Javier Fernandez

Seeing the GP assignments last night without his name among them was quite miserable... :sad4:

The last week of Fantasy on Ice 2018 is approaching its end. This week Javi has been very low-profile in the general social media blasting from Shizuoka. We got him on watching football whilst having dinner and drinks (probably in Tokyo) with the Russian cast on Monday (a photo and a video clip). Then nothing until today (or at least I did not find anything new) with a clip of Torero/Bullfighter and from Ari Zakarian IG live from the post-show dinner (I think). And of course, being busy playing footie with Plushenko.

Looking forward to seeing him watch the Spain-Russia World Cup quarter final on Sunday afternoon (quite late in Shizuoka) together with the Russians  - well, that is IF he stays on after the show and does not hop on the first vehicle to take him back home to Madrid (there has been some indications that homesickness is ailing him.). He has only a week to rest and recover before the summer camp begins on July 9.

Watching the FOI show on now, and falling even more in love with Prometo.... just so beautiful.

Fantasy on Ice 2018 is over... Javi's performances from the last show have been posted only partially. Unfortunately Prometo is only partial on Twitter :noshake: Torero/Bullfighter on YT. (I mean, if you have to choose which one of his solos to post, why on earth choose that one????)

The Spain-Russia game was preceeded by a minor friendly in Shizuoka between Plushenko and Javi - Javi won that one, it seems ;), but Spain did not fare as well.

After the show, they were apparently unceremoniusly put on a bus and driven to Yokohama/Tokyo and along the way Ari Zakarian was bored many times and did these IG live videos that will most certainly not get posted anywhere, but if you can, try and catch them - they were funny and made me realize we don't get to see enough of Javier Fernánder shaking his b***y (or wearing checkered almost knee high socks with shorts). He was traveling with the Russian cast skaters, Candeloro, Plushenko and Scott Moir who, along the way, celebrated the Canada Day with his favourite honorary Canadian.

I think these were perhaps the most important bits and pieces from today (but if you find any other goodies, please post!). The Niigata show will be out sometime soon as will the Heroes & Future one (the first viewing was only in the Nagano region), so Japan will give a few more tidbits in the coming weeks.

Hope he gets on a plane and back home to Madrid without any problems!

Addition: More football scenes from Heroes & Future by ShibSibs - Javi surely could have saved the Spanish team

It is cool that the tour is getting bigger - although it makes me worried about the Europeans (will Javi have time to prepare for that?!). The query on the city was between Barcelona and Murcia. Logistics will be interesting around the holidays as Canary Islands are pretty far away from mainland Spain and there is only 3 days btw Las Palmas and Madrid.

News items of the Gran Canaria announcement: Canarias 7, La Provincia (with photos), Cabildo de Gran Canaria, from the arena involved, and Marca with a quote on the Europeans. El Mundo did a bit of promotion for the tour as well. FedHielo posted this clip today: Brian supervising a stroking class with Javi hovering between the skaters in the background.

Before that he was in Madrid where he is beginning to be recognized whilst strolling the streets!

The summer camp started on Monday with a gathering on Sunday evening, getting to work on Monday . Promoting the hotel where they are staying. (And also tourism to Spain - he started with Lanzarote and now moves on to the Irati Forests.)

Heroes & Future show was broadcast for the second time and Javi's show version of Man of La Mancha was in it.

This channel on YT has done subs in English to some of Javi's older interviews in Spanish - go check them out if you missed them at the time.

And somehow he also managed to spend quality time with his girl!

Now that it seems quite certain that he will go to the Europeans, will he get new programs? Modern Times would do nicely still as a SP, but with the new rules on the FS, that might have to be a new one. And when will he do that?

We can't know anything for sure, but last year David Wilson came to Spain to work with Javi in the choreography of Man of La Mancha, so I suppose they can do the same this year.

That was really interesting! I have been watching two versions of the same programme on two screens simultaneously, but this is far better for size and timing of the start. Hope this becomes a trend! ;-)

His timing with music is interesting to watch - there are slight differences in jumps and also steps, but the spins are times absolutely the same way in both times. This also really makes me think about his scores at the Olympics - that SP was just about the best he did it all season (apart maybe from Grenoble) and he did not get his SB for that. :noshake:

The second week at Granada began with a meeting last night, a couple of photos. Plus a few photos of Javi and Brian in action last week by Igloo Granda.

Fantasy on Ice Niigata was broadcast during the weekend again, but as it was only an hour long, it did not include that many full performances. They showed a minute of the Torero/Bullfighter, but that's it. The only interesting bit was this 50 s clip from the prcatices which had Javi hanging out with Plushenko.

Plus Maia and Alex Shibutani revealing more of the backstage activities at Heroes & Future on their FB page (is also in IGTV apparently).

El Corte Ingles got a bit excited there - the official announcement was today. Murcia is perhaps not surprising considering that UCAM is one of Javi's sponsors. Javi was in Murcia for the presentation: photos, video. And Murcia is apparently the last thing to add to the tour. So, two dates in November and three around the holidays. Now, two questions remain: who will be the remaining musical guests and most of all, who will skate there?!?

The dates and site for the Spanish Nationals was announced yesterday: Logroño on December 14-16. So, theoretically he has time to participate in it if he wants to before the second part of the tour begins.

The summer camp continues and yesterday Igloo Granada posted an FB video of the Fernández siblings doing a stroking class. With Laura getting obviously more and more professionally involved in coaching and other aspects of figure skating - she recently got her certificate as an ISU level technical specialist - those two could turn into a powerful duo in Spanish skating (actually, they probably already are )...

Add: A short interview in Radio Marca. And a longer video of the announcement event.

It’s a pity I only got into FS when Javi is retiring. But at the same time I’m very happy for him because he sounds happy and content in the interview :)

You are in luck in the video department, because for someone who has been slightly under the main stream figure skating fan radar, Javi's international career is extremely well recorded and mostly probably still available. When I was doing his quad statistics recently, I missed only a few competition videos from his senior career... And there are so many practice clips, fancams etc. Even my first time seeing him skate in 2009 Europeans is recorded - watching the FS I suddenly realized that I was in camera after the skate  And smiling, though my written notes on him were not so very nice (yeah, I wrote short notes on each skater in those early competitions). My Javi video collection is now at ca. 167 Gb.

Enjoy the video hunt and its results!

Yep, I've been busily collecting... what with Javi, Yuzu and all, I may need a special HD just for them!

 When I realized that there was going to be a Javi collection some years ago, I decided just one thing: it will be only moving picture, because it is mostly about the movement after all. And I am rather proud to have kept that vow (well, result lists are a necessity, a few photos here and there and so on, but they are a minority).

So that no one misses the whole Olympic Channel interview: the podcast can be found here.
