Jason Brown

Jason Brown is competing at the Lombardia Trophy, where he is -- not surprisingly -- excited to begin his season :laugh2::rofl:
This reminds me of an interviewer who begged Jason to "well Jason, in the future, just try to be a wee bit more enthusiastic."
I can fully relate, after seeing he was even excited to see poor little insignificant me in Bratislava last year :party2:

Y'all, StitchMonkey found this guy (I think?) live tweeting practices, and the US men are up now!

For you Shoma lovers, he's got a few tweets about Shoma - check him out!

ETA: Jason + manbun!

They also just mentioned that he did land a 4T in practice.... said it was scratchy but landed and looked rotated! :yahoo:

I think this is our first reported publicly landed quad from Jason. As I recall he did not manged to land any during practice at Skate America last year... so he is already ahead of last year... in theory.

Jason 4T practice rotated!!!

Err okay I'm late to the party! Thx Stitch!

Great minds think alike!

They said he missed it in the program run though but still... even a landed one at all is huge for him. He has missed jumps in practice before and hit them when it counts. This is actually very very encouraging!

They also said "missed" during run-through... which is an odd choice of words. If he fell they most people would say "he fell" if it looked short, most would say it looked under rotated. So either it was really a bad attempt, or just an ugly but no fall and maybe at least only UR attempt.

Looks-wise he looks like he's matured about 5 years in the past year! He already looked good at TCC but he's looking really great now

I think Jason has a very interesting competitive streak in him - last season sure does seemed to have fired him up.

Who reported that he missed it in the run through? I couldn't find on Twitter.

Will he sport the manbun also in the competition? Inquiring mind wants to inquire... so excited for tomorrow's SP!!!!! :yahoo:

I thought it was my perception, but he really looks like he grew up! So excited for him!!!

I am not a fan of manbuns... really I am not a fan of buns in general. I think buns are utilitarian/practical - not attractive or a good look. To me they are a bit like coveralls...why would you wear it without a need?

That being said... I do like seeing guys play with their look and express themselves. If Jason likes the manbun (as opposed to Rohene telling him to wear it... who by the way was rocking one with Tomoki at the JGP) then I hope he has fun with his man bun!

... but I really hope he puts it in the SP and not the FS. His FS is kinda simple (simple is not bad) especially with his simple outfit (which looks good). I think the loose flow of the pony in the free really works well. On the hand.... the strict ballet feel of the SP actually might fit a manbun rather well. I have rewatched his GF skaters and keep wishing the pony and manbun were switched. I might like the manbun in the SP... or at least would think it fits well. I am not a fan for the free.

Beyond that... I think he sees himself as ponytail Jason. The FS "look" is often how you are remembered, or at least the most likely to be photographically preserved, assuming you medal. So if he seems himself as more pony than manbun.. he should have the manbun in the short and the pony in the long. Part of this is based on some of the "class photos" of the 2015 US worlds team that were taking after the comp. All the ladies were in their costumes but with their hair down and looking fab. I.e. they wanted to look how they think they look good... rather than look how they looked in their program. Jason was in his T&I costume in his pony... not the braids. That leads me to believe he likes his pony look more... so I think he should keep it in the FS. If he goes to worlds this year will he want to be in that picture in a pony or a manbun? He should skated his FS in the one he prefers... leave the SP to play with.

Well at GF the manbun was in the FS so that's probably where it will go - although I too would prefer the ponytail with that costume - it's a bit severe.

Thx for info on jump. Darn, wish he'd been more specific - fall? Two foot? <<? Pop?

But truthfully, it's what he does tomorrow that counts.

This could work out well for Jason. Less pressure early on. He will be fresh and warm and less a bundle of stress and less time to think. I think if he can land on in the warm up... this skate order will make it highly likely the SP attempt will be successful.

... it also could lead to some really interesting scoring. I have seen one blogger state that his SP can "easily" break 100 with a clean quad... let's say it happens and he does break the 100 point mark. And then Shoma does a 4F and 4T+3T cleanly... and later Max does a clean 4S+3T and 4T cleanly... both cases could easily end up in the mid to high 90s after a leader with 100. Get the popcorn ready.

What quads are Grant trying? Has he tried more than one?

Start Order: Jason and Shoma skate 2 and 3, respectively, Grant 6, Max last - must be random?

https://twitter.com/wwxjk/status/773948093821620225

A draw was held today to determine the starting order.
It is random based on the draw.
As opposed to just randomly random ... if you know what I mean .

Thx to Stitch and Tavi for all the updates :).
Nice that Jason is blogging again.

The schedule with individual start times is here, if anyone is interested:

Jason 14:57:10
Shoma 15:02:50
Grant 15:26:20
Max 16:27:30

Best wishes to all :yay:.

(The field keeps shrinking. Now down to thirteen.)
