Javier Fernandez

So glad Javi had a great SP! Buena suerte in the FS. He is so exciting live! :cheer:

I just saw an interview where Yuzuru commented pretty in depth on Patrick/Shoma/Javi/Boyang's styles. And it felt like a good foray into his mind.

Might be a good (but too long) question for Javi - sort of his perspective on the field, especially his top rivals for podium today.

------

Also. FINALLY CLEAN for SP :D cat reflexes save another day.
And kills that "old guard demise" talk. grr.

Would you have the link for this interview ?

CLEAN SP !!!! it was so beautiful I'm still trying to recover from it ! the landing of his 3A too was WOW

His cat like reflexes are so awesome! You got to admire how he saves his jumps! Good it went well for him, we can't have him having SP block. I guess he's relieved a little now too, now that he has succesful SP. Onto FP now! Hope it will go well enough to secure 5th straight title :)

Great we have 200 pages now! :hap10:

Hello, everyone!

I'm here because I need some help and I think you might be excellent in this... I'm a journalism student and after a lot of tryings, I have finally an interview with Javier Fernández! I'm so, so excited that I don't know what to do. The problem is that I'm a fan of his but on a 'amateur' level, so to say, I follow the competitions and I always try to see him, but I don't know a lot about technique. I'm coming to this forum to ask for your help with the questions. I want to try and make a different interview than the usuals (how did you start with ice figure skating, what are you planning to do when you retire and so on; the basic stuff) so I can impress him and also, make it enjoyable for the both of us. It seems that it will be a 10-15 minutes interview, more or less.

So, if anyone has any questions that really want to ask him or original/different questions, could you send them to me? I have tomorrow friday and all the weekend to prepare, so if anybody wants to guide me a little in the technical stuff, I would also appreciate it. The interview will be in Spanish, but I can translate all your questions :)

I will be here all weekend, since it's the Europeans and I have to keep an eye on him, but also I will be reading this forum. So feel free to contact me, through this thread or with personal messages. Everyone will be appreciated and welcome! .x

Hi - thanks for offering to consider our questions!

Can you ask him about the slice of lemon he always bites on before taking the ice? It's a very unusual ritual and a signature of his among skaters. How does it help him?

Also, as it is extremely rare in this sport for anyone to make it to the top of the world from such a small skating country, did he ever feel that may have been a disadvantage, that he had to work harder and prove himself more than other skaters coming from countries with great figure skating history?

I watched interview, I have an urge to steal his eyelashes! Mizar, I'm jealous you'll get a chance to talk with Javi! Personally I'd love to hear who takes care of Effy when he's not in Toronto. And if she punishes him somehow for leaving her alone so often

Tureis, that's a really good question! I wanted to ask about his rituals before hitting the ice, so this way I can be more specific. So, I'm including the lemon between my questions.

The other question, I feel like it's somewhat predictable... I'm from Spain, and here, all his interviews always are about how hard he has to work to be recognized and how he started his career. I'm not sure if you know about it, but he has published an autobiography. He even said that he had made the details about his start "less rough" because he didn't want to discourage people starting to skate on Spain.

Cathlen, I have to say that I'm so nervous though. I'm starstruck and I hope my voice doesn't tremble or anything... I've wanted to do this interview for so long that I can't believe that they agreed :D I will try to fit your question, but since the interview is only 10 minutes long, I think I might have to focus on more ice-related stuff... Thank you anyways for suggesting it!

Of course I will! I'll try to double check with you my questions if it's possible. Right now I'm just researching all the interviews I can and gathering the questions to prepare my guide for the interview.

A short report from the FS practice at Ostrava. First on the ice as usual, did his warm-up routine and had plenty of time to go through the jump passes before his music came on. The usual order and everything looked good - only 2T in the quad combo, but he did not try that again at all. Held his left knee a bit in the beginning - hope no problems there.

Runthrough went ok, skipped the quad combo, missed the 3A combo, skipped the first spin. Added the 2T to the second axel! Messed up the 3Fcombo, beautiful lutz. 3Lo with a step-out. Repeated all mistakes jumps with success. Did quite a few single quads at the end. Cooled down. Signed and selfied with a few dozen fans.

Love the return of the slightly longer hair and the beard! The press with happy Javi was so good to see!

Now the dance before the free... Can't wait for Elvis to return to the arena!

Okay, so I have my guide for the interview more or less ready, so if anyone has time and wants, I can pass them the list of questions (translated) through private message to have one last opinion :)

I'm ready for Javier FS... TV on and waiting! :D

Congrats to Javi for his 5th Eurpeans tittle! :yahoo:
And hope his hip is not hurting him bad, that fall in the quad was really scary :slink:

What an an achievement by Javi. Five straight European titles! He might not have much competition here but it is still incredible how his managed to hang onto the gold this long. That said I'm worried because his LP performance was not ideal. I was hoping he would replicate his Rostelecom skate but sadly it didn't pan out. He really needs to land those quads and those other jumps well at Worlds if his ever going to defend his title or get into the podium. The likes of Chen and Uno are knocking 200+ FS scores and a mistake riddled program like this one could see him off the podium.

Congrats to Javi for his 5th Eurpeans tittle! :yahoo:
And hope his hip is not hurting him bad, that fall in the quad was really scary :slink:
At this point, a fall on the butt seems safer than a fall on the hip. It is scary, indeed. I hope he is not injured.

That was a really slippery fall that looked pretty hard so I hope he is just a bit bruised at the most. I hope he can now go home and just train for the next couple of months... get his jumps back. Things are not easy right now, everything is a fight. However, he usually peaks for world's so I am not too worried.

Congratulations Javi holding on for the win. Whew! Respect for fighting for that program, thinking on his feet. Man that fall was scary. Hope he's okay.
