Jason Brown

I'm going to advocate for the Jason was not invited and is not injured camp. I was bit surprised to not see him invited to the gala, but this gala is a bit different as they had to include the top ranking junior skaters as well. That meant they were limited in who they would invite outside of the medalists at the senior level.

Jason scored like 89 points in the SP with really good jumps. The free skate, while not the usual caliber we're used to seeing him in wasn't that terrible either. He did land one of the two 3As (which he didn't do at NHK Trophy) and the while the jump mistakes were costly, they were not, IMO, completely disastrous. Again see NHK Trophy last season as a reference point. So unless Jason broke something in the span of 24 hours, which seem really unlikely, I don't think he's injured.

I get we're all on edge cause Jason's had injuries, but all the interviews and things indicate to me that he's dealing with other stuff right now. Just as tough as a physical setback, but still not an injury.

Are you worried that he was invited and declined, and that he might be injured?

Unless we have any indication that he declined an invitation (did I miss such an indication??), I am not inclined to worry. YMMV.

Agree with Mrs. P. My interpretation of his absence from the gala is that he simply was not invited.

Don't think these items were posted in this thread before:

- Cute GPF photo of Jason taking a selfie:

Videos from Wintrust, "Chicago's Bank" -- which is supporting Jason and the Knierims as part of "Chicago's Team" of Olympic/Paralympic athletes and hopefuls.

- Video about the entire group belonging to "Chicago's Team":

- Video about Jason:

This was my thought too - that between the GPF/JGPF they had so many skaters to invite that they had to make choices.

I looked at the gala list, and it seemed like they were trying to ensure they had skaters from all or most countries that participated. The US, Russia, and Japan were all represented by 5 skaters/teams. Only two senior men weren’t present - Jason and Sergei. It looks like they probably chose Adam and Mikhail because they were higher ranked. My best guess, anyway.

Plus Jason skated his Gala performance in Japan very very recently at NHK so the audience was likely familiar with it; this was an opportunity to show Gala performances they had not yet seen from other skaters who had not competed in Japan before.

wow I was surprised that they did not invite him too the gala and he is very popular in japan didn't they invite adam. I would have liked too have seen jasons gala performance all adam did was sing.

I was actually traveling, and not hiding as a result of the LP....

But I am scared:sad21: I'm just not used to this one step forward, two steps back from our Jason. I'm ready to abandon Son of Piano and go back to the real Piano:devil:

But reading y'all has made me feel better. :agree:

Riverdance time!

Aw, I like the FS a lot! And so does one of his favorite skaters Nobunari Oda! (From yude's translation on the men's FS thread):

Oda: 3F, he landed beautifully. He had no quad and fell on 3A, so it is not easy for him to get high TES. But the expressions like this, he is really using his whole body. By using the whole body, there will be shake on the body core, and it is difficult to skate with paying attention to it. So he is evaluated highly by the judges for that. And his steps especially, level 4 is not enough, I want to give him level 5. He was skating big indeed.

I wish Odaddy was judging! #GiveJasonLevel5!

Speaking of awesome Japanese skaters of the past... any sign of video from that TV show with Taka? I really want to see it (well I guess I'd have to get it translated, but you know what I mean).

If he doesn't go then I've given up on this sport

I believe 100% he will go!

From your lips to the skating gods' ears:biggrin:

I don't know what is, and isn't, "fair". I do know what would increase my enjoyment of the Olympics 1000%. :)

He will be there. I'm already practicing my screaming for Nats!!!!

I hope to get to meet you, Arriba627! I think I'm the GS social director again, so I can make that happen, LOL.

(P.S. Join the slack group!!!)

It's not just the quads. When he makes mistakes on the other jumps, that makes things difficult.

Not that I've given up hope that he can pull himself together for Nationals. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Even if he is beaten fair and square?

I love Jason but he just hasn't done enough this season to be on the team no matter what.

If he's beaten fair and square then yes that's fair but I would still be unhappy.
