But - no-one talked about rewarding Max for helping with three spots last year. Why is it only when it's Adam people are saying he should be rewarded? Max didn't any special treatment. He never does, ever. He doesn't even get support from his own federation.

It wasn't Jason that I thought should have skipped Four Continents.

I also think it's adorable that he actually can't see the crowd, along with having a ton of respect for being able to do what he does while clearly lacking in the eyesight department. I think I'd turn into a one-karne wrecking ball on the ice without my glasses.

@golden - I didn't realise/remember that he was first alternate to Worlds' and 4CC - that puts things in another light, of course, regarding how prepared he'd be to compete.

Ohhh, pls don't cry, karne ... like you, I was/am mindful that Max helped get the three spots for this year. Thought it was super-gracious for him to send a good-luck tweet to Team USA last week as things were getting started in Shanghai.

I know that the 2015 assignments are what are bugging you, but I think USFS did show support for Max after Boston Nats by assigning him to Worlds last year.

We should know soon enough which U.S. men will go to WTT this year. In any case, let's keep calm and .... ;)

I'm not sure how Max should've been rewarded last year, as there were no competitions after Worlds? (At least I don't think so? Correct me if I'm wrong.) I think it was generous of USFS to name him to the World team last year after not coming in the top two at Nationals, as they could've easily decided to send both Jeremy and Jason.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to WTT no matter who USFS decides to send! Jason's Tristan and Isolde grows on me every time I watch it and I'd like to see him perform it again in his new costume (and erase the memory of the mustard pants!) I love both of Adam's programs as well. In a perfect world I'd get one more of Josh's Schindler's List performances before he retires the program but I understand if they decide to make the easy choice of the top two.

I'm still not over the fact that Jason placed 4th at Worlds. That ought to show Phil Hersh...but of course all that man does is whine about the medal drought :rolleye:.

It is this very strange feeling. People who said he would not medal were right, but at the same time, fourth is pretty damn close! I find the medal drought complaints a bit hollow this year for men's two very young skaters were there for the first time, and one gambled at nationals and just decided to let it ride through worlds. I think they performed reasonably well. I think people forget it was Jason's first worlds. It's like they think he is Jeremy Abbot or something.

I am really looking forward to next year. Last year there was this question of how will Jason really do, will he be number one, or just the fan favorite. Now he is undeniably the USA's number one man. National Champion, highest in the Grand Prix, highest at Worlds, highest ranked in the world. Only once since Riverdance has a man from the USA beat him in competition, and that was at 4CCs where he tried the quad. I am looking forward to seeing how he grows and enjoys the ride.

Jewel Skaters is, pun intended, a gem. I've seen her vids from Korean comps and she seems too be a general supporter of Korean skaters and figure skating. Her fan cams are the best.

It's fun to hear the audience roar. They even roared at the spiral prior to his final jumping passes in the FS. :biggrin:

Interesting to hear the music was not off (or as off) in the SP. Wonder why it's so off in broadcast? The music sort of just fades to the end, so ir gives sort of the illusion it's off?
 
Video feeds from China just suck. I don't know what the problem is; but the audio and video end up out of synch all the time. Cup of China is always a mess.

Tons of people forgot that Max was a National Champion before he went on the GP, too. Sometimes when skaters take an "unorthodox" route, some of the other fans do forget. Being an Olympian before making a Worlds team is a bit unusual.

But yeah, give him a break, people. Give both of the young ones a break. :laugh: Fourth at his first Worlds. That is pretty bloody epic.

I'm looking forward to it, too. And I feel like this is only the beginning of the next phase of Joshua and Jason's friendly rivalry, now to be played out on the biggest stage of all...

Mind you, now I'm starting to dread the costume reveal, as usual... :laugh:
 
There's one thing I find confusing about Phil Hersh's catty comments about the US medal drought (both men and ladies). As far as I understand, US FS athletes get no government money at all. In Russia they get a stipend, here in Finland they get money from the national lottery fund. In the US they rely on their own wallets and occasionally sponsors. Yet I get the feeling from Phil's articles like the lack of medals is an embarrassment to the country and it's the skaters' fault. I don't understand: they don't receive taxpayers' money, they can't be said to owe anybody anything.

Actually, it is pretty epic for an American under IJS sadly. Evan and Johnny are the only skaters to crack the top 4 under IJS. Abbott has never been better than 5th in five trips. Getting the third highest showing ever for your country (under the current system), on your first trip to worlds is pretty bloody epic!

Time and again, he is showing everyone to not count him out. I'm very much looking forward to watching how things progress. I for one am hoping to see him get his first gold on the grand prix circuit and make the final.

How about we just let Max Aaron handle costumes for them, i think he has good taste.

I don't know why anyone would be critical of Jason for placing 4th? I don't keep track of these things - but how long was it since an US man placed as high or higher?

People just are so impatient - they just want quick fixes. Was there a medal? No? Then it was all worthless.

The article from the much-maligned :ohwell: Hersh readily :yes: provided the context that fourth at Worlds is the best U.S. men's placement since Lysacek won in 2009.

Do you realize how lucky we have Jason? I get pretty tired seeing athletes who don't finish first having the attitude that they are a nothing unless they are first. Jason has approached this with a great attitude and a reality check I can appreciate. Besides he is having fun through all of this. That is supposed to be the reason you participate in sports or other activities. I am looking forward to watching his journey.

Exactly! Jason is the epitome of how skaters should act after the receiving or scores! I myself was THRILLED he got 4th place! I honestly at first didn't think he would place that high. But he did and I think I started screaming slightly. Even at cheer competitions when we didn't win, I wouldn't mope and think that are team wasn't good. Though of course disappointment is a natural feeling, it's how you express it that makes it okay or whiny. Like if you say that you're a bit disappointed and move on, then that's fine. But if you keep moping about, you're not going to get anywhere. Though most of the time in my recreation competition cheer team, we won (Due to that either we competed against ourselves in our division (Level 2 Senior Rec (Levels describe the difficulty limit of tumbling and stunts you can do and tiny, mini, youth, junior, and senior are age groups)), if we competed against one other team, or we we were much better than the other 3 teams we competed against), I would still remember that I had a lot of fun competing. And I would try to look at the bright sides. Like one time, we got 2nd so we didn't receive jackets from winning out division (At US finals competition in the region closest to us. There were 6-8 US final locations based on region), we said, "Oh well, white stains easily." One time we got 5th out of 6 teams and though I was a BIT sad, I still had a LOT of fun competing.

So true. The Finnish commentators even mentioned that after his SP: "he's a pleasure to watch because you know that if he messes up (not that that was the case here today), it's not the end of the world. You never have to watch him on the edge of your seat".

I found that very interesting because they were clearly referring to his attitude to his own performance, not the viewer's pleasure/displeasure.

I also have to give props to Jason for doing an excellent job with his social media takeover. Someone else might've been too distracted by being the eyes and ears for the fans AND having to skate so well under pressure, but he managed to do both with ease. What was in those dumplings, anyway? LOL
