Jason Brown

Thx, Katmari, I think the second IG poster was the one whose comment was noted earlier (last week, a different post) by Tavi.

Seriously, how did Jason expect to train unnoticed at TSC? Color me confused.

it would be a shame if some of the more unsavory twitterers were discouraging him, but I guess I could understand that....

To clarify, the above post by "yellowchinkyfever" is more recent than the one I saw, which was from last week - it's her second one.

Really strange that Jason, Kori, and 7K are not commenting AT ALL but are leaving it to other commenters to spread the word. They must know these posts and pix are out there by now and they're clearly not trying to stop them - they're not being deleted and Jason himself posted that pic with Gracie confirming he was in LA - but only showing them having "fun," not training. He did it at a high profile time - the unexplained withdrawal from Broadmoor, the failure to send public good wishes to Team KoRo, Jordan, Rohene, his non appearance at Alexa & Chris' wedding (even if he wasn't invited) ensures people would eventually notice. There's no news tidbit on ice network and no tweet by USFS to clarify.

I'm actually starting to wonder if it's deliberate - eg, he, his publicist and / or Kori decided to keep everyone guessing about his coaching situation and fueling buzz / speculation / intrigue in the run up to the GP and / or next year.

TBH if that's what it is l, I'm getting really turned off- I don't like being manipulated.

Jason skates at Sun Valley this week :)

Saturday, July 2—Last year’s U.S. men’s champion and 2014 Olympian Jason Brown, 21, and 2016 U.S. silver medalist Polina Edmunds, 18, from Santa Clara, Calif.
Brown, known for his ponytail and captivating performances, withdrew from this year’s nationals because of a back injury. But he was part of Team North America that won the gold at the Team Challenge Cup in Spokane, Wash., April 23.

This is the first Sun Valley on Ice show for Edmunds, the 2013 National Junior champion and 2014 Olympian who plans to study at Santa Clara University.

Irvine said of the two headliners, “Jason gets in front of the crowd and just shines. Polina is a skater to keep an eye on. It’s exciting to have a skater make her debut at Sun Valley.”

This echos what I have been thinking. Nothing exists in a vacuum and I would think they would know this by now. It does almost feel like they are leaving a trail of breadcrumbs... i mean all three of them (Carly, Gracie and Jason) posted pics confirming his presence hours after it hit here as gossip... that is one heck of a coincidence, and if stalker control is a factor someone dropped the ball... don't confirm whereabouts if you are trying to deal with stalkers... and if it is that big a deal, check forums for gossip first before posting stuff.

Thanks to Doris we know he is still planning on the Sun Valley show... not going to lie I have been monitoring the page, but beyond that... things are odd. And total silence is a great way to drive talk... which is what is so odd. The reality is that if Jason had done one message wishing Team Koro good luck and said something like "so happy to be training with the legendary Frank Carrol and so grateful to have him as a USFSA...whatever his new roll is" no one would care of think anything of it. We woulds still talk about it, just the buzz would be positive. This could have been handled much more cleanly if anyone would have bothered to put a little effort into it, and frankly thinking no one would notice is just naive. That is part of what is so strange here... there is nothing unusual about training elsewhere for a week in skating... no one would have found it odd if Jason training with Gracie and Frank for a week if they would have just said something because it is normal to do so. The reaction would have been "how cute" and "good for them"... it is like they are trying to hid something that is not suspicious. Even skipping the open... would not have aroused suspicion... we know it is normal for skaters to change plans last minute. Very few fans would have been upset at him saying "It is just not really what i need training wise right now" and not going... the mystery was far more annoying.

I don't know if i think it is deliberate PR game though. While I think that stuff does happen... frankly if we were being played with I think it would be more entertaining and well done... we would have more clues for us to find and discover if this was a game.

I will concede that if they want to do less training footage, that is their prerogative. Some may find training to be for lack of a better term proprietary and not want to share it. So the lack of training info i can kinda give a benefit of doubt to. Not that i agree with it, but not wanting to share training info is at least a POV i can view as valid.

Honestly I just don't see the point in not communicating with fans... I just think it is considerate to do all you can do keep fans informed so fans can make plans and such. The needless mystery dances just don't seem worth it.

Well anyway... we should be be getting GP assignments today... maybe that will shed some light on this... or just lead us down a new trail of breadcrumbs.

Well, gotta beat the dead horse some more (as a vegetarian what an unsalubrious metaphor. Oh well) It's post here or vacuum.

Man, the manipulation theory did not occur to me, but that is plausible. At this point anything is plausible.

And as has been said, I just don't understand no "So happy to train with the great Frank Carroll" posts, no "So happy to see this smiling face (Gracie, Dice, Misha Ge, anybody) on the TSC ice" posts. Just post one, and all of this goes away.

After all, for the opposite point of view, Courtney Hicks tweets every time she's at 7k, she loves 7k, she hates leaving Colorado, and I don't think a thing other than she likes to mix it up (and having learned thanks to other postings that Jere Michael and Rohene are BFFs).

OK, I really *do* have to vacuum.....

Also I think i may have committed to say I was wrong if Jason got two assignments...so here it is... I was wrong.

I really like these assignments. It will be plenty of time between events so he can train on needed things and/or compete at a Senior B.

They also give good audiences, and the competition could be worse. COR and COC I think are the stiffest.

Assuming he

a) stays uninjured
b) can at least stand up on a UR but not DG quad
and;
c) stay focused on more than just the quad

I thin the GPF is a reasonable goal.

Same as last year, liking these assignments!

This year, skating gods, please let Jason stay healthy until NHK:hap85:

And USFS may have rocks for brains, but not giant rocks, with Jason at SA.

ETA: and Romain at whatever they call Trophee Lalique these days. Cool!:agree:

The event page on Jason's website has been updated with his GP assignments.

So the list there now includes Sun Valley, Skate America, and NHK Trophy.

But oddly (IMO) not The Ice ... which is an on-the-record commitment (meaning that The Ice website shows him as a member of the cast for certain shows).

FWIW, no mention of Glacier Falls.

Just a thought...a lot of the training Instagrams were from Coach Vincent, and he is no longer at 7k...

Good point, Doris. :agree:

Wishing Jason the best at his GPs :).

(BTW, will note that we now know that it was not misleading for USFS to use Jason's photo for the webpage and social media re Skate America tickets. All good regarding that matter.)

I noticed that but was going to give till the day's end to say something. Again, it is a change. I think that his social media may be more about him than his skating now. Ohh well.

Not sure what you mean?

To be honest, I think the change in style, if permanent, may prove costly. His infectious joy and love of communicating with his fans have always been very special qualities. Without them, in many ways he becomes just another skater. A year ago the fans in this thread were happily discussing his prospects for the coming season; now we seem far less engaged. As for me, well, yeah, he's gonna be at Skate America and I should be thrilled because I have tickets. Truth: right now I don't really care.

Maybe I'm just tired.

I just meant i was still thinking he might post something time wise he could still be up... so i figured give it till the end of the day before calling it that he did not mention it.

I agree it may not be a wise move to pull back like this. Being a personality has always been a factor in being a career skater and it seemed that Jason knew that. Engaging less in social media seems to be swimming against the tide. Then again... making his social media prescience about him as himself as opposed to him as a skater, could be a part of trying to be a personality... in a let the skating speak for itself way.

I can understand being less excited. He waited till the last minute to pull out of NHK and Nationals. And just kinda disappeared on the Broadmoor Open... I don't exactly want to count any chickens before they are hatched to speak. It is hard to be excited when we don't really know what is going on. He needs to give us something to get excited about almost.

Well I do hope that the change is one he made for himself and is happy with. I would hate for it to be do to a stalker, or getting worn out/negatively affected by fans or annoying PR interference that he does not like. If he wants it to be more about his free life... so be it, I will enjoy it for what it is, but I do hope it is his choice and a well reasoned one.

Edit: We did get a cute picture mentioning Skate America... no mention of NHK, but the sentiment is there... and the pic is cute.

I swear I was reading this post without the ETA and thinking, if we don't get a pic with Gracie, (let alone maybe Gracie *and* Dice) so glad to be going to SA with this great gal, this great guy, I'll spit.

My thoughts to your thoughts, my mind to your mind.;)
