Jason Brown

It was a beautiful performance! And even though the quad was underrotated (which you could kind of tell in real time, so I'm not surprised) it was definitely his best attempt yet IMO. Yayayay :agree:

Real-time it looked good to me. I'm mostly dirty because a) they didn't call his one the SP under and it was worse than the FS one and b) they called Adam's clean and his was worse than Jason's.

It was right in front of me. I'm not sure how my view is compared to the video, because I haven't watched it yet, but I would say it looked "obviously borderline" to me. As in, it looked like it was right around 90 degrees. Usually I don't see real-time URs very well so I figured if I saw it, it was probably underrotated and the judges saw it too.

The inconsistency from program to program is another issue entirely. ;)

Is there a vid of the BESP coverage?

Here's the B.ESP video. I've been watching for it too. :)

I wasn't able to see Jason's SP until today and think it's the best performance yet, even with the errors. The free skate was sublime and everything I hoped it would become when he first performed it last year.

 :luv17: :yes2:

Edited to add: After watching all the plushies being thrown on the ice after Jason's performance, it's a good thing he skated last.

5 hours after I am still agitated with excitement, my scream shook the entire Rome when he nailed that 3-4/5T :yahoo: After that I started crying like that lady at the gate (shown when he came back to the rinkside) and continued on for quite some time!!! It was a personal victory for him, an enormous confidence booster. I am so, so proud of him!!!
Here is a cute bit found on Twitter... he remained on the rink after the medal ceremony, obliging an army of fans, signing autographs and taking pictures. He was being called to get off the ice repeatedly but he continued, finally the announcement threatens him "Jason Brown, you are going to be grounded"

Grounded???? I'm laughing now!!!!!!!

And, after our Jason slays in the FS, time for some fun from the gala:

Canned Heat in a Cubbies shirt::clap:

I like it better in the Cubbies shirt!

ETA: Goodness, it's already started. You know: Jason Brown got massively gifted in PCS. The quad was <. One person on FSU is actually saying that it's too late - Jason will never get a quad!

I laughed a lot at that. Some idiot also said Jason would never get a "decent" 3A...right after Jason nailed that one in his SP.

As for PCS, I actually think he was underscored here. It was almost like they went for the overblown PCS for Uno and then panicked and realised that if they scored Jason relative to Uno he would be on like 95 and then I guess they were worried Jason might win.

Anyway, I'm stuck at work, but really, really looking forward to getting home tonight, settling down on my couch, fetching up the B.Esp video and casting it to my telly, and watching it with pure joy and no stress. Possibly multiple times.

@arriba627 have you seen him being grounded? :laugh2:

This was SO funny! We were howling! But it wasn't only Jason -- Adam and Shoma had to be prodded to get off the ice too. Of course there were so many fans who wanted photos, autographs, etc. Shoma came to our section. I posted some photos of him in his Fan Fest. They're not great quality but are fun...Of course Jason was the worst of the 3! I think he had a lot of his local fans there, and they just wouldn't let him get away. They needed to get started on the rehearsal for the gala. You gotta just love Jason.

thanks! the fan who's come from japan described on twitter the scene and she really praised his servicemanship, calisma, etc through the competition. he cherishes his fans and he dedicated to japanese fan club also. He gives his comments in japanese and he speaks with smile even when he is tired. so lovely a character.

Icenetwork article

My favourite part:

"It was kind of one of those dazed moments," Brown said. "I was so focused. I said, 'I'm going to attack it,' and suddenly I'm on one foot and I didn't have to fight for the landing. I thought, 'Oh my God, this is happening,' and then I thought, 'Wait! You're competing right now.'"

That made me laugh so hard, it's just exactly like I imagined it must have been

Also made me cry a little bit, too

I am rather surprised the fans didn't just haul him off the ice and carried him away with them  That was so typical of Jason. He realizes the support from his fans is essential to his career and he does his best to treat them with his reciprocal appreciation. I so admire him for that, among everything else :luv17: Now I am going to the Shoma section to check out your photos!
I am so happy for you that you experienced the monumental occasion live, as well as lots of behind the scene jewels!!! :peace:

*happy sigh* I just watched the BEsp version of Jason's free skate and....sigh, it's so beautiful. I will be crying watching this for the rest of the season I think. I loved the British commentators' excited gasps when he landed the quad.

The version of Canned Heat posted in this thread seems to be muted, so I'm on the hunt for another version.

This still works I downloaded already before anything happens :agree:

This is for el henry especially

Canadian commentary of Jason's SP. Pay attention at 4:05

Kurt: "That is Toller Cranston good!" :agree:

Thanks for posting this!

It was really nice to hear Kurt mention all the other stuff he does well. In particular, at about 0.50 he says, "he's one of those skaters who never looks like he worries about the next edge, the next push - he gains speed from steps that most competitors worry about." He also mentions his beautiful posture, 3A, and lines. Would love to hear their commentary on the free!

Most interesting to me: they confirmed that he had planned a 4T-3T as his opening combo. Based on what I saw, I know it will be beautiful!

ETA, do you guys realize that if he hadn't fallen on the SP quad and gotten no credit for his camel spin he would have gained an additional 8.5 points, and if the FS quad had been called rotated and his last spin was level 4 as usual (not level 3) he would have gotten an extra 4 points in the FS? 85.75+8.5 = 94.25; 182.63 + 4= 186.63; 84.25+ 186.63= 280.88. Pretty amazing. Especially when you realize he can also get better GOE on some elements in the FS.

I know things have changed in the past year, but do you realize he would have taken bronze at 2015 Worlds with his actual score here, and would have won gold with the changes mentioned above? At this year's worlds he would have been fourth with his actual score; with all his spins and two fully-rotated 0 GOE quads and his theoretical SA score of 280.88 he would have beat Boyang by 10 points for Bronze. With one quad in each program.
