The gala and the event over, sad and ridiculously happy at the same time. If you have ever a chance to do this, I sincerely recommend it. For me it's not just about the competition, but I've come to realize it's also much about meeting people... Last year in Barcelona I sat next to a Japanese Yuzu fan and we were able to reconnect now. There's a huge bunch of lovely Italians froman the trip to Bratislava. This time also some more Italians from the roller skating world - also the reining world champion on men and pairs (a very handsome young man!) and their equivalent of Tarasova :-D (male though)... It was cool to compare the sports and all.
If you have seen the gala, you know that Danny Boy went incredibly well, the 3Lo maybe the best I've ever seen him do. Plus a 3A and 4S+2T in the end.
After the gala I went to dinner with the Japanese ladies and they decided to go to their hotel restaurant - which was the official skaters hotel... And so when we went there after a magical ride in the ferris wheel in the Vieux Port, my trip got a gigantic cherry on top. You see, Javi was hanging out in the lobby bar.
I had the biography with me for entertainment and realized that it was certainly a huge carpe diem moment. So I gathered all my courage and went and asked for an autograph for the book. If he looked ever so slightly annoyed at being disturbed probably for the umpteenth time that night, the presence of the book softened him quickly enough... So I got a dedication and a signature and a few words... Those eyelashes are even more riduculous live.
It will take a few moments before I get down from this cloud... So despite the unhappy results, a brilliant skating trip again!

I'm heartbroken not about a placement, but that performance. I was afraid this New York trip might've been wrong decision and it really seems like that a little. I really think he has placed upon himself too many duties and it's not going that great with skating now. Do you think he will go back to Toronto between Revolution on Ice and Europeans? Because I'm guessin he's staying in Spain at least till his own show.

Poor Javi! What a tough competition. I'm rooting for him to bounce back.

I loved that, rosacotton, thanks. It looked like at the end there Yuzu was almost sitting on Javi's knee, or close to it, when they posed, lol. When Javi is finished competing, and if Yuzu decides to continue, training without Javi will be very different. They may be rivals, but they are the best kind of rivals. I am so glad they both ended up in Toronto with Brian. We are so lucky Javi found his way to Toronto where his skating life changed...

He does admit a sponsor trip for that plane company he had to do affected his training time - in the 2nd half of this podcast. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/ice-talk/id1143138240?mt=2&i=377404147 ...he is conscious of that I believe....but don't know if 1 charity show would make a huge difference? Maybe he needs to put more limitations on such trips though so he isn't tuckered out or loses training time. He is so gracious & kind to fit those in. Especially the benefit he did for Scott Hamilton. Hopefully he can rest and prep for Worlds and the Olympics!

It was a split second decision. I have kind of "met" him before, but only in occasions meant for fans, like a signing session after small medals in Stockholm, another in Bratislava and after the FS in Barcelona outside the rink when he used a good half an hour for signatures, selfies etc with fans waiting there. This was kind of borderline situation for me - the hotel lobby is kind of a public space and lots of people were there asking for signatures and/or just basically gawking (I, after all, was actually just on my way to dinner...
). Had I not had the book with me, I would have taken a discreet (hah!) look and not done anything... And after I walked away, my head almost exploded - I think my blood pressure got so high that it produced a quick flash of pain at the back of my head. So it was pretty exciting!There was some discussion on his weight earlier, and thinking about how his face looked now and in Bratislava afterwards I realized that he really seems to be thinner than in January. Normal people have cheeks between cheekbone and jaw, but he had just deep hollows there. And a shaver had not been used on Sunday either, as seen in the gala.

It'll be interesting to see how he does at Vielha in the nationals - he can win without really trying at all, but how well will he skate? Especially just one week after the GPF...
Miki will be here in Italy for a skating camp near Rome (next week I think). It's the same one they were both in with Valentina Marchei and Ondrej Hotarek last year. They did not use his name when it was posted recently, so I guess he is not coming this year. And I certainly hope so, because he needs a bit of rest!

Even other skaters wish to take a photo with Javier... He sure is popular everywhere and has so many friends. It´s so good that Javier and Yuzuru are such great friends although rivals at competitions. The atmosphere at TCC must to be fantastic, and besides skaters Orser and his team deserve the thanks for that. It is more valuable if one can train under friendly circumstances.

So happy you got his signature. It takes a lot of courage. I had a chance to possibly get my favorite skater's picture but almost didn't do it. Then I figured I would never forgive myself if I didn't. So I just politely asked if I could take the picture. Javi's book sounds VERY interesting!

Why people are calling him homophobe?Especially since he's certainly not.
Because his words at an interview during the Olympics regarding Russia's homophobic policies got misinterpreted.
It's amazing how people can believe that given that his own coach who he considers a second father is gay. I hate that media constantly brings it up, it's been almost three years...

It's a bit hard to translate since the ladies are speaking in a mix of Catalan and Spanish at the beginning. But Javi said he decided until relatively late in his career that he wanted to compete seriously. And that although at the beginning there may have been little or no domestic competition, the important thing is to stay motivated, enjoy it and try to do your best at every practice session which also gives you confidence for competition. They asked him if the fact that he knew he would eventually have to move out of the country to continue slowed him down in some way. He said it didn't it had been clear for him and his parents. They also asked if he regretted growing up so fast because all the sacrifices he had to do, and he said he doesn't because it made him stronger. They replayed the moment he won Worlds in 2015 and he laughed at his goat noises He also said he's been training with Yuzuru for 3 or 4 years (4 and a half to be more precise, Javi )
Seems like these ladies read his book as they knew he had returned to Spain after leaving Morozov and wasn't too sure about what to do next. She asked him what does Brian do differently for him to regain that motivation. He then said a bit of what I translated of his book about his time with Morozov: how the inability to settle down due to all the moving around was causing him a lot of stress. And that in Toronto, he is able to have a routine, to have everything organized, a place to truly live and people who truly care about him.
The move on to Worlds 2016 and the injury in his heel that didn't even allowed him to skate during practice. They asked about Effie! Javi said he is actually allergic to to cats, though nothing he can't stand. And Effie was a gift, he called her "a beauty of a cat" He usually doesn't let her go into his room, but when he is packing, she sneaks around the closet and gets into the places he doesn't let her go into. He talked about the picture he uploaded on IG and how he looked for her for over half an hour. And he wouldn't be surprised if he accidentally took her with him on his luggage.
