Jason Brown

I like Jason's writing style - you can almost hear his voice when you read his blog entry. What a smart idea to skate during the layover rather than sitting around O'Hare for six hours. Only pain is I wonder if they needed to go thru security again when coming back to the airport?

I hope he got a good night's sleep after all that.

For anyone following USFS on snapchat, Jason's story continues with a brief post-practice clip.

I can almost hear him speak too and I'm grinning so huge right now!

Jason has the gift to make people smile by him just being him.

Who else is super excited for tomorrow? :cheer:

Me! Me!

His programs have so much potential. I'm looking forward to seeing how much he's improved from Glacier Falls. Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch the SP live since I'll be at work. :scowl:

Good luck Jason, Mariah and Alex! :cheer2:

Here's a nice photo of Jason, Mariah and Alex posted by 7K on instagram:

I'm surprised Jason didn't attempt the quad, and unfortunately he muffed the 3A that replaced it. He's currently in second but about 7 points behind Kolyada.

There was a lot of little tweaks to the program. I think he is just still trying to get the choreography in his head and don't want him to be distracted by new jumps. It really felt more like a work in progress still, but was a massive improvement from Glacial Falls.

Really the way he skated today I am not sure a quad would have been wise... he seemed a bit off.

That program is really demanding. I felt Jason was still laboring through it. A quad would have made things worse. I think he just needed to skate a cleanish program -- he seem OK with a 76 despite the fact it's like 10 points off his PB.

This was my feeling pretty much. It looks like they added an entire normal skater's program's worth of accents and choreography just since Glacial. It has potential to be awesome, but he seems to be still working to learn it. I think he knows what he did out there and is realistic...the skate was not perfect. A quad would not have been a good idea in that skate.

Not Jason's best, and I don't know what they're doing with all the additions, but still ... Jason sells it like the rent is due. That's our boy.:cheer:

And can I just say in this "safe space", if I hear one more comment that Jason's routines are "shtick", that he can't skate with the "big boys", or that Nathan Chen is going to win Nationals, Worlds and King of the Universe, I will throw things at my computer screen. With gusto and swear words!:drama:

I just burst out laughing enough to wake my hubby up :laugh2:

But yes, I agree with you, it is infuriating

I still think that Nathan has a very good chance

Mrs P you're right - the program is incredibly demanding, they've added a ton of stuff, and it's a major improvement over the last time we saw it. He looks great in the new costume, too. The one thing I really really don't like is that "I'm so cute" moment.

ETA I won't go so far as to call it shtick, but for me it does take away from the great stuff.

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I found myself thinking, why don't they think up at least a different starting position? Then we wouldn't be already thinking we've seen this before.

But I love the costume. And I love Jason's skating, as always. I'm thinking of Rohene's comment in May or June that he's adding so much difficult stuff ... and I'm wondering if it's time to call a halt to that in favor of having the energy and stamina to put that beautiful quad toe in instead. But I imagine they know what they're doing.

I'm impatient to get a look at the protocols. Jason's the only man who broke 40 for components.

I'm with you all the way on that!!

Immediate reaction: THANK THE COSTUME GODS I ACTUALLY LIKE THIS ONE IT FITS HIM AND EVERYTHING

Really enjoyed the heck out of that. This is the kind of program where I find myself not really all that bothered by what his jumps do or don't do. And as always, as our dear el henry puts it, he sells it like crazy. This is so far away from being as bad as Juke that it's on Mars.

Only one thing, for me - after he does the little Finnstep hoppy-bouncy moment, they really need to take out that illusion, or else get it so he hits it every time. That was jarringly awkward.

You know, I just finished reading a book about John Curry. And the number one adjective used to describe some of his programs was "vamp" or "vamping". And that's what Jason does. He's vamping for the crowd. It's no different to the King blowing kisses, to Max drawing his sword, to Joshua reaching out to give him love, to Hanyu doing that side lunge. It's just in Jason's style, that's all.

But I agree with you. I am sick to bloody death of hearing Chen's name. I am sick to bloody death of the assumption that every other US man is now worthless because Chen's been injury free for two seconds. And I am sick to bloody death of the people confidently proclaiming that he will be at Worlds next year. I am going to Worlds to watch Seniors, not Juniors!

Here is a link to the protocols:

http://www.kraso.sk/wp-content/uploads/sutaze/2015_2016/20151001_ont/CSSVK2016_Men_SP_Scores.pdf

His 3A was < , his footwork was level 3, and he got an edge call on the 3Z.

You know, Chen got a new PB last night too. 77 something. With the same jump layout. Except his was clean, and he got all level 4s and 3s. No URs, no edge calls. Maybe the Chen-crowners should think about that, that Chen at almost-perfect is only one and a half points ahead of Jason nowhere near his best. By international judges. No home-scoring here.
