Kaetlyn Osmond

Well I study Canadian politics on the side. I have a few friends left in that world, one of whom is a talk show host in Toronto & another three are pundits. I also go to the Abby Airshow now annually.

Oh and yes, I am a big Kaetlyn "Comeback Kid" Osmond fan. There's just something... magical about coming back from the athletically dead and Kaetlyn's personality I just want to cheer for. Also the fact Kaetlyn's the first skater I got to meet... not even Sarah Hughes or Kristi Yamaguchi or Jennifer Robinson (my now #2-4 on my favs list). Sad I'll have to wait until 2019 Stars On Ice for a celebratory meetup with Lady Kaetlyn herself but such is my life. Happy for Kaetlyn though she has a personal life outside of skating where Kaetlyn can just be... Kaetlyn and have some normal.

That said, I am also a Virtue-Moir fan for the way they skate like they're two Canadian Snowbirds in formation performing at the Abbotsford Airshow I go to annually. Just perfect formations. Maybe it's just the aviation-centric photographer in me, but I equate skating to flying.

I'll stop there.

I have seen Kaetlyn once, along with Virtue/Moir, when they came to Mississauga for SC2016. My two favourite programs were Virtue/Moir SD and Kaetlyn's SP. Her speed across the ice, presentation to the audience, and height/flow on her jumps really stood out among the field. That was the first major international competition on her rise to the top of the ladies field that I was fortunate enough to attend.

I am a fan of many American skaters also but a lot of them have moved on/are injured such as Richard Dornbush and Joshua Farris. I was pretty happy to see Tarah/Danny win the 4CC this season (their Swan Lake FS has some great highlights especially the hydroblading at the end by Danny) but sad they had to withdraw from Milan.

The most normal, least offensive Rosie DiManno article I've ever read. www.thestar.com/sports/2018/03/25/kaetly-osmond-still-stunned-by-her-world-figure-skating-title.html

I guess she was humbled after being relegated to those Miss Universe Canada assignments, in the fall.

I still don't like her tone. She spends the first few paragraphs talking about the tripping inclident instead of the actual performance :disapp:.

Also, something is not right in the following sentence:

"She knows the sport is headed into uncharted territory; has seen the training video of female Russian sprouts tossing off quintuple-triples and quadruple jumps, which had once been inconceivable for women."

Nice to know Rosie is a jackal. Scared me there.

That said, I hear there are Russians who believe that it's only them and Japan. Do they care to explain Kaetlyn's victory?

Don't go there. There are POSTERS here who can and will at length. DON'T .... GO ..... THERE!

Edited to add:
Phew, I just realized this is a fanfest. All hands to post reporting stations. All hands to post reporting stations.

Maybe she means a five-triple combo? Has anyone done that in practice? It wouldn't be a factor in a competition because there's no reward for the extra jumps, but Rosie may not know that.

All is good.

Perhaps she's referring to this:

It does sound odd, though

Thanks, I kind of thought that’s what she might have meant.

I generally am not picky and don’t have high expectations for journalists covering FS. However, Rosie often uses a sensationalist tone to generate clicks and stirs up controversy. Read some of her articles on V/M (the ‘risqué’ lift is nothing compared to the tone of that article).

Kudos to the YouTube user of that video for his concise (and unambiguous) title :agree::

What do you want/think the reigning World Champion should skate to next season?

For the SP, maybe Kaetlyn can try some Newfoundland folk music or incorporate a section of it. For the FS, since she had so much success with La Boheme in 2017, I would like her to interpret Violetta in La Traviata.

"Come From Away" soundtrack??

For those unfamiliar, ''Come From Away'', is a Canadian and now a Broadway hit musical, and Tony award winner, about the real life events after 911, when a small Newfoundland town more than doubled in size when US airports were closed, and airports in Canada like Gander NF, Halifax, NS and others, became sanctuaries for stranded US bound passengers. It's a story of kindness and compassion despite world events at that time.

''Come from away'' or CFA is an expression used here in east coast Canada, meaning a visitor.

This Yank thinks it took a tremendous amount of bravery to accept all those flights, not knowing if those jetliners were hijacked on 9/11. Thank you Canada.

From Kaetlyn's Facebook, three incredible beauties here, including the 2017 and 2018 World Champions and the 2018 Olympic Champion, at SOI Japan!

I had posted this on the Edge last week, but in case some are reluctant to go into that shark tank, I am re-posting here.

Okay warning as you may need some kleenex, as this is one of the greatest audience reaction ever captured! Just sayin'.

So, Piper (Kaetlyn's bestie) and Larkyn in tears, Scott, Eric, and Chiddy, MT&M, out of their minds, and Kaitlyn Weaver standing on her seat. Even our American cousins, Ashley, Madison & Evan, are sooo excited! I am going to miss this quad so much, from their chemistry, respect for each other as people first, next performers/skaters, and their friendships. This was Amazing to watch!

Thanks for these memories, guys. Stars On Ice or bust everyone, and it starts in Halifax, NS! I know lots of friends who received tickets from the Easter Bunny, so before they are sold out, pick up yours and we'll see you at the Scotiabank Centre. :agree:

Nice photos. Glad to see her have fun with the other skaters, now that the pressure of competitions is off for a while.
