Jason Brown

this is very good news from Jason for 2017! I think he is on fire indeed and we will be cheering him on for sure! I think he has a great chance .

Great new article on USA Today by Nick McCarvel.

“I’m not going to lie, I was really looking forward to it,” he said. “I had dreams when I found out it was there. But then I think about how much more hungry I’ll be next year for worlds. I want to be there in 2017 to secure those three spots for the Olympics.”

Johnny's comments are pure gold again: "Despite the fact that he is stronger internationally and more respected than an athlete like Hochstein, you have to show up and compete, injured or not.”

What drivel.

What I find interesting is that Nathan Chen wasn't mentioned at all. Not by the article, not by Johnny, not by USFSA. To state the obvious, USFSA thought that the team of Adam, Max and Nathan gave them a better shot at Worlds than a team that included Jason.

The height of hypocrisy from a skater who openly admitted to FAKING INJURY AND WITHDRAWING.

Leave it to Jason:love::love::cool: to create such a positive out of this ... and the best part is that it's genuine.

ETA: Also I really appreciate Nick McCarvel's reporting. So much more complex and thoughtful than the journalists and fs commentators, etc. who whipped up a frenzy re: "but we gotta have more quads!"

Just posting here that I hope that Jason stays positive and completely recovers and is able to continue to improve next season (including getting a quad). I'm so bummed out about the Adam and Max getting so close but still losing that 3rd spot. Next year's U.S. Nationals is going to be even more brutal.

On the positive side, there's no reason that Jason can't be competitive when you look at how well he had been scoring internationally and how those scores would have stacked here tonight (I know you can't purely look at earlier scoring, but it still looks pretty good - especially when you look at his potential with even what content he had then).

:cheer: for next season Jason!

I really missed his presence last night and am so looking forward to the TCC (or whatever it's called next month).

I agree that Nats next year is going to be brutal, and i hope not only that he's completely healed, but that he's able to integrate one or more quads into both programs while staying healthy. After last night's results, its almost a foregone conclusion that a healthy Nathan Chen will make the World team, and that Jason will be competing with a lot of other very talented and deserving men for the remaining spot.

A little OT but I was so proud of all of our guys last night. They all skated beautifully under pressure, and Max showed yet again that he's not only a great competitor but a really generous one. His genuine joy when his teammates succeed (Adam last night, Jason at Nats last year) is more impressive to me than all the improvements he's made in PCS this year.

I agree! I was there last night and the atmosphere during the FP of the Americans was omg....super magical.

I hope Jason comes back stronger than ever. I missed him despite Javier was terrific Friday night. Jason knows artistry as well. Look forward to seeing Jason compete again. He always finds the right words to say. I cannot say the same for Weir. Cannot believe he would suggest that Jason should risk further, possibly career-ending, injury to compete in the Nationals. I believe Jason made the right decision, but I still do miss his presence.

Eh, when I read the article a few days ago I didn't bat an eye at what Johnny said. I didn't think he was saying Jason should have showed up injured, I interpreted it as "we shouldn't give byes to people who don't compete at Nationals". And that's a fair viewpoint. I don't care what he did or didn't do as a skater. He's in a different role now and his opinions are allowed to change.

I agree that people can and should be allowed to change. However, the position that only people who show up to compete should be named to the team isn't consistent with USFS policy & procedures. In fact if you read JW's words closely, what he he really seems to be saying is that Jason's body of work doesn't merit granting him a medical bye, which is not quite so neutral.

Actually, I was more struck by the statement from Wendy Enzmann. It's hard to judge her tone because Nick didn't quote her entire email in the article. But the absence of any positive statements, even a general one like, "Jason is a valued member of Team USA and we look forward to his full recovery," or whatever, left me with a negative impression.

Jason has been cooking at the OTC with Team USA! I am looking forward to seeing what he made with Chef Richard Blais!

I wonder if Jason (or Max for that matter) observes kosher dietary rules - although I do believe that many high level athletes stay away from dairy because it's not the healthiest form of protein (not to mention the weird hormones in many dairy products). But eating meat by itself is tasty enough.

My interpretation was the same :agree:.

IIRC, pulled pork ;) was one of Max's answers to an old interview question about favorite foods, so in his case, I think we have a No re keeping kosher and a Yes re the tastiness of meat.

Random anecdote re Jason:
He loved eating dumplings in China -- which typically (although not always) are made of pork and/or shrimp.
But can't rule out the possibility that he stayed away from those ... and chose only chicken or veggie dumplings, for example ...

I remember seeing a video of Jason having a hotel breakfast at some competition, the videographer asked him what he was having and the answer was "bacon" modified by something like "I guess it's bad/I shouldn't". But I got the feeling he meant bad as in unhealthy :)

I'm Jewish as well and I really don't keep kosher (oops)...yeah I love spam too much. But I don't eat shellfish and I fast on Yom Kippur.
