Jason Brown

I'm looking forward to hear what Kori has to say. I'm sure a lot of the talk will be about Jason's evolution but I'm excited to learn more straight from the source. Mariah Bell talked about working with Kori in her TSL interview and of course had such positive things to say about her.

TSL has done some great interviews lately, a nice way to pass the time during the off season.

They have one with Shannon Miller coming up too which should be great. I like that they are branching out a bit. I also find it interesting that we are seeing more interviews not that long after so many on here were saying they like the interviews more than the banter - maybe they are listening and if so good for them.

I am looking forward to hearing from Kori. I suspect it will not be as Jason heavy as we may expect or would have been some time ago, they seem to be steering away from angle. The Mariah interview had very little about Jason. Something like "What is it like training with the national champion? - do you think it has an impact on how you are perceived?" would have been appropriate but they seemed to want to keep the focus on Mariah. So I think we might get a lot about Kori which is great as there is so little. I know she worked with some Australian skater back during the 2002 Olympics but that is about it for her back ground beyond hip hop. I think Kori likely has her own interesting story to tell and they will be happy to pull it out.

I really enjoy the extend interview formats they do. So often you just get a few clips and soundbites, i really like getting to hear a conversation.

Forgive me, but what does TSL stand for? I am sure we are relieved that Shannon Miller won her fight with ovarian cancer.

The Skating Lesson it is a website run by a former US ladies skater (Jenny Kirk) that basically does interviews and commentary about skating.

I think it's much because it's the off season, so there's not as much to talk about. But another change they've made is of having a guest doing their recaps of competitions with them - I did watch one or two of those, and I thought (at least in the ones I watched), it was a good change, and it cut down on the gossipy aspect of it. Of course, the reason for the change may not necessarily be because of criticism, but because they wanted to change things up a bit. Regardless of the reason, I liked it. (Since I've criticised them before, it's only fair I say something nice when I see something I do like. ;) )

They did not do really any interviews last off season. Looking around it looks like they had a gap of Robin Cousins on February 5, 2014 and the next interview they got was Todd Eldredge on November 12, 2014, so that looks like a change to me. But they are a great way to fill the summer.

It also could be that Jenny wants to share some burdens before she starts law school. If there is more of a patter of new voices, it would not be as odd if she skips some episodes. I think the extra person is a good edition as well though. It gives more opinions and exposure. Plus it is fun to get to know these people in new ways.

Another interesting thing is they seem to get the nice people of the sport on their show. A lot of their interviews end up with "they are so nice" comments on the guest. I kinda hope that if so many nice people are going on the show, it means they actually are nice.

Well, I'm not that quick to make character judgements anyway - even if there is something I don't like, it doesn't mean that I'll immediately leap to the conclusion that they are Evil, Nasty People. After all, I don't know them.

ICYMI, re TSL in general and Kori's interview in particular:

‏@SkatingLesson
... the interview took place this AM. We are working on a new website & will post it once our new site is released.
5:09 PM - 19 May 2015

So presumably changes are afoot at TSL -- not surprising, esp. b/c Jenny was accepted to law school [ETA: oops, sorry, I did not know that she had deferred her matriculation].
And sounds as if the Kori interview will published later rather than sooner ;).

Veering into OT land but

Didn’t Jenny say she was deferring her acceptance to UCLA law until next year? I think she and Dave want to concentrate on building TSL into more of a brand and looking for more sponsors/partnerships and growing their audience.

I am glad they are redesigning their site – right now it’s not the easiest to navigate.

Sorry, I had not known that Jenny deferred law school. Just remember how excited she was on the day that she was admitted to UCLA.
Thx for bringing me up to speed :).
I've edited my post above.

ETA, re the Kori interview:

The TSL blurb does not mention Jason by name, so I think/hope the interview will go well beyond Kori's important work with him.
... discussed her success, her smiling students, induced labor, costumes and the birth of a thriving program out of a tumultuous move to Colorado.
They covered also Kori's own skating bkgd and whom she trained with.

Yes she is. I think they have said they have a plan, and I think getting it running smoothly first is great.

I'm not sure where and how much Jenny has discussed her plans to defer - the only reason I knew was because I asked her on Twitter and she actually replied! I think it's a great decision on her part. Law school is very tough in the first year and she seems like someone who wants to do really well - so I think it would be hard for her to do both. And I think TSL can do well if they work at it. They're getting some great guests now. Gosh I hope they interview Rohene!

I actually am really excited to find out more about Kori herself. I know she was originally planning to attend med school and that she has some background in skating but very little else. Oh and I think her parents are artists.

I am also interested in hearing about the growth of 7K. When she moved out there I think she had Jason and maybe Jordan. And the World Arena snubbed her. Now she has a huge program! But based on the remarks about her induced labor and always smiling students I'm sure we'll hear something about Jason. Dave has been so critical this year about the quad and the under rotations and the costumes that I will be very very surprised if he doesn't bring those issues up. ;)

I'm also quite curious about why Jason's costume was finally changed, so I hope they ask! Did they hear the criticism or did something else motivate it?

Poor Jason had his wisdom teeth out - hope he's got plenty of ice cream handy!

I got my bottom wisdom teeth out 10 days before I turned 14. I remember I ate lots of ice cream and soft foods after it. Honestly the chipmunk cheeks from swelling is not that bad. It's just a visual thing. What's bad is that you can't open your mouth all the way so it's hard to get food into your mouth. And the first day I had to keep gauze in my mouth for 24 hours and I was so numb from Novocain. I remember I honestly wished I rather have felt pain than being numb.

I never got the "chipmunk cheeks", predominantly because I slept with an ice-pack on my face for the first day and a half. I had three out (only had three) and for me the worst part was the recovery from the anesthesia. I have never felt so not-in-control of my body in my life. I couldn't walk straight, I couldn't articulate any thoughts, I couldn't string three words together, and I couldn't even take a sip of water (couldn't feel my lips). To me, that was utterly TERRIFYING.

Having to do tiny cat-licks of ice-cream or baby food off a spoon for three days until I could actually open my mouth wide enough to get the spoon in was nothing in comparison.

I bet Jason and Mariah are being nicely coddled and I hope they have all their favourite flavours of ice-cream, yoghurt, mashed potato, and so on handy.

Foe me, the worst part was not being able to feel my mouth. I actually cried cause I hated being numb. I literally would rather have been in pain because at least I would be able to feel SOMETHING! Luckily it went away after a few hours.

Took me 10 days to be able to eat hamburger meat again and coincidentally, the 10 days later was my 14th birthday, so perfect timing. Literally during the recovery period when I tried to eat ravioli, I had to maneuver the fork in my mouth in a way that I would be able to eat it. I ate tons of ice cream.

So, something is going on with Jason's Japanese fan club.

As best i can tell, Jason was in a preview from some show that I think is going to air on Monday - I think it is about "why did you come to Japan?" or maybe a what is Japan to you type thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU5Xymf66tI
he is the second clip.

Kori looks to have said something about them being caught by a TV crew at baggage handling.

I think something might be airing on Monday that might have a Jason clip.

I am very happy to potentially have a Japanese show clip of Jason!

EDIT: Because I am bored here is a gif of his clip.
