JGP - 3 Vienna, Austria

That would be amazing. But why 3F3L instead of 3F3T?
Because she already has a 3Lz/3T as well as a solo Lutz and a solo fip. So she can't do another 3T.

However, if she did change her flip combo to a 3F/3Lo, then she couldn't also do her solo loop. So she would have to drop that and go with another double Axel.

I agree with your main point. There are only a few points difference between all these different plans, so she should go with what she is most confident about landing. However, if she does both a 3Lz/3T and a 3F/3Lo, that is bound to make the judges sit up and take notice, which will positively affect her scores across the board (including PCSs).

I found Rachael Flatt's speed is slower than most skaters in the last three groups at this competition. Not very impressed. We'll see how she will do today.

Rachael is not the fastest skater ever, but she is not really that slow. She scoots across the ice, but she isn't perky, ajd doesn't have quick movements. I was not prepared to like her at Spokane Nationals, but she has a quiet charm and presence on the ice, a little quaint. She does relate to the music well, and I think one who will be a contender for the world team. Remember, she was fourth in Seniors last year--even with that questionable underrotated 3/3.

Musedembah? Very effective , expressive, beautiful SP in Spokane Nats. She faltered in the long, however. Seems as she hit the same barrier in her LP in Vienna.

Unfortunately, there are what I call, SP skaters: I hope I don't have to put Kristine in that category.

In the 6.0 system, I believe Rachael would be penalized more for lack of speed in her programs then in the CoP system. In the CoP she is scored for each element she does and she does quite a bit. I think if she works on speed, her jumps will get still better. High level jumping depends on good speed. It's a Physics thing.

Samuelson and Bates have won! And by about six points, I believe. After Monko and Tcakhenko in second Pajardi and Caruso won the bronze, but I'm kind of confused of what happened after that; I think I might have heard a score wrong...

Now that the protocols are out, the place where Musademba came out ahead of Flatt in the SP was her spins.

Kristine had two level 4's and one level 3, compared to 2 level 2's and one level 3 for Rachael.

Kristine's PCSs were only a little higher than Rachael's, and Rachael had a slight jump advantage by doing a 3Lz/2T combo to Kristine's 3F/2T.

But in the LP, Kristine's three falls cost her 11.5 points right there. Plus Rachael's base values for jumps were 9 points higher to begin with.

So I hope we can say it was just an off performance by Kristine. But at the same time, at the moment Rachael is really far ahead -- I would say, comparable to Nagasu and Zhang. (For comparison, Flatt's score here was 154.65 versus 159.14 for Mirai at Lake Placid.)

Yes, he looks like young Steph, IMO. But they do share their coach?
Personally, of all Swiss skaters I prefer Jamal ;-)

MM - I missed Novice SP last season. I believe Kristine was first but for the LP along came Ms. Maxwell.
In that contest it was the other way around. Musademba faltered in the short program and finished fifth. Then she gave a great LP and ended up first in the free and second overall.

Maxwell was second in the short, second in the free, and first overall.

Will Kristine be eligible for a second JGP assignment (Great Britain, perhaps)?

I can understand the strategy of USFS in waiting to see how various skaters do before finalizing the roster for the later events. After all, they will want to give second assignments to skaters who did well enough in their first outing to give tham a chance to make the finals. But it must be nerve-racking to the skaters not to know for sure if they will be competing or not.

Some random guy from Poland.
But the question that's on everybody's mind, of course - will Brandon pull a lysacek, or will he not? 7 more skaters to go.

Yes, any US skater placing at least as high as 4th gets a second assignment (Lake Placid has slightly different rules, which is why Angela Maxwell still isn't assigned yet).
