Very, very off topic here... (Although I still think it isn't fair for fans to criticize someone's reaction to something painful, especially if one has explained it.)
Costumes are a part of the artistry. If the costume doesn't fit the program, it will detract from the storyline. It's almost like an actor, playing Macbeth, who goes out in jeans and a t-shirt that says "I've Got Your Girlfriend's Number." Sequins are a skater's choice, and the choice is usually made to add something to a bland costume or to help the costume stand out to the audience/judges. If extra textures/deeper colors are not used, sometimes the motions will appear like a dark moving blur on the ice. Again, it's much like the stage, where actors use heavier make up to make shown the most basic proportions of their face.
