Jason Brown

Jason did an interview for a small outlet in Bucks County (just north of Philadelphia), promoting the Allentown and Hershey shows.

when the interviewer asked him about any Pennsylvania connections, the best he could come up with was his cousin went to Penn State and loved it. Our fair Commonwealth needs to step up and make more of an impression.

He claims he is taking the whole tour to think about the R word. The rest is tried and true Jason stories.

Adam Rippon and Johnny Weir represent PA. That's good representation. Adam is certainly a connection. I guess Jason wasn't prepared for that question.

Yes, it was a curve ball.

By now, Jason fans could answer about his support system, his move to Canada, his sister skating (not that all those were in the story). But not, "what about Pennsylvania"?

It's interesting, he gets the same advice as those of us who were older and contemplating retirement in other terms : "When you know, you know"

Yes, it is so in all sports. And I think it is telling that Jason does not seem to know. If he knew, he would know.

Of course, it is easy for us all to say; it is Jason's body, and he's had his share of injuries over the last quad. He's also the one paying for another year. But looking how much he is enjoying his skating, and listening previously to how he spoke about the oddness of not skating before crowds and the oddness of potentially ending his career before empty stands...

I would rather he start next season, realise he did not want to continue, and retire mid-way than retire pre-season and then realise he made a terrible mistake. It would be much harder to rectify the latter.

Based on 2018 and the ensuing 4 years, I'm sure that Jason will not make this decision lightly. I am also sure that he will follow his heart. If the thought of going back to the training grind brings him joy, he'll probably commit for another year. I think he and his agent are putting his name out there as a possible skater in shows in Japan and wherever else ice shows still pull crowds in and they will see what that market looks like. Brian and Tracy are opening up the possibility of coaching gigs for him. It feels like he's testing the waters to see what they are like. He really doesn't have to commit to training before July. I think that he is using this time to celebrate the culmination of his 4 year Olympic quest and is enjoying it. I also think that it's telling that he didn't want to go straight back into training as a World's alternate. I'm sure he knew that he was likely to be called. I also think that he's probably also waiting to see what changes in the competition rules there will be for the next Olympic quad. If those changes favor his brand of competitive skating, he might decide to try to move the sport forward more. But it's still a quad game, and Jason is probably tired of playing that particular game. But he loves to skate, he loves skating with other skaters in or out of competition, he loved training in Toronto and he clearly loves Brian and Tracy (especially Tracy.) But he's going to be 28. It gets harder and harder. He's had a long competitive career.

Nothing particularly new in this interview with Detroit TV station (playing skaters on a loop instead of Jason in a very drab hotel room is probably a good idea ;) ).

Always the gracious hype man, naming and praising other skaters.

Is it me, or does he sound congested? (very much the off season with these trivial questions:LOL:)

Yes, he sounded congested. A lot of pollen out there.

No, we will know before then. Grand Prix assignments will be out before the end of June. I cannot see Jason choosing to continue but not do the GP.

Let us hope it is only pollen and not...The Other Thing.

He loses his voice when he talks too much. And with all the people he was in contact with in DC, talking too much is a possibility. He's always very enthusiastic when he talks to people.

Yeah, unfortunately this wasn’t a scratchy throat, this was stuffed up and nasal.

That said, he has been skating in this weekend’s shows, so not The Other Thing.🤞

Well, my luck has turned this afternoon and the Sporting Gods are listening to my prayers, so I will send up one that Jason stays well clear of The Other Thing, though with the amount of luck I just used up to protect The Most Important Shoulder, I might have used up all the bonuses

Did you go to SOI? I don’t think I read your review.

I did go to SOI in Allentown for the same show El Henry went to. We sat in different places and had different views. I was further into the corner in the first row, so I did miss some of the action at the other end of the ice. But Jason covers the ice so completely that I was able to see him up close and personal, particularly in Sinnerman. He skated with full energy and attention to detail that he would give to a competitive performance, but with 2 jumps instead of 4. The applause for him increased as the show went on and everyone around me was saying extremely complimentary things about Jason. Personally, I enjoyed Jason the most, followed by a spirited performance of Rocketman by Nathan, very committed performances by Vince and Karen, energetic performances by Hubbell and Donahue, and group solos by Zach, Jason, Nathan and Vince. I really enjoyed the show, despite the family behind me talking non stop through the program except when Jason skated Sinnerman. After that ended, lots of excited talk about Jason Brown(which were the only words I understood as they were not speaking English. The audience loved the show. And so did I! I am very, very glad that I went. I had a wonderful time. Most of the audience may have come to see Nathan, but they left talking about Nathan and Jason. The guys all looked like they were having a good time.

Might have missed this one, because a story about Canadian SOI is not necessarily where you would look for a quote about Jason. ;)

Jeffrey Buttle on. "I Lived"

Buttle had the opportunity to see the “I Lived” program Jason Brown had chosen prior to the start of the U.S. tour. He said he was totally captivated by the routine. “I was at the Cricket Club and Tracy (Wilson) asked me if I wanted to see it. I was like ‘of course!’ It is an endearing piece that he brings his personality to. It brings a tear to the eye just watching it because it is very heartfelt — it is just perfect for the show and perfect for the message. And, of course, he is just unbelievable.”

Very nice description of “I Lived” from Jeffrey B. I loved this program too. It is so Jason.

Jason and Mariah were asked at one of the SOI Q and A's how the news of the doping test at the Olys affected them (can't hear the question but that's obviously what is was).

Jason's answer surprised me. Not the "I focus on my own programs" part, the other part :):

On another note, Jason and Mariah have been doing the skater Q and As with the local figure skating clubs at every city, as far as I can tell, and they look like they're having a blast. . (Saw one with Vincent too, but Jason and Mariah are the constants)

No, that doesn't surprise me, actually. I've heard before that being at the Olympics can be a bit of a bubble to begin with, but I think Jason - or one of the others - had spoken before about how extra bad it was at this Olympics.

I suspect this will be yet another contributing factor if and when Jason decides to continue.

He mentioned before that he was unable to watch his own skate on replay while he was in China, because the athletes were blocked from watching Olympic coverage. So they really didn't know what was going on. He didn't see it until he went back to the States and at the time that he was interviewed, he had only watched once.
