Jason Brown

The news of a stress fracture and the two weeks (IN DECEMBER!) really makes me nervous about what Jason will be able to do at Nationals. I'm hoping Jason does well enough to at least get 3rd and go to 4CCs.

Thanks for the heads-up! Hubby agreed to humor me, so barring snow or ice, we'll be there! :)

I love when hubbies humor us! Praying for good weather, and looking forward to the report!

Article by Nick Zaccardi / NBC. It has an embedded clip of Jason discussing his FS, but I think (not sure) it's from earlier in the season:

ETA the article answers the question I asked on the men's thread about what 80% means: he's got 80% of his normal strength in his right leg. It will be interesting to see how that affects him. Aside from landing his jumps on that leg, he obviously uses it a lot in footwork and spins, so we may see less speed and power.

My favorite element of all, that beautiful back catch foot camel spin, is on his right foot, so I hope he can do it justice!

I haven't listened to any of the telecons except Adam's yet, but I need to ask:

Did anyone ask Nathan about Jason? (and that is not a dis on Nathan, he is not responsible *at all* for journalists and believe it or not, I do respect Nathan's obvious gifts)

Jason's press conference now on Ice network:

http://web.icenetwork.com/video/v1216161783

... ETA having listened: not a single question about Nathan. He sounds very strong and positive, ready to put it all out there and accept whatever the results are.

Best of luck to Jason :yay:. And to all the U.S. men.

In response to el henry's query, a few notes on Nathan's call:

Nathan was not asked about Jason. (My thx to Tavi for noting above that Jason was not asked about Nathan.)

Dave Lease was the first reporter called on.
Dave first asked Nathan to explain his coaching situation this season ... what's going with Raf and Marina, etc.
Dave's first follow-up question was about training with Patrick Chan.

Lynn Rutherford was the second reporter called on.
She asked Nathan about his role as "the overwhelming favorite." More words directly from Lynn: "... there is so much buzz about you, and rightfully so ..."

Since this is our safe haven for Jason ubers....

I think there are others here who mentioned that, like me, Jason brought them "back" to figure skating. And of course, the legendary Toller Cranston first brought me to skating (Or at least men's skating).:luv17: Ryan Stevens in his SkateGuard blog found this 1979 interview with Toller, who was evidently considering an amateur "comeback" for 1984.

http://skateguard1.blogspot.ca/2017/01/toller-cranstons-1984-comeback.html

The interview has this wonderful quote:

"In the performance that I would give, the emphasis would be totally on performing. I would perform like wild. It's not that I wouldn't do a number of things, but I would say, let the skaters doing the quadruples and the eight triples do them. I would do all the things that they don't do."

Does this remind us of anyone? again.

Go, Jason!:hap10:

its a total shock too here about his injury and please do your best that's all your fans can ask of you. Jason! go Jason !attack!

I hope that Jason takes a breath this week, and skates to the fullest of his ability. If that ability is hampered somewhat by the injury, if he cannot do the quad, so be it; he is far enough above the rest that he is almost assured a place on the 4CC team.

And the ice is slippery...

Lucky me! I got to see Jason skate his short program live tonight! :) :) :) He looked awesome! I have to admit that I was worried about the injury and somewhat expected him not to skate, or not to do jumps. But he skated, and he looked really good! I'm not sure how much he took out of the program. There was no quad and I couldn't tell for sure what the combo was, but he did one. I'm no expert but it didn't look like he had trouble with any of the landings. The Russian split was superb! Unfortunately, there was a glitch with the music halfway through and he stopped for a minute or so, joked with the audience, and then resumed the program where it left off. This was my first time seeing him skate live and the big thing that jumped out at me was how good he looks on the ice. There's just something special about his skating, the fluidity, the preciseness. There also appeared to be a sereneness about him. Nothing was rushed. I was mesmerized.

Oh Rosa74, you are so lucky! I am so jealous. I'm glad to hear Jason skated well!

Thank you, Rosa74, for the report! I'm so glad that Jason skated well. :yes:And that the Colorado snows held off:laugh:

And Jason would be perfect for entertaining the crowd during a glitch, I think.

Although not technically their fanfests, if you wouldn't mind sharing about Jordan, or even Tomoki, I think folks might be interested.

Oh, lucky you, Rosa74! Sounds like fun. Jason is so exciting live! Thank you for the first-hand report.

Of course! I was looking forward to seeing both of these guys. Tomoki was ok. I've only seen one video of him, probably from this year's jgp event, and I feel like he skated pretty much like he did then. He had one fall. I do like his music and he elicited some loud cheers from the girls in the audience. I've been rooting for Jordan to make it back from his injury. He did pretty well and I feel like his jumps looked better than what I remember from the sectionals video. Stronger landings. There was one pop and he hit a nice combo. Jordan has a very nice look on the ice - he gives the appearance (in this group) of being so tall. There were a couple of younger teens (or girls) who impressed me with their very elegant skating. I may be able to remember their names if I look at the Sectionals results. Anyway, I hope they keep improving, because they are beautiful skaters.

Back to Jason. I'm not sure I've seen the shirt before that he wore tonight. It was like a dark gray with side buttons and a Nehru-type collar. Not the same color as the black pants. Has he worn this before? I thought he looked very good.

Skate7K has posted a brief video of Jason, Jordan and Tomoki's performances on instagram:

Wonderful! I can watch again. :)

I don't think so. He's been wearing a white button down and black pants for the SP. That is good to hear he dressed it up a little -- there is a happy medium between simple and Rohene Ward-bedazzlin'. :D

ETA: And now I seen the video--I like the shirt.

Also the clip included a 3F-3T and a 3Z. Looked solid.
