Actually, it‘s a pretty clever move. She‘s had the most successful season of her whole skating career (OGM, OBM, Worlds title...), she‘s probably tired as heck. She needs holiday right now. But I think we‘ll see her at her best at Worlds again!

Agreed Fluture, with more podiums than any other female skater the past 2 seasons, taking a break in the 1st year of the quad cycle, could prove to be very strategic.
 
I don't know that I'd say it's especially strategic, but if she feels like she needs a break from competition, then she should do it. Exhausting oneself isn't ever a good thing, particularly in a context where there's nothing you don't already have on the line (while, as 2018 Worlds shows, you never know what will happen, the most reasonable odds for her on the Grand Prix would involve winning another GPF bronze).

It may also, of course, be a financial matter. Given both the sheer number of events (even in smaller venues) and the fact that "Thank You Canada" is a new thing created by a coterie of the performers rather than a long-running franchise, I'd expect it may be easily the most lucrative gig she's had thus far, in a sport that notoriously isn't overly remunerative (I recall reading in one of the articles on Evgenia's switching over to the TCC that her total earnings from prize money, sponsors, etc. over the last three years was $300,000, which isn't nothing, but compared to most sports it's tiny, and that's for easily the most dominant female skater of the last quad). Always nice to put more money in the bank.

Given that this runs into November, I do wonder how this would potentially affect her returning to do the second half the season, since it would complicate putting programs together. But if she felt that doing this tour was ruling out returning, I suppose she'd have just announced she was skipping the whole season upfront. She could also skip Nationals, frankly, if she wanted to, and just aim to return for Four Continents and Worlds. The fed would put her on the team to those events regardless.
 
She is having a short program for next year choreographed over the next few weeks so I think the plan is to have programs ready if she decides to return next year.
 
That was a nice video. I really liked Laem's description of Kaetlyn at World's: "I don't think she was competing to prove other people wrong. I think she was just kind of doing her thing." To me that sums up Kaetlyn all the time. :agree:

The only weird part for me was their saying that top ten might be a struggle for her if she came back for World's 2019. Really???!
 
I was also confused by what they were saying about the new rules for how many Worlds entries federations get (ie, initially limited to number of skaters who made FS at previous worlds). I thought that only applied to Olympics, not Worlds, so it won't be a consideration until a few years from now.
 
Yes, I was surprised by that as well as I hadn't heard anything about a rule change like that being implemented at World's.
If I'm understanding the change correctly, Kaetlyn and Gabby could finish 1-2 at World's and Canada would still lose a spot if their third lady didn't qualify for the free?

Again though, this is the first I've heard anything about this rule change for World's?! :confused:

I believe the 3rd Canadian lady (someone other than Kaetlyn/Gabby) will have to go to qualifying and instead of 6 spots available, there will be 7 spots. However, we wouldn't be the only country in that boat, Kaz#2, Kor#2, etc..., so there would be at least 9 spots. In addition, we would have sent Alaine to qualifying, even at her worst point this season, she still scored higher than Larkyn internationally* (that was just 1 very bad performance domestically)
 
But is it really for worlds, or were they just confused or we misunderstood what they were saying?

New programs can't be far.
