axel!

But I'm totally rooting for him to do well, even if he doesn't medal - which is a long shot anyway. Juke really looked so great at Nats, and I hope he can integrate a decent quad without losing energy for the rest of the program.

I'm sure Kori knows better than Phil Hersh or anyone else what he's capable of right now.

Could the slowness be because there are so many other skaters on the ice? I don't see many training clips, so I honestly don't know - but I could see why one would be extra cautious, for fear of collisions. Corrections welcome of course - if I'm babbling through my hat! :)

I looked at it again and it's in time to the music so in actuality he's probably not skating everything more slowly. I think you hit on something as to him being careful though. What I initially took to be overall slowness now looks to me simply like a lack of performance-level energy. That could be because it's practice and there are other skaters or because he's focussing on technique and not performing or because he's still a bit jet-lagged. And I'm sure he will have a different level of energy in the actually competition, but whether it will help the jumps - who knows?! :)

The video quality is not great (i.e. the frames per second), it probably makes him look slower, honestly. And it didn't seem he was at full blast. Let's consider the fact that it's the second of two practices (they had one earlier in the practice rink). It felt more like he was marking the jumps/choreography -- though he actually did them.

It's not the worse quad attempt ever. It's REALLY hard to tell on the rotation cause the video quality isn't there. However, I was expecting worse.

Oh I'm totally impressed and was really expecting something a million times worse. Like step-out-hand-down-face-plant combo worse

Something like that.

Final group skates at 3:30 PST. Probably will get up, watch then go back to bed, HAHA.

Jason Brown (on attempting quad toe in short program): My quad is getting more consistent every day and it’s something we think is time to start integrating into the program. We feel this event is that perfect opportunity. We have six weeks before worlds to decide if we put it in at worlds based on how it goes at this event. I’ll take this event as a learning experience. I’ll try it and reevaluate after that. I haven’t integrated a new jump in about two years so to have this opportunity is really exciting.

From the Team USA blog that has quotes since arrival in Seoul from:
Cesario, Gold, Brown, Farris, Rippon, Frazier, Scimeca, O'Shea, Chock, Hawayek, Maia Shibutani, Alex Shibutani

So no Phill Hersh has an article specifically on Jason's quad. . . I got as far as the first sentence before I had to roll my eyes.

Thx for the article, Stitch. I myself have no problem with the first sentence. The realities are: that Jason's lack of a quad at Nats was criticized -- or at least highly scrutinized, at least by the media; and that most of us are surprised that Jason will debut his quad at Four Continents. No eye-rolling from me.
