Jason Brown

I read Jason's quotes from the mixed zone (it's on the 4CC ISU page under "Quick Quotes" in the media section) and he said his goal today was not to "hesitate." He says that he's been bothered with how much he "held back" and "hesitated" all season long.

I've noted that his issues with the 3A and quad this season seem to be timing in the takeoff and if he's claiming that he's struggling with hesitation/holding back, then the timing problems makes a lot of sense.

It's interesting to hear that. I wonder what drove this hesitation/holding back feeling. In any case, he definitely did not hesitate or hold back today -- even with the 3A mistake, I actually felt that today's performance was probably the best I've seen from him with that SP this season.

I thought Jason was great today despite 3A error. He looked really comfortable with the program and its rhythm, which is not the easiest to skate to.

He definitely has a shot at the bronze medal, so let's hope his freeskate turns out well.

I am so so so so frustrated with the 3A this year! :scratch2: Although not as much as Jason is, I'm sure.

Still, I have grown to love the program, and he better darn well skate it at SOI. Evan Hansen I'm not as excited about, but I'm sure it will be on the bill....

And completely :otopic: how do you edit the custom user title? I did it once, but I can't figure it out again. It's only until Feb. 5:biggrin:

I know nothing about jump technique but those comments got me curious. I watched the 3A again a few times and from what I can see, his air position was straight, but he landed off balance at the very back of the blade, which caused him to lose control and turn out to recover.

Intuitively, if I personally feel like I’m holding back or resisting doing something I think I should be able to do (literally or figuratively) I push myself forward. If you push too hard, the momentum may be too great too control easily. I wonder if that’s what’s been happening to him. I did something very similar as a singer at a certain point in my life.

As to the hesitation - maybe he doesn’t trust the jump is there, or is trying to be extra careful to make sure everything is perfect. With singing that can be self defeating - wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same for jumping.

Good luck to the Eagles, which is kind of my hometown team since I lived there for so long. For some reason they broadcast the Seahawks v. Patriots Super Bowl game on TV at the restaurant i was eating at and it was so heartbroking to see them break a 3-quarter lead within a matter of minutes. :/ May the Eagles not do the same (and don't do what Chicago Bears did that one year either!)

And here's a thread about custom titles: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?8672-Custom-title

Basically go to your user CP (the page where your subscriptions are: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/usercp.php) and select "Edit Profile" under the "My Settings" section on the bottom left of the page.

Also i like to mention that 2014 was the year that Jason got in the Olympics AND Seattle won the Super Bowl. This time around the Seahawks didn't even make the playoffs and Jason didn't make the Olympic team. :drama:

Thank you; I saw Sam Skwantch's answer in the "help" section too, but you were much nicer about your almost homeboy Eagles.

So I will drop this here: Philadelphia Orchestra plays the NFL's greatest fight song

Maybe we could re-purpose it: Skate, Jason, Skate, on the road to a PB....:)

Just watched Jason’s SP and enjoyed it very much despite the 3a! I literally don’t care at all about his jumps because to me, the in between parts, the skating, is what I love.

Also I hope this is not off topic, but can someone explain to me (a noobie) why Jason’s spins are better than others? I can tell that he has better positions and spins faster, but could someone explain that from a technical standpoint? Like what is the “level 4” that he gets and how come others don’t achieve this?

Plenty of other people achieve level 4s. Max gets them too, even though people decry his spins as poor.

Jason's spins garner a lot of GOE (he often gets +3s) and he gets lots of level 4s for several reasons:

- First, his positions are clear and held. His sits are always down, his camel is always a camel, his uprights are clear, his variations are clear. This helps enormously.

- When he hits a position, he makes it look nice and effortless. Big + on the GOE

- Because he can do so many different variations, it increases his options. For example, on the camel, he can do both a side and a forward on each foot. This maxes out his CCSp level, but because he can do so many other variations, it doesn't hurt him on combo spins, where he can just do a basic camel but then rack up features on the sit, uprights and intermediates. The more features one can do well, the better.

- his speed and centering are second to none.

Phew! I was really expecting Jason to score something like 82 with how stingy the judges seemed to be, so an 89 with a mistake was actually really, really, really good!!

Was finally able to sit down and watch Jason's 4CC SP and wow, that was a phenomenal skate! I feel like he hit all the musical marks the best I've seen and had terrific energy all the way through. He loves this program and it shows. Can't help but wish they'd let him do Hamilton for the long as he wanted. If he does this program at SOI I just may have to travel to one of the locations. Watch out, el henry, you're location is the closest to any of my family. ;)

Wishing Jason all kinds of good karma for the long tonight!

He wanted it for the free skate? Huh. I totally don't remember that at all! He could have kept Sam Smith SP (as much as I hate that guy's voice ) for the long and did Hamilton for the free skate.

A Hamilton free would have been epic. Oh well, what could have been... I can understand why Kori & Co. felt there was a better contrast to doing Hamilton/Inner Love than Sam Smith/Hamilton. And of course I have no clue if even keeping one of the programs was in consideration.

I do agree 4CC was definitely his best performance of it.

Yeah, there was a short clip somewhere where Jason said something like, it's the short and not the long, but at least I'm skating to HAMILTON! I thought it was in the short program reveal video but I just checked and that wasn't it. Anyway, I promise you it was somewhere besides just my head. I remember at the time thinking, I hope he wasn't too disappointed that it wasn't the long. I love the Sam Smith SP and wouldn't have minded keeping that at all, as long as Hamilton was there somewhere. ;)

I hope you find it cause yeah, I don't remember him saying anything like that...

I came to like the Sam Smith program cause he did so well it.

I'm really excited if Jason gets to do the whole SOI tour - I'm planning my vacation right now and I'm looking at cities that are where and when they will stop.

Although now, I'm coming to realize that I'll probably never see Jason and Joshua do a show together again and it's hard not to get too bummed out. :(

Jason is doing the whole tour so you can choose accordingly! :)

I have three stops within driving distance. Leaning toward Spokane or Portland.

As for Hamilton as a long, I would have loved to see that...

I wish they had let him do it for the free - most of the Hamilton songs are long enough for a free, and the music cuts wouldn't have to have been quite so brutal.

Well, @rosa74, spring is lovely in the Lehigh Valley, and you can join the (I hope ;) ) cadre of Jason fans here.

And I hate to say this, but wouldn’t Hershey be closer? Not that I know my Southern geography all that well (when I drove south on 81 into Maryland, they have a sign up for the Mason Dixon line, and each time, I was like, that’s right, this is the South::biggrin:

And I’m down for an LP of Hamilton:)
