Junior worlds-Russian ladies

I was so surprised to learn that Russia holds most titles and medals in the ladies field.
I believe Russia also had the first ladies medal sweep at worlds in 96 and 97, correct me if i'm wrong.
Back then it seemed like Russian ladies were on their way to make a case for them selfs and their country.
Back then I would've bet money that a Russian lady would medal at the 98 games and win in 02.
They had many talented ladies back then, I think they were doing better than the USA ladies. But Russia's winning forumula dissolved and they only produced two world champions ever since.

does anybody know what happened to the likes of:

1-Yelena Ivanova-96 J world champ
2-Yelena Pingatcheva-96 J world silver medallist
3-Daria Timoshenko-99 Junior world champ-Beat Sarah hughes/Julia Sebestian/Victoria Volchekova/Yoshie Honda.
4-Nadezhda Kanaeva-96 J world bronze medallist- Beat Tara Lipinski/Fumie Suguri/Vanessa Gusmeroli/Shizuka Arakawa.

re: Junior worlds-Russian ladies

IIRC, Daria Timochenko is now skating for Azerbaijan or Kazakstan or one of the other former Soviet republics. Don't know what happened to the others.

Re: re: Junior worlds-Russian ladies

never heard of them...IMHO a lot of jr. "future" stars disappear before they even become a major competitor.

Re: re: Junior worlds-Russian ladies

What's coming up the ranks is Oblosova and Nelidina. Will they bring back the old glory?

Re: re: Junior worlds-Russian ladies

Joe, what exactly do you mean by "old glory"? Until Butyrskaya and Slutskaya, no Russian lady has ever held the World title. So if anything, Maria and Irina where the exception.

Re: re: Junior worlds-Russian ladies

I was serious about Oblosova whom I believe did win Jr. Worlds or came in second. Nelidina is brand new and I am not sure she ever went to Jr. Worlds. I just presumed she did. Neither of the these ladies seem to have what Butryskaya and Slutskaya had or have. Unless we consider Baiul a Russian, I am not sure if she did Jrs.

Nelidina is around. What is it with Oblosova"

re:

Kristina Oblosova is really talented, but the girl can't seem to find the right coach or team behind her. She was coached by Irina's coach Zhanna Gromova in 96-97 but left because Zhanna was spending too much with Irina.
She later went to Butryskaya's coach but left her as well, even though I heard Butryskaya's coach showed her the door. Butryskaya's coach stated that she only works with talented students, I wonder what she means about that.

Re: re: Kristina Oblosova

Too bad for KO. Wonder why the Federation didn't pick up on this. I believe she is a talented young lady but I suppose that doesn't make her easy to work with.

Re: re: Kristina Oblosova

Didn't Oblasava win jr. worlds and then never came close to it again the following seasons?
