Jason Brown

Yeah, I will say that I was mystified that Jason wasn't at least given the "alternate" spot as recognition. I'm wondering if something behind the scenes is going on politically (like with Kori Ade?) But today has been one of the weirdest days in U.S. Men's figure skating ever.

Yeah I don't know. But there has been a huge amount of social media outrage - if the USFSA doesnt send Nathan it's like they are completely dumb and backward. Even Michael Weiss and Charlie White tweeted about Nathan, and certainly journalists have been saying quad quad quad.

It's sad for Jason he got ill at the wrong time but he's going to have to get that quad down. They won't be giving him any gifts.

ETA sick of auto correct!

Jason gets to go to the Challenge Cup which is a new fun event... And more importantly up to 10k cash...for himself! I don't feel too sorry for him.

Yes, I'm looking forward to this!

ETA - Oh, and people will be able to lay off Jason for a while. Trust me, people. what we've seen so far has been benign - I kid you not! If the petition had gone through, then things would have got really ugly...

Brace yourselves, guys, because the argument might not be over.

Though I hope it is. Poor Nathan.

What? Why? I was just taking solace - see my previous post edit - that things had now blown over.

I guess Nathan has some hip issue. But we don't know how serious it is. It's still over cause they will just have Grant go instead. But again we don't know how severe it is.

Oh... dear.... Poor Nathan indeed. I hope whatever it is will be quickly curable.

Hopefully, it's not too serious and Nathan just needs to rest a bit.

I really don't want to add anyone to my #TeamInfirmary for this season. I want skaters to get this team and come back better than ever. I hate hearing news of illness or injury.

That was briefly mentioned during the nationals coverage. Nathan was well enough to compete at nationals. Regardless, more time to heal for next season will be good for Jason. It will be funny if we see him at sectionals and regionals.

Jason will probably get two GP assignments, so he will likely not have to do sectionals and regionals. But if he has to do either, I will have to figure out how to make it to Upper Great Lakes or Mids.

I think it's better for him to not be an alternate. He doesn't need to train hard for worlds and not be able to compete. He can prepare for next season and the competition will be tough.

I agree. That is my thought when I referred to "all or nothing." I think it's either plan for worlds or plan for the Team Challenge Cup later in the season/next season.

And more time to work on the quad isn't a bad thing either. Hoping he'll do a Machida-like reveal in the months to come! (Minus the too early retirement...)

Kinda wish they granted his petition now. Nathen Chen is out 8-10 weeks after hip surgery

Yeah...I'm okay with them not granting it over Nathan, but they might be kicking themselves now for not naming him 1st alternate at least. I love Grant and all but the stars must align pretty perfectly for him to get the kind of scores Jason is capable of getting (even for less than perfect skates).

Definitely not looking good for 2017 :(

So sad for Nathan. I really felt like it was his time. Praying for a complete recovery! With Nathan I felt like he could have finished in the top 5 at worlds. Looks like we'll have only 2 spots next year for the men.

Do you? I'm sure Grant will do well.

So many people, including Phil Hersh, were vehemently of the opinion that it was absolutely critical for Nathan to go to Worlds this year and that it would be a crime if they sent Jason.
