Javier Fernandez

Javi have a bit of consistency problems with his jumps here and there, but in the current field I think he's probably the skater that can get the closest to Yuzu. And if he really want a medal at the next Olympics, he really need to put those quads out there. We don't know what the man's competition is going to be like in two years, and at this point only the PCS are not going to cut it.

Good decision with the quads  and I have to post after every competition about how much I love this SP *hides*

Videos from the Spanish Nationals:

Short

Free (it's around 1h27min plus right at the end check men's podium)

Gala (Touch of Evil from a distance)

Plus from Rome a couple days ago a skating camp with Miki, Valentina Marchei etc. with interviews (in Italian)

I was kind of worried about the SP with the second quad, i.e. how much it will affect the overall pattern, but it's ok. Although two circular preparations for jumps make the beginning slightly repetitive. Plus for the first time he finished after the music had stopped... FS not very glorious.

An interesting tidbit revealed in the Italian interview - two 3As in the free under work! (However, the timeline of that change remains unclear when I listened to it again, maybe already in the spring?)

Good for Javi for trying to up his content. Yuzu did it, and the best motivator is seeing your training partner do it. I love that these 2 can push each other and influence the other... Yuzu picking up the 4S that Javi had, Javi adopting a better work ethic and now upping content...and both of them getting better because of it. We, the fans, get a real treat when they bring out the best in each other... which will hopefully be in Boston!! I hope for a 1-2 for them again, in whatever order.

I think, when they're on the ice together, for fun, they should play that song: anything you can do I can do better, i can do anything better than you....yes, i can, no you can't, yes i can, no you can't etc..

Is he planning to add a second 3A? Great! Now he's really stepping it up  I love the out-of-the-blue 3T, but that jumping pass could be used for another triple with a higher BV.
I didn't expect outstanding performances at Nationals, he doesn't need them to win and it's best to save them for Worlds, but it was a perfect chance to try a riskier layout

That 3T is my fave jump in that program, glad i m not the only one, its like BAM! But i m also glad he is adding more difficulty, though not sure if they will add 3A this season

Yeah, he would probably need the second 3A - and it would have to be in combination, btw - to match Hanyu's technical score already this season if he really intends to fight for the World title. And considering how well the 3A has been working this season, why not?

The Italian translation refers to next season explicitly (on third listening ;-) ), but I would have wanted to hear what he actually said and not merely the translation.

Both the easy jumps at the end of the free are really excellent - the 3T without any preparation at all and the way the 3Lo is set to match the change in the music absolutely perfectly... A long time ago some commentator on TV said that it's difficult to do anything directly to music in figure skating, but Javi sure masters that trick. One of my favourite bits of Guys and Dolls is actually the crossovers he does at the beginning of the preparation for the 4S-3T in the (left) corner during a fast bit of music - they're much shorter than what he would do usually just to match the rhythm of the music. <3

A couple of interviews related to the gala in Madrid yesterday:
Atresmdia
RTVE

He did at least Black Betty, Malagueña and skated something with Miki apparently.

He has also said in the mini-interview of RTVE that he is thinking od performing in the next season to music like GREASE soundtrack or some 1980s music!!!!

Looking forward for seeing that!!!

I am too. :luv17: A Spanish Danny Zuko! Judging from how he performed "Black Betty," he can totally pull that off!
