Jason Brown

Yes years ago. I think they were also Jackson's. I think they stopped making them years ago.

Jason is now in Elite low cut:

ETA: what do we think of Jason's senior B? With a few exceptions like Pitkeev, Mura (who will be at Skate Am) and possibly the TBD Canada spot, it looks like it may not be super competitive, so IMO it could be a good place for him to try out the quad and new programs without (hopefully) finishing last. It should help him decide whether or not to include the quads at SA. Ooh can't wait!

Me neither!!

The field seems pretty thin, the only challenger really is Mura. So a good place to try stuff out.

Although I was hoping they'd (J&M) come to Finlandia Trophy, the field will likely be more stacked there (not that that's a bad thing per se). But they should definitely come here next year; it would be a great opportunity to be seen live early in the season, get a fanbase going, and come to Worlds as crowd favourites :)

I read up on the skate boots last night - no wonder his toe point is "on point" since he's using dance boots!

Aww. These two seem like such great friends. They always just seem so happy to be around each other.

Jason is a happy person and so is Mariah, so the two of them together = one big happy, LOL.

I didn't think you could jump at all well in dance boots

That's why I asked about it - as a beginning adult skater myself I had heard that elite skaters doing triple jumps+ needed very stiff boots to support their ankles. That said, according to the Jackson website the boots he's in currently are not specifically for dance although ice dancers (eg Papadakis and Cizeron) use them. I'm not sure whether Jackson is just redoing their product lines or what. But Jason is the only male singles skater listed as wearing these boots.

They could not possibly be actual Dance boots. Dance boots would simply not be strong enough. As I understand it, the Elite low-cut is as strong as the actual Elite (*is suddenly unnerved by the fact that Jason wears the same strength boots as karne*), it just has a lower dip at the back of the ankle, to allow for the toe-point.

I wonder...I wonder if they've ever considered putting him in a higher boot...that giving his ankles so much freedom might be part of his problem with jumping...but no, it can't be, his problem is rotation, not landing. *muses*

I had the same thought to be honest. When everyone is trying something different, you have to wonder, if maybe it is worth trying. Maybe he is having to work harder to get the jumps rotated and the different boot would relive some of that. If nothing else I think it would be really interesting to hear him talk about the differences and give his opinion on the more "normal" boot. Though my guess is there is more than just toe point in the decision to use these boots.

In the end...it is Jason. While some may march to the beat of a different drummer, Jason prances to the rhythms of a different didgeridoo. This is part of why we love him.

Well, Jason wore Elite Dance at the Olympics:

The Elite low cut is a new product. I'm wondering if they developed it in part because of him:

EDITED to remove link because it's wonky. If you go to their website and click on What's New you'll find it there.

I'm sure he wears dance boots because he's found that they work for him :) I wonder if any other elite male singles or pair skaters wear them?

I agree.

If you look at the link in my post 4441 you will see a list of competitive skaters and what model they're wearing. It looks like he's the only non-dancer in them. There may be other skaters in dance boots from a different brand though.

Now can we talk about his senior B? Pretty please? I wonder if we will see the quad in both programs? And how much progress he will have made since Glacier Falls? ;)

I agree with you that Takahito Mura will be his biggest threat at Nepala. (That's a rivalry to pay attention to this season -- They are tied at 2727 in World Standings and will be competing against each other at 3 events (Ondrej Nepala, Skate America, NHK.) Although not updated on the ISU roster yet, the Skate Canada assignment page lists Keegan Messing as competing at Nepala as well.

I think it's a good event to incorporate the quad. I'd like to see it added to the free skate first where it would do less damage if not fully rotated, but I suspect he will be doing in both SP and FS.

Nothing really new here but Jason's Japanese fan club interviewed his parents and posted the responses on facebook

I can just imagine him running to get the front seat ahead of his sister and then laughing at her expression.

Here's a highlight video of the Skate 7K Summer Sizzler:

I love this photo from that event:

Jordan Moeller and Christina Cleveland are on the left and then it's like Jason has a magnet drawing all the children to him.

Oh thank you for posting all of these. I've only read the interview so far and loved it! How funny that his mom made chocolate chip pancakes every day.

I will think of more senior b talk later but I have to run out now. ;)

Choc-chip pancakes every morning! No wonder he's so bouncy all the time - he's got a permanent sugar high!

I was surprised that Jason got Ondrej Nepala and not Nebelhorn, but I guess when Max said he wanted an international B they decided to shuffle things around a bit.

I have seen only speculation/theorizing about what Max said he did or did not want.
We do not have any actual knowledge along those lines, do we? :confused2:

In any case, if Jason had wanted Nebelhorn, I would like to believe that USFS would have given him first dibs over any other man.
Although I love Max, giving precedence to the wishes of the reigning national champ would be only fair, IMO.

Jason's love for hot-dog casserole :hopelessness: was most definitely new to me .

Very enjoyable interview. Thanks for sharing.

Like everyone else, I see Jason's "real" competition at Ondrej Nepala to be Mura. I'm hoping competition with Japanese skaters continues to bring out the best in Jason. But I also agree that the Senior B is a great place to keep trying to incorporate the quad in competition.

As to the choice/ assignment of Jason to Nepala, perhaps USFS also considered Mariah's assignment? (Although again, the champ you would think would get first say). It is clear I think that the two GPF skaters on Team KoRo would get the same assignment.;)

If his primary goal this year is to solidify the quad, then I think Nepela made the most sense. It's not as high profile as Nebelhorn and he doesn't have to worry about defending his title.

Mura is an interesting case. His performance in Canada last year suggests he's the opposite of Jason - he peaks early. So the question is will he peak here and at Skate America or will he try to peak later so he doesn't bomb at worlds again?

In many ways this seems like a dress rehearsal for Skate America. Quite a few of the competitors in all fields are the same. My sense is that they picked this for Mariah for the same reason they picked it for Jason and for the same reason Julia chose it - it's a little bit under the radar, so it's a good place to test things out.

Can't wait to see the two programs again.

I loved that 7k video - whoever put it together is a genius!
