So sorry to hear about your friend's passing, my condolences. I remember our lunch fondly. Lake Placid is still a trek for me but should be worth it.

It will be worth it. I went to SKAM in 2017 and it was super fun. It was almost legendary. The stinging insects all over the ice, the hotels that hadn't really been updated since 1980, the restaurants that couldn't handle the crowds for dinner, Raf at the bar every night talking to all and sundry, Ashley Wagner's withdrawal, Adam Rippon's dislocated shoulder, Daniel Samohin's dislocated shoulder (Adam reset his and kept going) Kaori's stunning 2nd place finish and her now trademark joy after she completed her FS, climbing up and down the steps at the arena with a broken foot (yes, I had a broken foot) seeing a snowfall turn the town into Narnia, and the beautiful trip up and back. I so wanted to see what things are like now. And don't miss a stop at the Olympic Museum. That was fun. Be sure to buy a little rubber duckie with a gold medal in the gift shop if they still have them. My granddaughters still have theirs. But it's an extra 7 hours from Virginia to Lake Placid than we traveled in 2017. Can't do it this year. If they ever have a SKAM in Greensboro NC, I could probably make that one. It's only 3 hours from here. So far, they've been farther away than I can manage.

As for food, we mostly lived on Kind bars and quesadillas in the arena restaurant. It worked. The pizza shop was good too. When we all descended on it one night, they had to call in all hands, but we all got fed and everyone was cheerful. We stayed at the Best Western across the street and lived on the free breakfast as well. It had no elevator, which was quite challenging with a broken foot! But it was truly an adventure and we loved it! Post as much as you can!

It was an unexpected set of circumstances of medical mistakes and a rampaging case of cancer. It's been a very difficult time for me. But she chose the path that she wanted to take and I supported her fully. I was with her the day before she died and I knew she was not going to last much longer. From diagnosis to death was about a month. From the first undiagnosed symptom to death was about 5 months. It was shocking. Do check out her obit in the NY Times. It's really good. She knew they were going to do her obit and it made her happy. We were in daily contact until she couldn't do it anymore and it's left a huge void in my life that I'm trying hard to adjust to. Her brother and I kind of bonded that week, while sorting through her personal stuff and getting the townhouse ready for transfer and sale. We knew each other, but now we know each other better. It was good.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your friend, it is very tough to lose loved ones especially so quickly and to such a painful disease. It's good that you and her brother can support each other. :cry:
 
Jason did promotions on local TV for Skate Milwaukee and the US Junior Cup, while he was there to present workshops and judge a choreo spin contest.

I love seeing Jason involved with more aspects of figure skating than competing. Makes me think he'll always have a place in the sport. And it's great getting him involved with junior skaters - they can learn a lot about presentation from him. I think we need more of that - it's not just a quad world.
 
So this is something he’s wanted to skate to for a while! During Worlds last year, Robin Cousins said on commentary that Brian Orser had been texting him, that he’d like what they’d come up with for the 24/25 season - that Jason had found a song by an english singer on youtube that he wanted to skate to, but it wasn’t cleared for copyright so they had to leave it and resulted in Spiegel im Spiegel.

So I assume that the copyright is sorted (guessing had time to reach out to the artist to clear it - I imagine the possibility of reaching an olympic audience is persuasive) now and he gets to skate to it!!

The cover is sooooo soulful, I’m going to be in tears watching it live I fear!
 
Thank you for sharing that story @fzztsimmons, how interesting, I had no idea this was the song that he'd had copyright issues with!

Having watched the video kindly provided by @katmari, even though I am out of the loop on the singer or the song, I like the soulful intensity, I think Jason could (of course) slay.

That performance was 4 minutes 9 seconds, so the timing is good for a FS, without much editing. They might need to speed it up, which would take care of the 9 seconds. But it could be very effective. And Jason and Ro love a single piece of music that can be interpreted. I had not heard that story, so this makes it doubly interesting. Jason can handle the emotional drama of the song and really sell it.
