JGP - 3 Vienna, Austria

Some of us like to check out the Men's standings in figure skating.

http://www.isufs.org/events/jgp2007/jgpsmen.htm

Rippon - Bulgaria
Mroz - Germany
Mahbanazadeh - Germany
Guan (China) - Estonia
Bariev (Russia) - Croatia
Kanallakan - Croatia
Boroludin (Russia) - Bulgaria
Mura (Japan) - Germany
Sasaki (Japan) - Bulgaria
Schultheiss (Sweden) - Bulgaria
Amadio (France) - Estonia
Dornbush (USA) - Germany
Berniese (Germany) - Estonia
Ten (Canada) - Croatia.
Lum (Canada ) - Bulgaria

Apparently out of the competition are Grigoriev (Rus), Gurilev (Rus) Halverson (USA) and Steenberg (USA). Some of the assignments have been given to skaters whose total scores are less that the ones left out. I'm just:confused: how this JGP decides who gets two assignments.

None of the men are scheduled for Great Britain. I am assuming that that is where the Final takes place. Am I correct?

Joe

No, it's the last event. Perhaps Grigoriev or Gurilev will get it? The Federations decide who goes where for the JGP; and Steenberg and Halverson are out because they didn't finish high enough. I don't know how Russia's doing things.

FYI Joe, I've quoted and replied to your post in the "JGP results/point standings" thread -- go to:

10 new Team USA photos were just added today, including podium shots (ladies' podium is fuzzy but these are not taken by a professional photographer) -- go to IceNetwork's Vienna event page and click on the link titled "Team USA at the JGP Vienna": http://web.icenetwork.com/events/detail.jsp?id=34469

Also, a few more photos have been added in the new "JGP Austria" photo gallery at the link above.

I understand that but how do you explain Dornnbush?

Dornbush is not necessarily going to skate in Germany, so there's nothing to explain.

Look at the USFS International Assignments page for official information on JGP assignments, NOT the ISU JGP events lists.

http://www.usfigureskating.org/Athletes.asp?id=216

As of Monday, September 17th at 10 a.m. EDT, none of the assignments for JGP Bulgaria have been published as yet, and only the Pairs and one Dance team for Germany.

As for JGP GBR, the ISU events page won't be up for that until sometime this coming weekend. And you'll probably have to wait a acouple of weeks before you see the official USFS assignments for the last two events.

I would be careful with comments like these. First of all the entry lists for the JGP # 8 in Sheffield have not been published yet. Closing date is tomorrow. Also Russia is known for just entering names and than changing the entire team several times until shortly before the competition starts.

Sometimes I think the Russians change their skater assignments when they see how the competition shapes up. And I'm constantly surprised that they have 2 slots for ladies and very often, send only one. Makes no sense to me.

Oh, yes. I didn't consider that.

Actually, you could even say that Mirai has the inside track. Even with a mistake, a time deduction and no triple-triple, Mirai's total was within a couple of points of a virtually flawless Rachael.

Flatt has not maxed on out levels yet, so she still has lots of room for growth in her programs.

Rachael needs to work on raising the level of her spins, so no, she hasn't maxed out on her levels by any means.

Not everyone gets results at the same time. old maxim. and in my opion, lady figure skaters do not come into complete performance level until twentyish.
Before then, yes, some climb the heights in the technical at an early age and should be lauded for that. But without any earthy feelings due to their lifestyle they can only immitate the more complete older ladies. JMO.

Let's give Rachael a chance. She's not that far behind the leaders.
