He lives at the WTC (ETA: make that OTC ) for criminy's sakes, where Mr Jackson Skate Guy could probably check in on a bunch of skaters.

Don't know the reason, but I've seen other highly ranked skaters go to Toronto. Jason and Kori went there when the stress fracture was first diagnosed to get interim boots that were easier to break in.
 
Didn't he just go to Toronto for new boots around the time of his injury? Maybe they have some special equipment that's only available on-site?

And more importantly, will we never find out his musics???

Agreed! Waiting for Jason to announce "Hamilton" is like waiting for Misha Ge to announce his retirement.

I remember reading that in an article too, and if I remember correctly, they made custom boots for him because of the injury. Jackson Ultima's HQ & Elite Boot factory is located in Waterloo, Ontario Canada so I'm guessing he goes there for a personal fitting.

RE music -- I've been listening to Hamilton a lot. I have Jason's previous program music selections on a playlist and I'm eager and ready to update it with this years music. Any day now, right? :biggrin:

We may not till a competition. He did not officially announce his piano music ahead of time and was revealed with the first note at Broadmore Open (though Rohene did slip it in earlier, it just went over out heads). He also never formally announced his change of SP last season... he just showed up with his exhibition music to his first Challenge event of the season.

Jackson Ultima has three Instagram stories this morning of Jason at the Mitch Moyer seminar at the PSA conference. The Instagram video shows Jason demonstrating and speaking about boot flex (with his Jackson DJ5452 boots).

Preparing for the seminar perhaps could be one of the reasons why Raj Misir (the well-respected and beloved VP of Jackson Ultima) and Jason were working together at the Cricket Club a couple of days ago??

ICYMI, Raj had been the subject of a long and wide-ranging interview at 2013 Skate Canada for Pj Kwong's podcast.
(His title back then was General Manager at Jackson Ultima.)

Raj spoke briefly to Pj about working with Jason and Kori.
Pj had brought up the topic of Jackson's hinged boots, and Raj mentioned that Jason still had been wearing them until the previous year (but the ProFlex hinged design then was discontinued, I think?). For Jason's use at 2013 Skate America, Raj made special boots to give the ankle flexibility that Jason likes and had been accustomed to with the hinged boots.
Raj is all about innovation, and he complimented Kori for being great to work with -- because within the very traditional sport of figure skating, she is someone who always wants to try new things and wants innovation.

ETA:

Raj does a lot of traveling all over the globe to work with World/Olympic-level champions/medalists/skaters.

But as Rosa noted above, it is not unusual for top international skaters to travel to Canada to see him as well.​

And ... we get to see a bit of Raj dancing :dance2: with Jason in Jason's video re Toronto.

Plus there are glimpses of Raj and Jason in what seems to be a Jackson warehouse, I would guess? Also Jason at the Jackson factory?
So perhaps Jason's trip included Waterloo as well?


BTW, I love that performing for the camera comes naturally to Jason's father as well. And joie de vivre apparently runs in the family :ghug:.
 
Loved that video! Brings back memories from trips to Niagara Falls & Toronto. We still have our Maid of the Mist ponchos and pull them out for various occasions. Don't think the zip line was ever an option for us (if it was there). Seeing the factory and Raj was pretty cool.

So when Jason doesn't post video on IG, does it have anything to do with the music?

Jason got assigned Skate Canada (his first time at the event) and NHK Trophy. Pretty stiff competition at both: He faces Patrick Chan at both, Shoma Uno at SC and Yuzuru Hanyu, Dmitri Aliev (the World junior silver medalist) at NHK. He also faces Joshua Farris and Adam Rippon at NHK.

First time no SA! Wonder if that was his choice...

Probably not, but I don't think it's a bad thing. He was at skate America like 5 years in a row. Doesn't hurt to go elsewhere. I think it's also good that he faces some key contenders early, even if his chances at GPF are likely slim.
 
Wonder why SC only has the one USA man? RC has two and all the others have three...

ETA No I was wrong, France also has two, not three.

That's happened before. I think there was one year where there were only one U.S. men in China.

So, I was thinking it seems a lot of the top competitors are going back to revised versions of former programs, so Jason might be able to stand out with fresh new programs. (Although watch them decided to bring back some random old program now that I typed this. :laugh:)
 
I am not sure not getting SA was Jason's choice. He made some comments about expecting to be there when the schedule was announced. And we have not heard from Jason how excited he is about his assignments. But really, USFSA should share the love and doing other GPs will be good for Jason.

Positives i see in his assignments.

  • He has not been to Canada as a senior. So he gets to skate in a new country that i am sure will love him. Also being the only American is not exactly going to hurt him. It is a good chance to win new fans.
  • SC is also in the same time zone as he trains in... so in some ways an easier travel schedule than even SA.
  • I think it will be a good schedule for him and his body. Last GP of the season has not been good to him. He also is a late season skater. So he gets to start the season a little later with no time change, then two weeks later do another GP then if he does make the GPF he has a longer break than he would have at SA. Or he he does not make the final he can give his body an early pre-nationals break... so really I think the timing will be good from an injury prevention standpoint.
  • He got NHK, that is always good and good for his career. Plus he gets to do a GP with Josh. I suspect he is happy about that, and I think it will be good for them both... they push one another, I expect strong skates from both of them. It also can serve as timezone practice for the Olympics
  • There are strong skaters at all the GPs, I think his chances for a bronze at each event are not at all unrealistic. If the stars align even a couple silvers could happen. It could be much worse, I think his chances are fair and as good at any event.

Nothing is perfect, his situation is not that bad, I think he will be fine.
 
I'm not surprised that he didn't get SA - I was actually pretty sure he wouldn't. But it looks like his chances at GPF are pretty slim - he faces Patrick and Shoma in Canada and Patrick and Yuzuru (not to mention Josh and Adam) at NHK.
