Jason Brown

I saw Rohene refer to the new SP on Faceook as Riverdance 3.0.

Here's a look back at Jason's previous Riverdance performances:

Riverdance 1.0 2013/2014 Free Program

Riverdance 2.0 Gala performance at 2025 Worlds

Riverdance Extra duet with Shae Lynne Bourne at Friends on Ice 2022

I never ever get tired of watching either of these. Ever.

EEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.................You can see the evolution of Jason's performance skills just in that short clip of the footwork - and maybe a bit of Rohene's growth as a choreographer. But. I'm almost feeling like this is Jason's "swan song!" He came to national prominence with the original program and maybe he's saying goodbye to competitive skating with Riverdance 3.0. :console: What makes me truly excited though was the fact I was in Boston for the original and I'll be in St. Louis for this one.

So jealous!!!

That was my first thought, also. A full circle moment. I hope this season isn't the last we see of competitive Jason, but I suspect it is.

Highly recommended: this in-depth article about Jason, with quotes from Tracy and Rohene as well.

Jason claims never say never about his last competitive season, but we all know what we think. ;)

And I think every single skating fan should hear this from Tracy, whether they are a Jason fan or not (particularly if not)

When Jason "first came [to TCC], I remember when he started skating, everyone stopped to watch him,” Wilson said. It’s like that wherever they go. On practice ice at competitions, his competitors will stop training to ask for autographs or selfies. Time and time again she’ll look over at coaches beside her watching him and see tears in their eyes.

“The respect he has is truly incredible,” she said. “He's such a unique skater, and such a special skater in that way.”

That's a really great piece of sports journalism! I'm delighted that he's not announcing his retirement with Riverdance. But I do think it's a bookend and it also completes the circle. No matter what he decides to do after this Olympics, he's making a strong statement with the two programs that he's doing. He's showing us who he is and how he's persevered and kept going! And he's inspiring skaters to stay with it longer.

I think Jason in his own way has revolutionized men's figure skating. We went thru that wretched period where all the men were just jumping, falling, delivering uninteresting programs (IMO) and then Jason started climbing the ranks and people started appreciating his programs and his non-quad skating skills. It seems to me like choreographers came to a conclusion that you could also get high points with beautiful choreography and skating almost as well as the jumps. I'm probably waxing enthusiasm but I think to win these days you have to do more than jump......and I really think Jason accomplished that through his dedication and delivery.

Totally agree!

I love this quotation from the article:
His free program leans further than ever into his passion for contemporary dance and the ways in which it melds with figure skating as an art form.

As a contemporary dancer and choreographer, I can't even EXPLAIN how excited I am to see this one for the first time!

From a new NBC Olympics article (great, BTW. Should definitely read).

“Returning to Riverdance isn’t, Brown said, a retirement announcement. Twice after Olympic cycles he was sure he would quit, and twice he found himself returning to competitive ice. Nor is it an attempt to recreate a moment, to return to the bright-eyed teenager making his first mark on the sport. Brown called the ability to return to the piece 12 years later a "privilege and honor,” and this time around, he’s approaching the routine from a much more mature standpoint. “
