Jason Brown

So Jason's planned elements appear to be no quad in the SP, open with a 4T in the free and also he has a 3A+3T listed.... not sure it is worth it given how lovely his second half 3F+3T is, but hey... he wants to up the game... that is a good sign.

Not going to lie, was really hoping for a 4T in the SP.

Hmm. I calculated the difference on the combo. He actually loses 0.3 points with the change. So either it's a typo or there's another reason for doing it. For example, maybe he's eventually going to move it to the second half but needs to put it in first half initially to build stamina.

Re SP: I think it depends on what will give him the most points and position him best for FS. It will depend on how everyone else skates, but a clean SP scoring around 88-90 might be enough to get him into the last warmup group for the FS, or at worst the penultimate group. But if he falls on a << or even < quad, he may end up too far back to get really high PCS in the FS. If his success rate improves in practice, they might risk adding it in SP.

I think they'll be looking at it from a points perspective. If the consistency improves he might risk it, but I think for his team whether or not to put it in the SP will be a purely points decision.

Go Jason!

We have confirmation of Rohene on site!

I am VERY happy he is there.

With the 3A+3T, I think sadly part of it is perception as a harder combo. I mean it is harder, but I wish the system rewarded it more logically than have the reward be implicit. I do believe that the GOE scales better on the 3A than than the 3F, so it can be worth it in that sense if the skater can capitalize on it... but his 3F+3T is so good... that is a lot to make up and I am not sure it is worth the perception bonus. If he nails it it likely will be more worth it in PCS than GOE... but alas that is the system we live in.

As for 4T in the SP... for me it is more of a recovery thing. He was perfectly fine attempting the 4T in the Sp this season so it is hard for me to see him as back to 100% without the 4T in the SP. He made it clear he wanted it in both this season... so in my eyes a no quad SP is kinda only 95%... which is still great, but id be happier to see a fully healthy and recovered Jason. Additionally, I think he is more likely to hit it in the free if it is in the short. He did better in the free on his 4T pretty consistently this season.

It is a weird balancing act. He does have the advantage of skating in the last group.

Well about the combo, I think it's a typo. I just posted his FS run thru and he does his usual combos.

Re quad in SP: I know what you're saying. I just think with 3 spots on the line, they're thinking more strategically. My guess, anyway.

He looks really good! Funny how a few more weeks can make the difference.

I think he'll decide on the 4T on the short pretty much day of, like they did with the 3As at Nationals. They had a plan for a one 3A layout at nationals, but went back to two 3As after he had a good warmup.

Yup agree about SP quad. He does look good - pretty close to normal. He got the loop after the hydroblade, and the 3S at the end of the combo, so his strength and stamina are much better. Also, the 4T he fell on was close to fully rotated, so maybe by the day of the comp it will work - that would be great.

It's just a relief to watch with a feeling of relative calm rather than worry. And as compared to 4CCs, we are so lucky with all the practice info we're getting! :)

(Yikes, when did I become a smiley face person?!)

Jason being Jason, promoting that he is happy to be in Helsinki

And my very important question: who is the older dude with the pony photobombing? Should I know this guy?:scratch2:

No, that hasn't been posted yet. Thank you!

Yes you should know the older dude.

It's Pasquale Camerlengo. He is a former ice dancer, current choreographer and coach (with Anjelika Krylova). They currently coach Hawayek & Baker.

OK, 90s ice dancers, and current coaches, not so much ... I'm lucky I know Rohene with Madi and Evan:laugh2:

But he is showing Jason that you can rock a pony when you're old:dev3:

Can some of our Japanese-speaking friends tell us if this tweet means that Dice said nice things about Jason:

https://twitter.com/JasonBrownFP/status/846156706883256320

Twitter translate: "Daisuke Takahashi, world men's review Jason that so me compliments! Piano lessons and programs like it 😊 I read a nice article so ❤ " and a link to the article in Japanese.

I just think that would be so cool after Doug Mattis' IG post:biggrin:

I noticed no one has responded to your request yet so I used Google to translate the article and here's what Daisuke has to say about Jason:

Jason Brown (USA) will show the movement that remains to be seen as a program. I also love his free "piano lesson". You can see that all movements are being expressed while listening to the sound. Even when I am spinning, I hear the sound. Although the jump is not very good at the athlete, all the parts except the jump are sprinkled with the highlight. Nevertheless, it does not feel like a heavy "too much", and it is accepted as one coherent work. Until now it was a neutral impression, but I saw the sexiness of a man.

Just wanted to drop in to say that seeing Jason live again in practices is just  his skating skills, glide, smoothness, beautiful posture & carriage... so breathtaking. His split jumps are AMAZING. His extentions are to die for, it's so controlled and perfectly on point. I could gush all day :drama:

He had a bit of trouble with the jumps (especially at the end), but I wouldn't worry, he looked good overall IMO. And he looked in good spirits, smily as always

Awwww that made me feel warm inside!

I feel like I'm coming down with a cold so I was not too excited about the prospect of standing around all day, but this has given me more energy again!!

hi:ghug:, hope You're well and enjoying as much as You can!!!

happy to read that You enjoyed seeing Jason with stuff he's best at, because there's so much to appreciate in his skating, and happy to hear that his positivity is there too, hope it's infectious

and boy - does he look great?! glide, control, quality, poise, emotion, purpose are all there!

At 4CC he looked like he was holding back, but he is looking good now. No matter how many times I've seen his spectacular splits and spins, they still take my breath away.

Rohene is alive and well and in Helsinki, although I did see him yawning a couple times while he was standing at the boards with Kori.

The men were at the main rink EARLY today too. I missed the first 2 groups (darn, missed Patrick) but came in just as Jason's group went on the ice. No spectators allowed at the practice rink because there's no seating.

Darn! But it sound like you're getting to see a lot of great stuff - days must be long and tiring though! :)
