Jason Brown

Jason will be performing at the Vail Ice Spectacular show on Dec. 22-23.

Vail Daily Article

For one thing, he had been so busy with shows and competitions he entered in the last two years that he placed Band-Aids on certain issues, such as boots. New boots can be real boogers, as skaters, and even skiers, know. When he got his latest new boots, he didn’t take the time to fix problems.

“At the end of the day, when it got too difficult, I would go back into my old boots. Now, I’ve had the same old boots for 3 ½ years — that’s crazy,” he said, a fact any elite skater at his level would attest to. “I can’t be like: How am I going to make this last for another two years?”

It became now or never: Fix the boot problems now and regularly skate in them, because no skater wants to wrestle with bad boot fits a few months before the Olympics.

He also had to address hip issues by taking time to discover what motions negatively affected his body, what overtraining involves and how much he can push himself. Prior to focusing more on competing again, he could simply avoid elements that bothered him.

Thank you @katmari, what a good article with new information (like the boots, three year old boots, yikes!) and the hip injury.

Plus even more information about what he went through in "the old days":

Brown, who has battled with landing quads consistently, paused working on them in the past two years. Though he has started to work on them a bit more now, it’s not his end goal, he said.
“At this point in my career, I’m always trying to push my technical limits, but I’m not as neurotic about it as I used to be,” he said.

Here's to less neuroses!

And to breaking in new boots and feeling strong and confident in them. I had a feeling that he might be training quads. If he can train even one and not get nervous about doing one in competition, that would be a really empowering feeling. I've always felt that he could do them. But whatever he decides to do, I'm excited about! I'm not ready to have him gone from skating competition yet. I'm just happy that he feels the same way.

He and Yuzu are so loyal to each other. I'm glad that they have been able to maintain that.
I remember seeing a clip of a moment way back at Sochi 2014 where Yuzuru was waiting for the medal ceremony and Jason approached him quickly for congrats and a hug. Since then, there has always been such respect and a lovely friendship between them over the years.

I remember this clip, too! It was so sweet of Jason, wasn't it?
They both turning 30 just recently made me realize their birthdays are not only days apart, but also they were born the same year! What a duo of 30 year-olds they are :)

One of his friends gave Jason Romaine Rogaine for his 30th birthday:laugh:. Well, if Steve is any indication, some day he will be facing hair loss (I know"they" say it's the maternal line, but I don't believe it. My dad was a cueball by the time he was 35, and my brother was also in his 30s when doing his Danny O'Shea imitation. Naturally, not from shaving. :) )

Love the anti-doping message as well.

He's such a good presenter - another of his many talents.

😭😭😭

Jason has alluded to his equipment issues throughout the season. although of course being Jason he was vague. He never wants to blame anything or anyone for subpar performances.

Hoping that he can resolve the issues and return as magnificent as ever:pray:

I was saddened to see this, but not altogether surprised. He's posted no practice clips for a while. He can still petition for World's Team based on his GP results IF he's actually able to train and compete at a level that he's ok with. I'm sure that this was a very difficult decision. He loves skating at Nationals. And we love seeing him. I hope they can resolve his training issues. It sounds like he's leaving the door open.
