Jason Brown

Great interview! He really did answer all the talking points. The interviewer was super; he wants to travel.. six places specifically in mind that he has never been .. a couple really surprised me. He has a fantastic outlook regarding the years ahead… I can see him teaching in some capacity definitely in future.

Jason is always a great interview subject - engaged, thoughtful and enthusiastic.

I thought his answer about training quads was interesting. He essentially said he didn't train them this year as he was trying to stay healthy and not have to deal with injuries sustained with repetitive training. He did say he wanted to work them back in if he competes next season (which he seems to be pointing to) but I have to wonder how realistic that is.
I always suspected that Jason's inconsistency with quads was more mental than technical. If he is competing on his own terms, as he wants to do, some of that weight might be lightened and he might well be able to land them in competition. We know that he landed them in practice. He's proven himself to be a great skater without them, so adding one might not be as big a burden as it used to be. Time will tell.

I have read an article about the shape of the hips, and it seems that Jason Brown has the least favourable angle for quadruple jumps, and for rotation in jumps in general. So, I do think that there is something technical, even if his hard work and perseverance made him able to land a few ones. I agree that he is a great skater without quads.

Do we know when Jason will be heading to Japan? I'm not sure what pictures we'll get, but he may show some when he gets there.

We haven't seen anything yet, but often Jason posts travel at the last minute (here I am on the plane).

Fingers crossed for everyone interested that he is able (if permitted) to post from NS practices.

I'm just popping into Jason's Fan Fest to say how much I love Jason's skating and his personality! He is so wonderful and I've been a big fan for years. I know both of his 2023 Nationals programs are on YouTube, but the drawback is that they have commentary on them. Well, I figured out how to download the full VK streams and then extract Jason's programs from them. It was TOTALLY worth all the time and effort. So, now you can enjoy both programs with no commentary, full crowd reaction, full replays and K&C. There is a Download button, which makes for easy offline viewing. ENJOY!!! :)

I do not care that he fell on the 3F. It did not disrupt the LP one bit and he got up quickly and smoothly. Along with the programs of Andrew Torgashev and Sam Mindra, Jason's programs were the most enjoyable and satisfying for me to watch during the entire Nationals.  I'm glad he is still competing! :hap10:

So we meet again @skatingfan4ever  Welcome to the Jason Fan Fest and thank you for the dropbox link to commentary free programs:clap:

Most of us don't care and have never cared about Jason's falls, one of the few skaters that you don't even notice. But frankly, I don't care if he does a 1F at the end of the free, the points and the placements are never the main thing with Jason. He triumphs no matter what. :)

I agree completely! I have to say, I could have sworn I posted more in this thread but I just looked it up and I last posted here in 2014, right after Nationals. :eek2: I am shocked at myself! I promise I have been a fan all these years, but I was mostly posting in Patrick's thread back then, and there were plenty of other people posting here so I just never did. Nice to see the thread in the high 900s for pages.

I was amazed by Riverdance and Scent of Love, but Sinnerman and Melancholy and Impossible Dream are simply on a different level, even among Jason programs. His Schindler's List is also wonderful. As amazing as his artistry was in 2014, it has evolved so much in a really beautiful way. It's also been lovely to see the evolution of his jump consistency. I used to be more nervous about him landing his jumps but now he seems to be Mr. Consistent (certainly compared to the other US Men not named Nathan or Ilia :slink:). If I might make a shallow observation, it's as if when he got rid of the ponytail his programs got even more pure and subtle instead of trying to fit in every transition in the book. Both halves of his career are amazing, but I do notice a difference of intentionality and experience in everything he does now vs. then.

Wow, that got philosophical in a hurry. Is it just me thinking that current Jason is way better than past Jason, even though past Jason was incredible?! (By the way, I noticed a similar thing when Patrick switched to David Wilson as his choreographer vs. Lori Nichol; he learned how to move more intentionally and his programs didn't look as crammed and he took his time more while still getting the SS and TR marks). The coaching change to Tracy and crew has really helped Jason overall, I think.

I'm a dedicated skating fan now because of Jason skating Riverdance in 2014. He announced loud and clear that he (and Rohene were taking figure skating in another direction, not just skating around between jumps. And he's just kept going, filling every second of his programs with intention, increasing speed and complexity and increasing consistency and accuracy, focusing on a clean meaningful program that melds perfectly with the music. He's extraordinary. And he loves to compete. It shows! Tracy and Brian gave him space to just be himself and skate the way he wants to skate. Tracy truly understands him. Brian is clearly a fan. Jason found a happy home with them. He's pushed other elite skaters to pay attention their components, their artistry, their spins and transitions and step sequences. He may not be doing quads, but you turn around and there he is on the podium with a medal, because he's just that good! Sinnerman was and is ground breaking.

Jason just simply keeps getting better and better. It's wonderful to see and experience.

Skatingfan - welcome to Jason's fanfest. I hope you come back often. The only problem I have ever seen being a Jason fan is that he ruins you for everybody else. I find myself in constant comparisons while I'm watching other men sometimes slog through their choreo hurrying to their next jump. That's why Andrew and Sam and a few others are even slightly interesting to me. I agree that Brian gave him a home but I honestly believe it was Tracy that's stood by him and guided him and gave him the emotional support he's needed. In any case, they are both huge fans. I love to watch Brian in the K&C when Jason is skating....

Thought you might like this tiny clip of Jason at rehearsals for NS.

Given it's only three days away now, a livestream seems unlikely and for most of us Hulu Japan is not an option :( but if I hear of any livestream or after-the-event videos, I'll post it somewhere where people can see.

I love your posts! I came across Jason's Riverdance Nationals routine purely by chance in 2014, and became an instant fan. I hadn't followed ice skating before then (apart from occasional Olympics coverage), but after Jason, I became completely hooked.

It was Goldenskaters who told me about Patrick Chan (another one of my absolute favourite skaters).

[If you don't already follow him, can I suggest you check out Deniss Vasiljevs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFajEc22Hbw - like Patrick and Jason, his transitions, performance level and expression are phenomenal.]

It's good to know that he's in Japan, getting to hang out with Satoko and will have a great time skating this show. It would be wonderful if there was a paid livestream to add to the funds that Yuzu is raising.
