OK, this is a limb, Mom got the impression he might be fabricating (for those that are under the impression a lie and fabrication are the same thing please look it up) and wonder what is up with this. I didn't give it a second thought but now after mom's comments and the comments from the commentators, I am starting to wonder.??? Did he get into a fight and ... Did he stay out to late and did something he wasn't supposed to ... meat someone and think Rene wouldn't understand...??? The key in the pocket never added up to being mentionable as well here is the comments that he woke up in the car on the way...??? What is going on here? Why doesn't this add up. Maybe I just need all Whole facts - even though it is not truly necessary, just wondering. I have got to wonder now. I hate to because I LOVE this couple - and John is cool IMO, and don't want to start some rumor, but it sounds like it is started all ready and wonder what is going on.

????

Hum Sean, does make you wonder why none of his friends he went out with have come forward. I am thinking more in the line of bar room brawl not steping out on his wife.

That was my first comment. I am now thinking "did someone read what I wrote or what they wanted to hear???:p :p :p :p :p"

And NEVER indicated "stepping out on Rene" come on with the conjecture. Please. You can hang out with a group of people your lady does not approve of and have nothing to do with that innuendo. :p

I believe John 100%. That stuff can and has happened in the past in Russia. It can msot likely ahppen anywhere else in a world.

If he were to make it up (and why on earth would somebody do that is beyond me) - wouldn't you think he would find a way not to loose his Olympic ring, somthing he treasures very much???

And belive me, it is entirely possible to loose memory of an attack.

I have no reason to believe that John would make this up.

The only thing that concerned me about the story was his friends. If he didn't come back in a resonable amount of time from the restroom, wouldn't you start to wonder where he was or go looking for him, call the police?? I wonder how far away from the bar or wherever they were was from the hotel?? That could explain why the friends didn't worry about him.

Who knows???

I kind of got the impression that he must have been pretty wasted prior to the incident, which might explain why things don't quite add up... and possibly also why Rena had no interest in tagging along?

I want to clarify that I have no reason not to believe him and just wanted to see what others thought once the commentators brought it up with a "tone of questionability" and to see GSs take on this. Also the idea of him just wanting to forget the horrible circumstance even happened and trying to put it out of his mind, gain what he can from the whole ordeal and move on might explain some of the "questions" too. I don't recall some "bad times" in my life via sub concuss choice, that is fairly normal. Well that and IF he was really drunk, might also make things a little muddy.

I hope John can just put this behind him and be there for his wonderful lady. She has been through a lot in her life and I am just thankful she didn't have a lose of another man in her life.

Don't forget, it's very possible he was drugged, which could explain why he doesn't remember anything til he woke up.

As for his companions, he might've said 'Hey, I've had enough and I'm leaving'. If he was drugged, he was probably not starting to feel 'right', but wouldn't neccessarily have told his friends. If he said his goodnights, there would have been no reason for his friends to look for him.

I don't think the commentators were questioning his honesty. Unfortunately, unless he releases his medical records, there is nothing official to report. All the media can report is an alleged attack. As with any other crime, it is really best to report it - otherwise, there are no charges to press if the criminal is caught. I realize that it is hard emotionally for the victim, but it could conceivable lead to preventing someone else from being hurt.

Gail, thanks for agreeing with me :)

Dutchherder: there is nothing all that unusual with one partner going out and another one staying inside and resting. From a few competitions that I have been personally, I never saw Rena (and a bunch of other skaters too) out in the hotel lobby, bar, etc.. John's own father told us (at SA, when we saw him at dinner time) that Rena likes to stay inside and rest.

I believe John; I thought his demeanor during the interview with the press in Spokane indicated that he was genuinely shaken by the incident. I do think he may have been careless in going to the bar and perhaps he has been known to be heedless like that in the past from all the "hints" people keep posting on boards, but I think like Heyang that something might have been dropped into his drink or he was "encouraged" to drink to the point that he was vulnerable to thugs. He's not extraordinarily young, but I would think the vast majority of people could remember several times that only luck saved them from rather foolish choices. I certainly am not exempt here and I wish him a quick recovery.

I talked to John's sister and asked her about what happened to him. According to her John did get hurt in Russia. It was a scary ordeal that could have cost him his life. I can't imagine why he and his family would make up such a thing.
