If anyone is interested there's a RADIO commentary of Javi's FS at the Olympics (around 1:15:00): https://omny.fm/shows/olympic-games-on-westwood-one-sports/today-in-pyeongchang-day-8
As I've been familiar only with football (soccer) radio commentaries it's interesting to hear commentary for such a visual sport as figure skating (otherwise the program is heavily US-centric...)

And just hope that they keep up the storytelling/character tradition - there is absolutely no one who does that better than Javi.
But I was playing with an idea of Carmen for him - I saw the opera recently and thought that doing the Don Jose arc might be interesting.

Carmen is such a great idea and one of my favourite opers. And Javi is doing Opera on Ice this year hmm ;)

TSL uploaded some practice footage from Boston Worlds the other day. I still remember the day of the FS when news started to appear about him skipping a practice and having some kind of problems... At the time of the last practice session I stumbled upon a Periscope link (never had used that before), clicked it and was suddenly in Boston watching the session from one of the short ends. With Javi just about ready for his RT... I have never loved modern technology more than at that very moment.

There's a longer version of the same practice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhPXWUZiro8&t=34s
and there is the video of morning practice on the day of the FP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59ki4rQVpqo&t=2s :sad21:
and some glimpses of Javi are also here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqZFvGJpU-o

Thank you for all of this!!! :thank: My skating downloads HD is getting very full, may need a new one....

Tally T - for the THIRD time?? Really? It was the last part of the "Superspy medley" for the Vancouver Olympics SP (it usually goes by "James Bond Medley", but only the first part is JB, then it's "Mission Impossible" and to finish "Peter Gunn"). It is weird to watch the SPs from that year, because the music selection changed while the choreo was mainly the same (the fall season it was mostly just Mission Impossible, then at Euros The Mexican OST - his first encounter with Malaguena, btw) until the Worlds when that choreo was ditched for good and they hashed up a version of the old Matrix FS.

The second time Peter Gunn appeared was of course the 2013-4 season FS. Which was actually not that good, IMO probably the worst FS in his time with Orser (even the Verdi opera FS was slightly better). It was just very blah although the judges seemed to like it (got very good PCS scores for the most part). (That season was in general something to forget about.)

Before 2018, there were no Olympics for Javi without Peter Gunn. It was not very lucky for him in the previous times, so not having Peter Gunn in Korea was a relief!

I am also very curious as to what they come up with for his last program(s) - if they decide to do completely new one(s). I was dead against "Man of La Mancha" and disliked "Guys & Dolls" also before I saw both programs - they did a fantastic job with the choice of bits of music to use and the choreo of course. I will put my faith in his team to come up with something memorable! And just hope that they keep up the storytelling/character tradition - there is absolutely no one who does that better than Javi.

But I was playing with an idea of Carmen for him - I saw the opera recently and thought that doing the Don Jose arc might be interesting. I can't remember if anyone has done that before, but Don Jose's development from a good soldier who loves his mother and is falling for the decent girl from his home village to the scorned lover mad enough to kill Carmen could be something to give a new spin to the most popular warhorse in figure skating. However, the femicide makes me unhappy with the idea...

E

I agree with you in almost every thing.
No more Peter Gun, Mission Impossible or anything similar... it's just not him!
But I don´t like the idea of Carmen that much... We have seen it so many times that only if he can give a new and different take is worth to do it. He can do Don José, for sure, but can he give us a new visión of the carácter? I have to admit that I have been watching Virtue&Moir's Carmen lately and I can´t imagine better caracters than the ones they portray in that program.
Anyway, I have a crazy idea. It's crazy because I don´t know if the music is apt for skating and, for sure Lee Marvin singing won´t be the best choice but "I was born under a wandering star" sounds just like the perfect fit for this moment. Yeah, I'm in love with that movie…
I guess we´ll have to wait and let him and his team surprise us...

Let's hope they get on with it! Javi posted a pic from Muskoka as an IG story on Sunday - he is in Canada.

I was kind of happy to see that as he seemed far too content doing all sorts of other things back home like going out with friends (from Sonia Lafuente) and going to some sort of adventure parks... In the past he has had friends over whilst in Muskoka, so I guess it has been a soft landing to work in the autumn...

They also used the set for the phone ad to make this pep video for the Spanish women's basketball team and the World Championships in Spain.

David Wilson was interviewed for Japan Times (probably when he was in Japan in June/July) and he says of Javi

“I think the thing about Javi that’s kind of so different is that in the world of male figure skating, there are all these different types. Javi just comes along and he is like somehow everyman. He has this everyman thing.

“You can’t spend more than five minutes with him and not be charmed by him. He’s the sweetest guy ever. He can do total goofball comedy and then turn around and make you cry.”

I should already know at this age that one should be careful what to wish for  What is the third thing? Some kind of crab?

He will also be interviewed in a program on the Spanish National Ballet's visit to Japan on Saturday. 13:30 pm BS-TBS on August 25th (I guess Japanese time??). This time I seriously wish that it will turn out online!

E

Why is Carmen appearing on majority of male FS forums, is it that of a crowd favorite or dread? LMAO.

Thanks for posting those interview clips - far too short, IMO... But it is amazing that Javi can be used to sell dance and football in Asia!

Sony Japan published some really great photos from Fantasy on Ice!

The Port Carling camp and Beat the Heat show produced small amount of social media action (but you really had to dig them out under the virtual stones) - various staff members posted this photo from their night to celebrate the end of the camp (delighted to see also Oula Jääskeläinen there [back left]). Some of the students posted pics as well: Henry Mendoza, Zaida Mirthala, Tasha Hewitt and Charlie Tavizon (a bit old for a student, so maybe there in some other capacity).

Pics from the show were not many, but some have appeared: Muskoka Region, Jacquie Beaulieu, and therealt_l, who posted a bunch of other photos, but if you patiently scroll forwards, you will find a big prize towards the end ;)

Javi himself chose to post these two pictures with Marina: 1 and 2. Some commentators seem to be a little tired of all the relationship photos, but I say let the man enjoy being (obviously head over heels) in love and show it, too!

Next stop Marostica and Opera on Ice in 3 weeks - it'll be interesting to see what he will do with the opera theme...

Back in Spain for sure: Javi participated in a UCAM inscription event for new athletes in Madrid today. On Twitter and on their webpage.

I've seen some pics from Hanyu's media day at TCC last week that claim Javi was there, but I have not seen covincing evidence so far. Have you seen any?

I hope that they asked him a few questions today at the UCAM meet about his plans...

Edit: And they did ask questions. At least Hielo Espanol did. Man of La Mancha revamped for FS, new SP under way, but hush-hush. Japan Open only certain competition at the moment, maybe nationals, Europeans and sth else if things work out. So, still teetering on the fence over what to do...

And the third part in the Huawei ad series is out: cangrejo yeti. Pez mandarin next unless he gets too annoyed to do it ;)

A new Sp will be lovely an oh I hope we get nationals and Europeans...

Javier Fernández, what are you doing to me? http://www.marca.com/deportes-invierno/2018/09/04/5b8ec99a468aeb714d8b4629.html

Wonderful, I feel now great relief, because it has seemed there will not be much time for him to prepare for the Europeans with all the shows and Japan Open, etc.

Wondering if his new sp might be "Prometo" with some changes?

I am happy that Prometo will not be turned into a competition program - would have been a waste of a very fantastic routine on its own.

This week has seen some Javi action (though not so much on ice). On Monday he received an award from the Fundación Anastasio de Gracia-FITEL and he was there to receive it.

On Wednesday evening there was an event in Madrid on the Huawei-CrisCancer joint charity project and Javi skated in the bird costume, talked about the project and finished his part with Prometo (first time in front of a Spanish audience). There's quite a lot of pics, video clips etc. in social media, so I'll post here only a couple of good examples. One from Marca (with an interview and transcription of it) and TeleMadrid news clip with interview as well. One clip of Prometo, another here, the presentation on ice and the Guinea Fowl number.

Oh, and David Wilson and Sandra Bezic were there also - they had a day with the Revolution on Ice team planning the choreographies! So, not only David, but also Sandra! (Who really does this kind of stuff seldom these days; she really must have liked working with Javi in the spring...)

Then he basically jumped on a plane and arrived in Shanghai a couple of hours ago. He flew through Moscow and was joined by Plushenko for the second part of the journey - I think it's just about time to forget all that yuzuvier stuff and maybe start seriously discussing Javgeni or Plushnandez?!

There were fans to greet him at the airport - some pics from Chinese sources here and here. Pics are also starting to appear in twitter and IG.

The Stars on Ice China weekend in on its way then. I hope we get a few glimpses of what goes on in the practices and in the shows in the coming days!
