Javier Fernandez

My pleasure - I try to catch them all ;)

New interview from Malaga - sth weird there about Prometo and Europeans at the end, but could be just the writer getting things mixed up...

E

Ty for the interview. And yes, that say that Prometo will be a program for the Europeans, but it isn't a direct quote so...idk.But maybe Javi is testing it for the short program.

The ROI cast is enjoying Spain. They visited a flamenco performance in Madrid https://www.instagram.com/p/BqIsWT7hi9s/ (From Yuka Sato's IG) and were having a good time https://www.instagram.com/p/BqI483bBNpp/.
It's really so heartwarming to see how happy they are https://www.instagram.com/p/BqF263nAUnf/ .David Wilson is always excited ;) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqFSr96BQZw/ but it's great to see how excited about EVERYTHING Roi-related Sandra Bezic seems to be, just for example here https://twitter.com/SandraBezic/status/1061907582204420096.
And you can't miss Jeff Buttle's endeavours in Spain  https://twitter.com/J_Butt/status/1062636500087660544 (He is really enchanted by Spain and by having the opportunity to meet David Wilson again. https://twitter.com/J_Butt/status/1061688569696264199, https://twitter.com/J_Butt/status/1061674842913615872).

(Does someone know how to add links the way you don't see the url address but it's hidden under the text? I fail everytime I try to do it...)

It's easy. First, you must select the text where you want to insert the link, then click the button "link" (between the smiley and the envelope) and copy the URL in the window that opens.

Love the publicity and videos, it helps (a bit) with the missing Javi feelings. He is just so charming.... that would have to win more and more people over.

I love Luca Lanotte's sightseeing posts in particular, because he goes to museums  The flamenco concert in Madrid looked awesome, too...

Javi did another football gig on Wednesday with CF Granada. Another customized shirt - I wonder if he ever even thinks of wearing them? And it occurred to me that it is perhaps good that they are not going to Barcelona because he would maybe had had to visit FC Barcelona and get their shirt as well

The TV interview on Canal Sur can be watched here. He also phoned in an interview to their radio station, here. Think he was also on Radio Marca, but that one I have not found yet. He looks a bit tired in the harsh TV studio lights.

Very definite talk of going to Minsk in January and retiring after that. But I am still not buying those flights quite yet...

I doubt that because the choreo is the same as before. For it to work as a competition program, it would have to have a completely different structure. When he has done SPs in shows in the past (Black Betty and Modern Times), the routine has basically been there apart from the most difficult jumps. But he is keeping up Man of La Mancha during the tour.

ROI in Malaga was amazing, awesome, wonderful! Party on ice :hap10:. When I'm able to form coherent English sentences and more importantly when I come home and to my computer I'll write more. It was amazing and Prometo live is just ten times more emotional than in videos. All skaters were great :luv17:

Clairecz, you were there, TOO? Why did I not find out in time?!?

Because I was there, too. And more than 10 000 other people... Now, I have never been a great fan of skating shows, even competition galas get me bored in just a few seconds, but here, I was being the nervous mother hen - how will it go, will people like it, etc. I wanted it to be a success for Javi, repeating Pamplona. And, oh boy, it certainly was a success! The arena was almost sold out, I think there were some seats left in the upper corners. The atmosphere was just amazing!!!! I have been in quite a few full rinks/arenas etc., but this crowd was certainly one of the loudest I have ever heard in my life. And it was beautiful to hear the deafening roar when Javi slid on the ice for the first time for Man of La Mancha. Not to mention every other time he was there

David Wilson and Sandra Bezic have done a great job in designing the show, doing the group numbers and all to accommodate the smallish cast and Spanish audiences with what the international skaters could do in the time that was available. It started with Elladj skating almost in the dark over the soundtrack of Javi talking about skating (the studio time with Carlos Jean was used for this), then there was the Aranjuez Concerto group number with all but Javi on ice. At the end Javi came on ice to do MoLM and it was the short version from the summer shows - but he did it so much better than in Japan, where he messed up quite a few of the jumps. Here, very clean (but eg with a 2A that would have been out of the question in Japan). This was followed by solos from the cast starting with a sort of a solo by the Revolutionettes and Eva Ruiz, Elladj, Yuka. Dytrt & Bonheur, Jeff. Javi introduced Plushenko, who was followed by a Spanishy number by Jeff and ELladj which ended with the clapping battle won by Torero. The first part ended with the acrobats.

The second part started with Chaplins - Anna & Luca first combined with a bit of shenanigans by the Revolutionettes, then of course, Smile with Javi and the girls which was basically an enormous overdose of cuteness. This was followed again by solos. Yuka skated to a ballad sung by Eva Ruiz and people lit their phone flashlights and it was truly a magically beautiful moment. The pair team with Diana Navarro was pretty majestic and impressive. Elladj's solo was a beats battle with Carlos Jean and he wore mics on his skates - this was a genius idea and I really could have watched that even longer.

And then the first notes of Prometo... Just about the most perfect 3 minutes figure skating has ever provided. With no exaggeration whatsoever.

A happy finale song with audience waves to finish off the evening.

We (I was there with the wonderful tureis) had bought out tickets relatively late and we happened to sit near the end of The Tunnel where the skaters came and went on ice. It was so funny to see how Javi seemed almost embarrased and awkward with all the applause people were giving and being the center of attention - especially at the end. But this is now a completely new scale for him. We were so happy and proud and completely ecstatic!

People were taking photos against the huge Javi posters inside the arena. When we went out, the ROI bus was there and people were taking their photos against the bus

We had arrived on Friday and spent Saturday sightseeing in Malaga - at the top of the moorish fortress (Alcazaba), we spotted someone wearing a Thank You Canada Tour jaclet and decided to go and have a chat - anyone wearing that, had to have come to Malaga for ROI, right? And they had - so we had a longish chat about figure skating right there and then...

The crowning event of the weekend took place during the icing break, though... As we sat by The Tunnel, we had spotted David and Sandra going up to watch the show with the crew. And they were there still during the break. We debated two seconds or so whether to ambush them just to say thank you for everything possible and then did it, climbed up to try and get a few minutes with them. And it was the coolest thing ever! I have really dreamed of getting to meet David Wilson one day, and meeting Sandra also was a huge added bonus  It was of course too short a meeting for much talk - they were also on their way somewhere before the second part began - but they were incredibly surprised that anyone recognized them, let alone came to say hi and appreciate their part in the show and in Javi's career in general! I was very happy that we did it and we were shaking for a long time afterwards.

It was all over far too quickly. Just got back home and now I really feel like I would need a day off tomorrow! (We sat up very late into the night talking.)

E for Ecstatic

Yes, I was there, Eppen ;) We even had the same program. I also arrived on Friday (with Thursday and Friday morning spent in Madrid) and was sightseeing on Saturday in Malaga - also in Alcazaba

The show has been already perfectly described by Eppen, so I'll just add some details. It was a-m-a-z-i-n-g. In the beginning the moderator said how many medals combined we will see that evening and began introducing the skaters. Like "three time national champion and world champion, the name" and then people clapped. But when Javi was being introduced it went like this "8-time national champion" Big Applaus "6-time European champion" Big Applaus "2-time World champion" Big Applaus "Olympic bronze medalist" Big Applaus "Javier Fernandez" The Biggest Applaus!! I'd say the majority of the spectators were Spanish (at least in my sector) and they really came to see Javi. He was the absolute STAR of the night.

And it was so great to see how Spanish the whole show was. The songs, the performances, the group numbers. It was really a party on ice. Javi and the organizers and choreographers and skates did so well in creating something so unique in Spain.

It was for the first time I saw every one of the skaters live and it was great. Jeff Buttle is (excuse the probably overused pun) like butter on ice. Sooo smooth. He truly is an artist. (I've never paid much attention to him, so it's probably high time to binge watch his career).
Anna and Luca are lovely and mesmerizing. Elladj is a performer. He connects with the audience so easily.
Plush is a star and he knows it really well. He's also probably one of the few very known skaters in Spain. The steps and security of his jumps are wonderful. Javi (between changing four costumes) even put on a suit AND normal shoes just to stand for one minute on a podium and introduce him. He's such a fanboy

Javi did four numbers. But for some spectators it wasn't enough and they though Jeff was Javi and cheered for him :laugh2:

The whole Chaplin block was so charming. And Prometo is the greatest masterpiece Javi has ever skated and cannot be described with words.

Here are some videos from Twitter: (thank you, maturines, I'm finally able to do it more aesthetically) Prometo, Javi introducing Plush, the cutest moment Javi with a heart, incredible atmosphere in the arena. Javi-references everywhere in Malaga 1 and 2.

Javi is really getting more popular in Spain. It's great to witness. It's a bit off-topic but here are my two nice encounters in Spain. I met a lovely kind lady in Madrid, she showed me the right way to Palacio Real and she wanted to talk all the way. So we both tried probably every Spanish, Italian, French and English word we knew to make it somehow work. Turned out she knew who Javi was. And she said she liked skating very much - but just to watch, that she can't skate. She even asked very excitedly whether I know Javi personally when I've flown such a long way to see him. And in Malaga a vendor in the street asked me where I'm from and whether I'm on vacation. I said that actually I came to see a figure skating show and added Javi's name. Her began nodding his head vigorously and said "es el mejor" and knew about Javi's bronze medal

And my fangirling moment: I asked the organizers by e-mail whether there will be any boxes provided where you can put letters or gifts for the skaters. And they assured me that yes, they will be there. So I wrote Javi a letter (just congratulating him to the medal and wishing him luck for Europeans and all other plans he has) but I couldn't find any boxes in the arena. I asked one of the staff members and she didn't know anything about it. But someone from ROI management team heard us, said that the boxes indeed weren't there but took the letter from me saying he'll give it directly to Javi! I thanked him (stopped breathing) and run out of there so quickly that I came to my senses on the other side of the arena

Oh I do hope we get to see Prometo at Europeans, I loved it in Fantasy on Ice and it has probably grown since then...

I certainly wouldn't mind coming back, eg. with ROI happening every year or every two years in different Spanish cities so I can visit (or have an excuse to visit) more of them ;) or ROI could expand to Portugal, France, Italy ... Czech Republic - that would be sooo great.

Do you think Javi has an opportunity at Europes? or is too soon to tell.

Who knows? If the other guys keep skating as poorly as they have been so far in this season, maybe. But he does have to make an effort himself if he wants that 7th gold... At Grenoble, Brian answered questions about Javi, too. He seems to be of the opinion that Javi will be in the Europeans. The period in Canada will take place after the shows are over (this I saw also Javi say himself in one of the pre-Malaga interviews).

And speaking of the shows, I happened to hear this interview live on radio today (clip one and two). The interesting bit was not available when I last checked, but I heard and tureis heard the sme thing, they are hoping to get a second show in Madrid on December 28... It was still quite uncertain, but wow!!!

The last bit of the Huawei campaign came out yesterday with a few interview clips of Javi also.

And the banner made its way to Grenoble  It has become a minor celebrity in certain skating circles, it seems!:luv17: Eternally grateful to the friends who completed the mission!!!
