Jason Brown

With JGP starting up again this week, though I'd leave Jason's SP and FS from his first JGP of the 2011-2012 season in Brisbane, Australia four years ago. Enjoy!

ETA: Here's his SP and FS from his first JGP ever in Courchavel, France back in 2010. He's come a long way in the last five years

I really like his 2011-2012 SP both the program and the costume. I think think they should go in this direction for his current long program.

Was it you, Karne, who once commented that Jason shouldn't wear short-sleeved shirts because his arms were so skinny?

;)

So it was. I believe the context, however, was during Jason's particularly scrawny-armed phase, and he was standing next to Max, who was in a customary tight t-shirt...

Clearly, Jason has been lifting weights! I suppose he is luckier than Max in that he does not seem to bulk up as easily, therefore his lines are not worrisome. ;)

While Jason's arms are lovely...

Jason (along with Mariah) have been assigned to Nepela

Also - the cute pic of Jason in cooking class did not get posted.

But fair warning if you have issues with kitchen knife skills...well this pic cause my better half to recoil in horror when he saw where Jason's left thumb was. He frequently cringes while watching cooking shows though - seen too many kitchen injuries. I am kinda hoping he was just posing like that and not chopping with his thumb there - we don't need Jason getting injured cooking at champs camp... Good chief knives are like vampires... They want you blood, don't make it easier to give it to them.

I just am not sure what to make of this... but Jason is to the right of the accordion player...

Evan Bates was really into it. What was ex pair skater Mark Ladwig doing at Champs camp? He took the picture.

Maybe he just snuck in to see the mime class... i mean when else are you going to see something like that! More likely he is just there in some form of a volunteer capacity helping out. He sent out a few other pics yesterday...including some very cute doodling from a young Mirai.

The first time i watched i did not even recognize Evan... I thought he was the mime teacher.

I actually don't think mime is that bad of an idea to learn... it is just a new way of moving and expressing ideas with movement...it may not be popular, but I think it could have some useful lessons for skaters actually.

I believe that he, like Raj, works for that Canadian blade company that supplies a lot of top skaters. At least one of them seems to be at every competition (and I guess Champs Camp too) to do emergency blade repairs or replacements for their customers (and to rep their brand!).

So I just remembered that Jason's Sun Valley show is this Saturday. Does anyone know anyone going we can turn to for gossip?

I would love a report.

He (and Raj) work for Jackson-Ultima, which makes Jackson skates and Ultima blades. If I recall Jason and Adam (as well as many others) wear Jackson skates. I met Raj at Skate America last year & I think he told me Jason wears their dance boot. When I asked how Jason could possibly jump in them he said it's because he has strong ankles & great technique.

That mime thing cracks me up, especially Evan & Jason.

Just my two cents re Ladwig, but I think the more likely explanation is that he has remained active in US Figure Skating stuff after retiring from competition.
(He has been a leader of the USFS Icemen program, for example, which provides mentoring, motivation, etc., to boys in the sport.)

I know he also is a Jackson rep, but I'm not so sure that USFS would allow any and every other vendor under the sun (even if present at Champs Camp) to observe the team-building exercise, and to shoot photos and video thereof.
It's not as if the skaters would have needed any assistance with their boots/blades in order to participate in the mime competition.

Just my two cents.

I am pretty sure I have seen Jason tied to Jackson a few times.

we did get confirmation last year - which is a good excuse to repost a cute pic.

Didn't Jason skate in hinged boots for awhile as well?

Yes years ago. I think they were also Jackson's. I think they stopped making them years ago.

Jason is now in Elite low cut:

ETA: what do we think of Jason's senior B? With a few exceptions like Pitkeev, Mura (who will be at Skate Am) and possibly the TBD Canada spot, it looks like it may not be super competitive, so IMO it could be a good place for him to try out the quad and new programs without (hopefully) finishing last. It should help him decide whether or not to include the quads at SA. Ooh can't wait!
