Jason Brown

I suspect Jason is equally strong-willed. And why on earth would he want to ditch Rohene Ward, who is one of THE best choreographers in the sport today? I expect the opposite--I wouldn't be the least surprised if he gets a ton more inquiries about choreographing programs next year, especially if Jason skates well. I would love that to happen.

Rohene wasn't trained as a choreographer...He just is one. That's what USFS is worrying about.

The USFSA can be idiotic. The choreography and the performance are both full of joy, which is exactly what people are responding to. It's a fresh approach--and a breath of fresh air. I don't see any USFSA-approved choreographers currently garnering 3.7 million plus hits on youtube for their work.

LOL, I'm rather passionate about this so I may be OVERagreeing with you. :)

The positive thing, however, is that it does seem they're not "rebels without a cause." They have adjusted the program to respond to some of the USFSA's concerns. For example, the double axel used to be in a place where it looked like that Jason was doing a 2A IN THE MIDDLE of a footwork sequence. Now it's really clear that the 2A is now BEFORE the footwork, heh.

In any case, Jason, Kori and Rohene are defying all sorts of USFSA logic so I expect they will continue to do so in the future. In fact, my husband loves them for that. For him THEIR approach is logical. :)

Weakankles no worries. You're in good company. And even though they are defying USFSA logic, it does seem like Kori does her homework and "stays within the lines" so-to-speak. I used to watch Rohene skate and felt the same way I did when I watched Emmanuel Sandhu.....obvious talent, wonderful choreography, but not a competitor. I think Rohene has found his niche. I'm so tired of the same ol' same ol' - Carmen, Four Seasons, the interminable tangoes, Swan Lake, yada! yada! I love that they thought out of the box and came up with this awesome piece of choreography. I love that Kori and Rohene are pushing Jason and believing in him so strongly that he believes in himself. While I can hardly wait for the 2018 Olys, I'm looking forward to all the great Jason moments between now and then.

Here's hoping for a top 10 finish tomorrow.

Thanks for posting that NYT article! Really, really interesting read!!! I'm glad they didn't cave to the pressure! I really enjoyed the growth in the Prince program this second year; and I have to shout out to Mrs. P for providing videos that let me watch the development of the Riverdance program - so cool!

Great article. The development of Riverdance sounds like a form of horrible torture.

My jaw dropped when they said that there were problems at Champs Camp and that the USFS isn't pleased that Rohene isn't a "proper" choreographer! This only serves to prove that there are plenty of idiots at the USFSA!

(Also, the concept of Jason staring at the judges but he can't actually see them makes me ).

Also I am intrigued...I wonder what a Pearl Harbour program would have looked like. I avoid watching the movie because I very much dislike it, what's the score like?

It's a Hans Zimmer score. He did Gladiator, The Lion King, etc.

Also if anyone was curious, those are actual snowflakes in that portrait! I complimented the photographer on Twitter and we ended up chatting for a bit, so I asked if it was snowing.

He said it was, that it was really cold and that Jason was very generous, kind and enthusiastic during the process. (As usual. :) )

Pearl Harbor is very dramatic as I remember - and beautiful. Frankly, I would rather see Jason skate to something lyrical and almost whimsical where his personality can shine through rather than dark and potentially heavy stuff. But - if you had told me last year that he would skate to Riverdance this year I would have laughed out loud. So I'm just going to hope that Rohene has some magic for next year's programs.
