Jason Brown

That was a solid competition for Jason, crazy inflation aside (even he was surprised by the 91+ score pcs). Actually it be fun to see if he stays in the 90s with clean skates.

I pretty much came from it adoring the FS. I liked it before, but seeing it with at least triple jumps, made it sing more. That program is going to be challenging if he wants to do 2 quads with it....it's airy and light but the choreography is exhausting -- so many turns, one-footed skating, transitions. I expect we're not going to see a perfect version of this FS with quads for a while.

As I said on the men's thread, I'm not full on board with Hamilton SP yet---I like the step sequence and I admire Jason's commitment to it, but not fully sold yet. I hope it will grow on me cause I know how much he wanted this program to happen.

In the room ;)
Still processing, (I do NOT get up early enough to watch this in real time) but glad to see everyone loving this LP. I think/hope it is a harbinger.

I do have one absolutely silly observation. I have only seen stills of the medal ceremony. Like this: https://twitter.com/polymnia_skate/status/909118973840625670
Jason looks delighted, he always looks delighted. Shoma, bless him, always does not look delighted.
But Brendan? He looks like he lost his best friend. This was a good result for him, I thought, what's up? :scratch2:.

I mean it just makes Jason look sunnier and more positive, if possible, but I feel *bad* for the other two....;)

So they didn't show the medal ceremony then? I had to go out (shopping -- ugh, on a Sat. no less). I figured I missed the ceremony. Quite the handsome podium! Look at Mr. Ever-Effervescent Jason! The million dollar smile! :luv17: Maybe they just caught Sho and Brendan at a bad moment?

ETA -- Maybe this one is just a little bit better? http://shoma-uno.tumblr.com/image/165406305817

Great photo of Shoma and Jason! I think Brendan could just be exhausted - sometimes you have that let down after intense effort.

Really nice pic of Jason:

Waaaaat? Don't quite get this remark. After they gave Uno 92 I would have been throwing things at my television if Jason didn't get over 90.

That's pretty close to his standard podium face, actually. Or maybe he's just feeling ripped off because no actual medal, just a silly plaque

Here's a photo of all three men smiling (Shoma looks like he's got something weird going on with his hair, but it's a plant behind him):

I know Jason's long program wasn't perfect and it will be even better after he's gotten more mileage on it but, after watching it, I was like the gatekeeper at Skate America, "It's so beautiful!"

I love parts of his SP but think it still needs more marinating to come together.

Jason retweeted the photo of all three smiling; clearly a nice looking group of young men, particularly when they smile.

I love the Italians, but organizational skills? Not so much;) Plaques that look like the "Performance Awards" we got as federal employees, no flags during the ceremony, and outrageous pricing ... good thing the men's field was good:agree:

Just seem excessive in general not just Jason. I think an 88 or 89 would have been more reasonable...but what do I know?

Though that said, I love this program. Like seriously. I hope things pencil out to see this in person.

I like the FS--so pleasing and soothing. Relaxing. Jason has once again proved himself as a remarkable artistic performer.

His SP is fun and his FS is calming. A nice contrast. I love.

I just watched a couple of the longer Lombardia videos that have the K&C. Both Jason and Kori seemed very happy (relieved?) after the long program. Did it go better than expected?

I was wondering if perhaps he was under the weather or jet lagged or something. When YesWay mentioned in his reports that he had missed all his quad attempts in practice that was somewhat a red flag, cause I get the impression he gets the jump in practice. He's well trained so he managed but I have a feeling he wasn't at 100 percent. But that's a theory.

I thought the same thing. It looked to me like they rearranged the free skate at the last minute to remove a quad or quads.

I was listening again to the interview Jackie Wong did with him before Worlds, and he was describing the beginning of last season, when he was regularly landing quads in practice and was eager to land them clean in his programs. I know the FS is hard, but it doesn't make sense to me that they would have backed off both quads if he was at full strength. One, maybe. But not both - not with the Olympics in February.

Yeah, you can tell that Jason wasn't used to doing a -3S combo at the end since he's been practicing it with a -3F instead.

The solo 3F was nice though. Actually all the jumps looked really good....I was chucking at someone on FSU who said that he now does 3As like it's his best jump. Don't disagree though.... you'd never know he spent like YEARS dealing with that jump.

In hindsight, the injures, as delaying as they were might have been a great benefit in the end cause it seems like it forced him to rework his training habits and in a sense learn to jump under those training habits. He's always been super good bout doing training, but seems like he's a lot smarter about it. I think this competition is a good example of it...

Well we have a long wait until Skate Canada... six weeks. It will practically be like skating at home. Regina is in Central Time, which is only one time zone over.

I think they're really really pushing for Jason to be on the Olympic team again. And he has nothing to worry about if he skates clean. I think they'll send him even without a quad. But still crossing my fingers that he'll land one during the GP!

The 3F was huge and amazing! It will be interesting to see if he ever actually trains a 4F. And yes, the 3A seems so solid now - the two-foot 3A in the SP perplexed me for that reason. Even the loop was pretty good.

I hope that his pulling back from the quads in this FS is a sign that he's listening to his body.

And yes - it's gonna be forever until Skate Canada! Normally we'd have another Sr B but sadly, not this year - at least not before his first GP.

Curious - why do you think that, and who do you mean by "they"? USFS?

hi All, just want to pop here to congratulate Jason on silver at Lombardia. At the same time - I want thank him for all the experience, a beautiful one I had watching him over the weekend. This beauty is strong and lasting and it's the rare ability to make me focus on a very little things, mostly overlooked. Thank you, Jason, it really meant a lot for me to be able to 'get lost' in something beautiful for a change due to your performances. And I allowed myself to re-post my thoughts on both programs from Lombardia threads:

SP

The same level of 'thoughtfulness', 'ownership' over whole performance and control of every aspect of skating is applicable for Jason in my opinion, even magnified by his strong, prominent personality. The edge of using 'Hamilton' already gives him a 'statement moment' on ice I feel – he's kind of breaking it for masses, making it his own signature, which for me is a quality of a great, mature performer taking total responsibility and ownership of the effect put on ice. But then – Jason for me makes every music, every theme looking entirely 'his', he just gets the theme, goes to the stage and owns it fully, which is one of my most loved features of Jason: he gets into role, character, vibe 100% with no reservation nor doubt since the very beginning. I love that choreography reflects so easily on music, beat and lyrical layer of it, which then enable Jason to perform it very naturally and effortlessly-looking. He totally proves by that SP performance that he lives to perform, he loves giving the joy he feels himself to the people, those emotions he feels. I understand some people are not taking Jason as a valuable skater/competitor due to the lack of a stable quad performed, but this SP is cementing my view even more that I'd rather love/appreciate Jason more when he gets that quad than miss/ignore his uniqueness and full-rounded performance ability with sublime skill. I want Jason with all his kicks, spirals, insane spins, crazy footwork, facial expressions than anything else Jason is supposed to be according to many people. This kind of natural performance ability cannot be bought or learned easily.

FS

Jason really transported me into another place and dimension by his performance. And it was an amazing place to be. You see, his whole case, his presence in figure skating world, competitive side of it has so much 'educational' value for all and helps to be more open, more tolerant and more sensitive for different ways of expression in skating. He dares everyone to focus on elements, on components people pay very little attention to – he makes the smallest things to pop in the most beautiful, intricate way. And I feel that he does not want to completely change people's perception forcefully about his way of skating, performing and expressing – he just want people to expand their thinking and try to understand frm where he goes. This program is all about detail and meaning behind every movement done – it tells the story, shows emotions, but with very sensual, unspoken and mysterious way for me, as there is some piece to guess, to find and explore after music finishes. And Jason's musicality, the way his body is so sensitive over every sound makes the performance just flow and last. Two definite highlights from the sea of all that grace and magnificence were: 2A and the whole transition after it into step sequence and then ½ Lo sequence RIGHT with the music and then amazing spiral/arabesque sequence. It takes a real effort and huge talent to create something that sublime yet powerful and seductive in reception, but moreover – it takes right skater, with certin amount of sensibility and care over every aspect of the performance to make the program work its magic in reality. Everything spoke to me and woke my senses: the softness of hands, the airy flow between elements, all extensions, elegance of costume, honesty and rawness in expression. I'm just glad being able to see and feel that beauty in its pure form, feeling it deeply and realizing that this is Jason's strenght and character behind it.

I love the 3L combo into the spiral! But I am also amazed by the 3A which essentially becomes a transition for the beautiful spin that follows it almost immediately, and the final 2A which goes right into twizzles and then into the final spin. Just gorgeous.

One thing I noticed was that in the second half he did a lot of crossovers - more than I remember him doing previously. Wonder if thats due to last minute program change or due to being under weather and needing more power.
