Jason Brown

He looked really good! He hit all his jumps except the quad, but it got better. The first he fell, the second he two footed and then he held on for the last attempt I saw. He really drilled that first 3A in that program -- I have a feeling he really was irritated about missing it in the short.

And I also think the 3A-3T is in. He did two of those. Both looked nice.

The costume is gorgeous! The back is sheer and it really moves well!

Glad to hear about both costume and program - in photo costume looks like a big improvement over last one and a nice compromise between bling and subtlety. I do see Rohene’s hand in the little thing hanging off the side - I think he still wishes Jason would have worn that costume with the purple sash (remember?!) for Piano! ;)

Glad to hear program looks good. Even with the two-foot in the SP, his jumps seem much steadier than they looked at GPF. I do hope it holds for tonight, as I’m sure everyone will be really intent on skating his best.

Jason seems very determined, though, and I don’t think he is at all taking his placement/chances at making team for granted. Here’s hoping that his determination is freeing and that he can really give his all tonight, technically and performance wise! :)

:)

Beautiful!

As a side note, I think that even if his 4T wasn’t working today, he probably will/should go for it. I think he wants / needs to show that he’s trying to improve technically, even if it’s not there yet. A 4T < fall would cost a lot of points, but if he’s clean otherwise he might still match his SA 2016 score (if I recall he popped loop there, which hopefully he won’t do here).

Anyway! Enjoy everything - by the way I LOVED the Shibs yesterday!!!!

ETA if anyone cares, I was wrong, he didn’t pop loop at SA. But he did lose a spin level and got an! on the 3F w/slight -GOE. Also, he was doing 2-6 versus 3-5 here. So if he has fall < on 4T (pls no <<!) he will need to work hard to get higher PCS:GOE tonight. But I’m confident he can do that.

I am soooo nervous / excited for Jason. I hope he flys tonight. GO GO Jason.

I also read Jordan's post and almost cried. It was so thoughtful.

Someone on FSU who was at the rink for the warmup reported that Jason landed “at least three 2-footed quads.”

ETA duh I see now this info was in Mrs P’s post - must have been half asleep reading it! :)

Thanks for the in-person reports, Mrs. P and the heads-up about the new costume. I'm still nervous about it, though. :) And thanks, el henry, for that post from Jordan. That had me tearing up. I hope this special young man has a good skate tonight.

I can't watch tonight, but I'll be checking in after it's over.

Let's go, Jason! You can do this!!!

I just saw the results, and I'm... utterly flabbergasted.

I don't know what to say.

:ghug:

Well.

I am of course:cry::cry::cry:

But I am trying to look at the "bright side" and it is this: I do not need to spend a night worrying about whether he will be selected (and I mean that sincerely, I am not being snarky). I will hope for 4CCs. And he has had the Olympic experience, which many other wonderful skaters have not.

And he is still our Jason.

As usual Jason did not give up on the performance. He was beautiful. He really is so special . That being said, I am so heartbroken for him. He wanted this so badly and would have represented the USA in such a favorable way in addition to showcasing his incredible skating. Let's hope for a 4 Continents assignment. I am not ready to say goodbye to this year's programs, especially the glorious long.

:ghug: is right!

ETA: A huge disappointment, but it will be ok. Something has been off with the jumps lately. Maybe this will take some of the pressure off and they can work on things without the stress of the Games. Personally, I think it's a confidence issue and he'll figure it out eventually. But for now my heart breaks for him.

I am so sad for Jason- you could tell he was trying to keep smiling when he was getting his scores. But I think that this could be a stepping stone in his career. Sometimes disappointment is the best motivator. I hope he uses this experience to reflect on what he wants going forward in his career and what he needs to do to get it. He is a glorious skater and has every quality, but he needs to figure out his tech as it's the only thing keeping him from standing among the best in the world. I don't have any doubt he will find a positive out of all of this- if anyone can then it's Jason. It's part of what makes him one of my favorite skaters!

And I hope he keeps that wonderful LP another year- he deserves to skate it to its potential.

Well, that had to be absolutely the most heartbreaking thing to witness in person -- especially after witnessing the exact opposite in person four years ago. The sad thing is, I knew it was game over when he completely botched the quad. You could sense it was going to be a bumpy ride. Again, it was SO frustrating because he looked great at the warm-up this morning and during the competition.

He worked so hard to keep the performance together, but compared to the short program here (and in general), he was WAY more tighter than usual. The skating, the spins, step sequences were absolutely gorgeous but it didn't have as much of the spark I usually have seen from him. That said, the step sequence and spiral sequence were AMAZING to watch...and as I've said, the massive improvement in his overall skating quality was really great to see.

I hope he gets 4CC and that he can hang out with Grant and Caroline (who I bet would go to Taipei if Grant got 4CC) and go eat soup dumpings at the original Din Tai Fung together. Speaking of which, I forgot to mention this earlier; before the warm-up started this morning, Grant and Jason greeted each other warmly with a hug and had what seem to be an enjoyable chat. They truly respect and like each other.

Honestly, this season really was a setback of mental sorts. It seem like he struggled so long physically with all the injuries that perhaps he didn't have a chance to really deal with the mental aspect of things, which is kind of crucial in a high-pressure Olympic situation. I hope he can pick himself up and slay 4CC in a few weeks if he is assigned to that competition.

Otherwise.: Jordan and Ben both had really nice skates, so I was really happy for them. Tomoki was fantastic as well. And Ross is another favorite of mine (he was on my "want" list with Jason and Nathan) so I was really happy he killed the FS. And while not a favorite, Vincent also rose the occasion -- underrotations and all-- and I was among those who gave him a standing ovation. And obviously Nathan was amazing. It truly was kind of an exhausting night for me. :drama:

So heartbroken for Jason. He’s such a special person, and such a gorgeous, unique skater. Not sure what went wrong tonight, but I really hope he can move through the disappointment, learn from it, and continue to grow.

Considering the US fed decision on the 4CC team for the ladies, it’s very likely that Jason will be sent to 4CC as well. Let’s wait and see.

I was at a lost for words. I'm so gutted for Jason. However, he had accomplished stuff that most skaters would have just dreamed of: Which is a lot. Which includes going to the Olympics and winning a medal (In the team event), being 4th at words, getting GP medals, going to the GPF, getting a national title, getting 2 world junior medals, etc...

I literally was hugging my computer screen last night during the stream when he was in the K&C waiting for his scores.
