I honestly didn't expect this - and neither did he by the looks of things! I leaned in, fully execting a "2" to show up - and when I saw "1" instead - I just screamed! And when I had attention to spare, I saw Javi with his jaw hanging open, looking completely shocked!

I'm so happy for him! World Champion. (beams) :)

Oh, if you haven't seen Javi's Chaplin LP - you really should! His Euros' performance is the one you want - his one stumble even was Chaplinesque.:)

Exactly, I think most of us felt just like Javi at that moment and were making pretty much the same face :laugh:
 
Congrats Javi!!

I unearthed his FS from 4 years ago, when he placed 10th at Worlds and man I amazed at his development since then:

I remember back then he was a fan favorite with great quads but not necessarily a medal contender. Starting by moving over to Orser, he really stepped it up.

Today was yet another achievement in this journey!
 
Javi didn't even make the free skate on his first couple trips to Worlds...then it was a very slow uphill climb to the top ten...this has to be so satisfying for him, the culmination of a long struggle. Not everyone gets a happy ending like that. May his gold medal open the door to all kinds of new opportunities.

Oh wow that was truly amazing! 3 quads! :dance: And he so could have passed off that stumble as part of the choreo!

Although now I wonder if the ice in China was just really bad or something, he certainly looked sure on his feet there!

:love: JAVI!!! So happy it finally happened! I was very nervous for him; didn't watch the competition live but watched it in order without checking results, so basically the same thing. :p I thought he really deserved it after the LP, and I'm glad he got it.

Interesting to see him that surprised. I guess he didn't know how Yuzuru and Denis skated, and didn't know if that would be enough. But it shows how he was thinking about that fall, and wanted to deliver an even better performance. I hope he can in the future--the three quads, Javi, you can do it! And, er, maybe less pigeon-holed LPs next year, Brian?
 
Javi's reaction in the K&C is the one of the best! It's funny because the audience at home already see that he is leading and they do the Chinese announcement first, saying he is in first, but I guess on the big screen it is your mark first, then they reveal your rank, so it was wonderful to see how he reacted!

Yeah, really hoping that Nam doesn't become the next Javi and that Javi can do other types of programs.

Omg, a FP with a mix Queen songs would be a really bomb. I can imagine it perfectly. Javier and Queen music...great combination.
