Jason Brown

To all doubters and naysayers, we present Team USA World's. Ilia Malinin 1st place. Jason Brown 8th place and thank you Andrew for qualifying for the Freeskate. They earned Team USA 3 spots at the Olympics. I would like to understand why the judges gave Jason a Level 3 for his Step Sequence, though Jun can thank them for that, which got him into 7th place. Jason's skate was pretty flawless and the jumps were all good! This is why, my friends, Jason was put on the World's Team. This was not his first time in the top 10 at World's.

Jason skated to Riverdance at the Gala💚💚💚 (to which of course he was invited).

When he struck his opening pose, I thought, come on people, scream, but they soon caught on (no Riverdance costume, just a green belt).

Of course it was not competition ready and elements were missing or tamped down, but he was flirting with the audience and the audience responded and it was glorious.

Thank you, this was wonderful!

Edited to add: I finally got to see Jason skate live last night, and what a skate it was. The crowd was on their feet before he was even finished. His arms, his upper body carriage, his extensions - all exquisite. No one skates like him and I am so thankful to have finally experienced it live. And yeah, finishing top freaking 4 in the free skate, getting the highest PCS of any male competitor, and ensuring (once again) that the US men get 3 spots for the Olympics. I couldn't ask for anything more!

It took me a second or two, but then I read "Reel Around the Sun" and started jumping around with so much excitement. OMG! He's doing Riverdance! It had many of the original elements, but was shorter and more stripped down. But Jason revved up the crowd, something he would never have done before and it was so much fun! 11 years later, he brought it back to Boston. This was a great World's for Jason and I think people really appreciate who he is and what he's done now. He's so amazing!

Thank you! It's fantastic! I was and am SO excited that he did this and with such confidence and joy! When that music came on, the audience finally got it and the screams began! And when it ended, despite the fact that the audience was not fully illuminated, we could see them on their feet! What a bonus to this World's this was!

I have to say, I think it was last season, I made a comment that perhaps it was time for Jason to retire.

He made me eat my words! LOL and I ate them gladly! LOL

I have seen Jason skate in shows, but never in competition until this week. He was so happy with his performances, and I'm glad I was able to see them.

Once again, the US men get three spots in the Olympics thanks to Jason.

I don't know when he will decide to retire (and I don't mean that in a snarky way, everyone has to retire at one point) but I hope that when he does, he looks back on his career and loves what he has accomplished!

He has come so far!

I remember Rohene (I think) saying that he decided to give Riverdance to Jason at 19 because he had the stamina to do it then, and he might not when he was older. 😊 Even so,I remember it took Jason all summer and fall to get it to where it was at Nats. I think at one point Karne did a compilation of all the competitions where he did it, so you could see the progress.

To completely change subjects, has he said if he’s going to be keeping this SP/FS next season? I would love to see Sinnerman again but I guess it’s unlikely.

Also: do we know if he’s been offered World Team Trophy? It would be great if he could get another competition in those new boots and increase his difficulty a bit), but If they go by world ranking I think they might send someone else (Jimmy? Andrew?).

Time will tell, I guess. 😊

What a glorious Free Skate from Jason! I was so happy and relieved to see him back!!
Jason has never been out of top 9 at Worlds (or Olympics-or any other competition he competed in) and I'm glad this one was not the exception. Not a double digit placement in his whole career, junior and senior (source Wikipedia).
I'm especially relieved to see his axels back and fully rotated.
Looking at the latest World Standings, IIlia is 1st and Jason is 24th (Camden 20th). Based on his Worlds achievement, he's a solid second best US man at this point and I doubt that will change next season, so my assumption is he will go the the WTT unless he himself declines for personal reasons.
I'm also curious if he'll keep this season's programs for next season or if he'll skate to Riverdance as a short next season (which would be so iconic).

I think the skaters that are offered the WTT is based on the placement at this season's Worlds. Ilia and Jason should be offered the two spots. Alyssa and Isabeau should be offered the two spots, Chock and Bates and P/C should be offered the two spots and Alissa and Misha should be offered a spot. The other spot for pairs could be offered to McBeath and Packman because Danny O'Shea needs to have surgery.

It's really unfortunate for Danny, but otherwise, this is a seriously good lineup for Team USA!

Actually, I believe it’s based on World Standings after this year’s worlds, which means Camden is ahead of Jason. US does have some leeway in selection for good cause, so I guess we just wait and see.

The World standings should change once the World's results are factored in? I don't know how often they update them. But it makes sense to include World's as it's basically the end of the season.

These are as of March 30 and unfortunately it looks like 2025 Worlds are already factored in because it shows that he earned 574 points for 2025 Worlds, which is what you get for 8th place.

Jason still has a chance to be selected- it’s just not a sure thing. Since the first half of his season was pretty much a nightmare with the boots, USFS may want to give him the opportunity to compete again. And I think he’s very popular in Japan. On the other hand, they may want to give the chance to Camden or Andrew or even one of the younger guys. I don’t know what the deadline is to announce the skaters but I’d guess it’s pretty soon. 😊

ETA according to this deadline for confirming entries is Thursday April 3 at 20.00 hours (8 pm) Tokyo time which I think is some time Friday am EST. So I’m guessing we’ll probably hear on Friday-ish. 😊

I don't think they select strictly on WS or to give chances. I think they select the team who has the most potential to get the best result and that team is Ilia and Jason, aka the optimal team based on reliability over the years and latest achievements.
