Jason Brown

I don't really have a good frame of reference (since I haven't seen any of his national/international performances in person) and because I see him skate so often such changes I see are so gradual they're hardly noticeable at all...so aromaticchicken's probably knows better than I do.

I do know that he's been pushing pretty hard in terms of his fitness and training both on and off ice (someone somewhere mentioned that he looked like he's put on weight when they saw him in his SP...but to the contrary I think he actually may have lost some--that was just the ill fitting costume...which they are cognizant of and I'm sure will adjust)...and so his body is actually extra tired this time of year. Kori actually had them back off some of his strength training because she was worried his muscles were getting too tired to execute/train the quad...he was just so incredibly tired by the time he hit the ice some days. As the season progresses they will cut down the intensity of training (particularly strength training) so his body is better rested and able to perform at it's peak...it's all about periodization so the skater peaks at the right time.

IMO if a skater is performing perfectly at this time of year they just simply aren't pushing, challenging, and growing themselves enough. It *should* be hard...if it isn't there's a problem.

ETA: I'm not sure if there are plans to stitch the sash of the LP costume down in some way...but Jason also just tends to fidget and fiddle with things when he's worried or nervous (someone said he was fiddling with the sash before his LP).

@polenka84, thanks for your insight, as always. Not surprising that Jason the perfectionist is so driven to get that quad under his belt that he's pushing a little too hard, and good to know that Kori has been wise enough to scale things back.

Looks like he's found a great antidote to all that quad induced stress, though - and this clip really made me laugh a lot! The little girl's expression when she finally hits the first position is priceless, and as to Jason - well, watching him bounce up and down like that you can totally see what he was like at her age, and imagine him as the little boy who used to lie down and pound the ice when he got frustrated: ;)

a little thought about Jason's FS costume. This programs has tons of moment to showcase Jason's lines and balletic poses. I would suggest a simple costume that show all those wonderful qualities (John Curry). Do not like too much frills and stuff.

I don't remember where but I've seen a few comments on SoMe implying that Jason has been having problems with his blades? Does anyone know anything about this? I mean that would partly explain why he's been having such problems with his money jumps in competition...

What is SoMe?

I haven't heard anything about blade problems but then Jason has been pretty quiet this summer. It looked to me like his problems came from integrating the quad into both programs, but that's just my assumption.

That's probably it for the most part anyway. It's just that of the list of the jumps he has & how often he lands them and how well, the flip is by far and away his number one jump. And now he's fallen on the flip more than once, iirc. Normally that is the one jump that doesn't suffer no matter what the circumstances, ie. 4CC. CoR, etc.

ETA: It has also crossed my mind that his flip timing might be a bit off under competition stress because - please please I want this to be the reason - he's been trying out the 4F... :p

Just my two cents: Love Jason, but hate this nail art . Nothing wrong with fancy nail art in general, but what's shown in this pic gives me the creeps. YMMV .

When I get nail art, I ask the people if they can draw designs on it. Usually winter theme. Like then I went to skate America I wanted to get a snowy scene painted on my nails and this is what it looked like

Has everyone seen the Skating Lesson's Instagram from 7k? My favorite, Jason in the edge class:

But also, feeling much more kindly to Dave and Jenny with their new mood measurement: How excited are you on a scale of one to Jason Brown?

Exciting to see how much power and flow he's getting from those edges - he basically went the entire length of the rink in three strokes. Amazing.

I love the flow he had coming out of the 3A as well. I keep going back to the edge class video. He just makes it look so smooth and easy.

Dave & Jenny's transportation problem has been solved. But really, if you must be stuck some place for a few hours there are far worse things than spending time at Chili's with the always fabulous Rohene Ward.
