Jason Brown

I think it comes down to if you like Lockwood's writing style. It can be seen as indulgent, excessive and "gushy." But others like it because they see it as funny, whimsical and witty. I for one am wishing I knew about her earlier. When I looked at my Twitter profile it turned out a TON of my writing friends were following her.

I'm going to go get her Priestdaddy memoir. IT sounds like a complete hoot. Living with your married, prog-rock loving priest dad int he rectory.

Thanks for all the additional information about Lockwood. I love her writing style and plan to get her memoir as well. As soon as she referenced Fantasia and Darth Vader in an article gushing about Jason, I knew she was my people.

Besides, where else can we talk about all those Froozer placements Jason has been doing recently. I do need to try those:laugh:

Bananagrams responded to their mention in one of Jason's Froozer tweets:

LOVE this! Excited to be in the room where it's happening (: You are indeed a #TopBanana !

Interesting that US Figure Skating hasn’t retweeted the article since they’ve done so with some of the Lin Manuel tweets. I wonder if that’s because it’s just not on their radar yet, or because they didn’t like the comments about Nathan (and perhaps Ross).

ETA I like that the author is responsive to questions! :)

ETA again - post by the photographer-you must scroll to number 3 to see a really cool clip which I don’t think )?) was in the article!

So in other words, it was an insult.

She basically said that he never stood out to her until that free skate. She also explained that is how she saw him not a reflection of Ross' skating.

YMMV.

You're welcome to talk to her about it. She's seems willing to have discussions from people who take issue with her piece. I've been impressed by that actually.

Adding the next Lockwood tweet (referenced by Mrs. P):

totally a personal idiosyncrasy of mine — I think it’s just because he happens to physically resemble a couple of the other skaters. announcement of the team slots must have been especially heartbreaking to him after such a skate.

It's a shame (IMO) that for perhaps hundreds of thousands of NYTM readers (or more) who knew little or nothing about Ross, Lockwood's "personal idiosyncrasy" could cause an unfavorable impression of him.

(I do see that her tweet acknowledges his heartbreak.)

Request to a moderator ... Is it possible to move discussion of the NYT article to a new thread so the Jason Fan Fest Thread can return to being a fan fest thread? Thanks in advance.

I second this request.

I fail to see how asking whether this author has insulted any skater *other than Jason* is relevant to the Jason Fan Fest.

Can these remarks and discussions be moved where people who want to discuss her remarks about skaters other than Jason can discuss them?
Thank you!:thank:

Thx for the link; I think this post from the photographer’s IG deserves highlighting.

We’ve all seen photos of Jason smiling, but this really captures the ethos of Hamilton, I think.

An excellent and thoughtful photo to accompany an excellent and thoughtful piece:agree:

^^So inspiring! Thank you for posting. That heartfelt emotion on his face is making me teary eyed!

I think this was part of the photographer's IG post, but the video of Jason's spins is on the NYTimes Facebook site

https://www.facebook.com/nytimes/videos/10151472205674999/

And more than the video, comments worthy of the Fan Fest:

Excellent article. He’s so talented and strong.
You haven't lived until you see him do a Russian split jump right in front of you - awesome!
What a beautiful person. The way he smiles and laughs at the end is so heartwarming.
Jason is one of the best, beautiful skater in all ways... And, has a killer smile always =)!

AND

It's the room where it happens guy. (I'm fascinated by the fact that this is overtaking Riverdance as an identifier, which is a good thing).

Of course, it's the Internet, there are rude, including homophobic:( comments; but far overwhelmed by positive ones. A good read:agree:

Jason tweeted:

Worked with the Wall Street Journal yesterday on a piece to breakdown the various types of jumps you'll be seeing while watching Figure Skating at the Winter Olympics!! Here's some behind the scenes! #Salchow #Toeloop #Loop #Flip #Lutz #Axel @WSJ ✨😱❤️

Oh, how cool! I wonder if it will be stuck behind the Journal paywall:confused:

With this, even I might learn the difference between the jumps (well, I can tell an axel from the rest, and maybe a loop. Maybe:laugh:)

So cool that he’s going to do this. He’s getting quite the publicity these days.

Heh heh, I wonder if he’s going to demonstrate a quad, or just the various triples? :)

el henry, until the Jason /WSJ demo appears, you might like these:

Or, here’s a series where Michael Weiss demonstrates jumps (be prepared, he repeats the same intro in each clip!):

I learned by comparing protocols to routines. So I'd take a protocol for a certain competition, then find the corresponding video. I started learning how to identify spin levels that way too.

I love that the girls are trying to emulate Jason's signature moves. That one girl is pretty dang close on that I spiral.
