Kamila Valieva: Anti-doping Case and Follow-ups

But figure skating was never part of the state-sponsored doping scandal, neither was Eteri’s school, whose skaters have been tested numerous times in the last 8 years and were always clean. Kamila is denied the benefit of the doubt and the chance to defend herself just because she is Russian.
I’m not aware of any mmm

Oh…
We are talking as though there’s only one format for L-Carnitine. I got to looking at Salazar’s ban, because one bullet point was that his athlete cocktail included L-Carnitine. And L-Carnitine is not across the board allowed. Infusions of L-Carnitine are banned. Presumably, that means IV’s. Injections are not banned.
So, what format was/is Valieva on?

I came back home where I left my phone and now CNN is reporting she tested positive for 3 heart medications?
I read this also from our Finn's evening post when I woke up an hour ago, it is morning here now. Hypoxen and L-carnitine. It was written at night local time. Two of them are legal in small doses, and she had reported them, they write. L-carnitine is illegal if it is given in large amounts by infusion. I just am wondering why a child needs any heart medicines? Does she have heart problems? But I know couple parents whose children has congenital heart disease. Their have said the children never can train competitive sport.

L-Carnitine is not a prescription drug. One can go and buy it at a vitamin or supplement store. It's naturally found in foods as well. The other two mentioned appear to be prescription drugs. What L-Carnitine Is

BTW, I do not buy the accidentally drinking from grandpa's glass excuse. So trace amounts were on the rim of the glass or something? What?!?

In this case they could have simply said: "Kamila has long standing heart problems (she was born premature or blablabla) that is why she is using hypogen and L-carnitine. And she turned for additional treatment to an expert cardiologist who is unfortunately not expert on wada lists. And this cardiologist suggest her to use TMZ with good intent..."

So in this case there is no need for the grandpa story _at all_...

One of them was L-Carnitine which is in my energy drink that I have every morning. It's not a heart medication. I mean, really? The western news media is out of control.

Finnish media usually is I admit. They just translate articles without background investigating.

We're talking about the most prominent figure skater in the sport right now. She would not consume anything without the federation reviewing the contents, and everyone knows this. She appears to be grasping at straws here with her defense, but inadvertently consuming TMZ is probably the best attempt to come up with something that will clear her name. I would much rather her come clean and throw whoever is responsible under the bus, but of course that's not going to happen.

"Please provide the medical records then that show world class elite athlete Ms. Valieva to suffer from a chronic diagnosed heart condition, her birth records that show she was born prematurely and the name of the cardiologist that gave her medication which is not intended and dangerous for minors" You see why this lie doesn't work?

"She drank from her grandpa's glass? This is completely absurd and physiologically makes 0 sense but as insulting as it is to our intelligence, there's no hard proof for this we could demand..." See why this lie is a bit more sustainable?

In the US we have had several incidents of very young athletes over exerting themselves during practice or games and suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.

While this article is centered around a genetic condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy not all cases have been attributed to the genetic condition. It’s fascinating to read where the science could be leading though. I wouldn’t be surprised if in 10-20 years heart medications and other supplements that increase blood flow are somewhat normalized and seen more as a means of protecting athletes who are regularly achieving higher than average peak performances and heart rates. Maybe it’s even possible the stigma currently associated with such substances will pass and athletes lives may in fact become safer as a result.

Ps...sorry for all the edits. I accidentally posted before I had finished and proofread 😬

Yes, I think you are absolutely right.

I think in America right now, many people have trouble with seeing things in shades of gray, especially because it's a Russian figure skater. I don't remember there being any outrage when Andreea Raducan got to keep her team and vault medals in 2000 and people wanted her to keep her all-around medal. I'm not even sure where I stand regarding Kamila anymore. I was really mad at first when they decided to allow her to compete in the individual event, but I think that anger might be hypocritcal because to this day I still wish Raducan had her all-around gold. I just wish they had gotten the results of Kamila's drug test sooner. Of course, it may or may not have been intentional given it wasn't flagged as priority. Why can't Russia just not cheat?
what do you all have with america? this story is also all over europe and australia, and japan/china. its not just Americans beeing angry , i am from germany and i am angry to, dissapointed as well. because while i sympathize with kamila she should not have been able to compete in the individual , , i don't even care who gets the gold medal in the team comp

Well I guess they could run an experiment to see if indeed there could be enough residual medication left on a glass for someone to pick it up while drinking from the same glass.

But I'm not sure if that would even work because you can't get Kamila's grandpa to do it because he might drink differently if he knows it for his granddaughter's future.

They'd have to find someone of a similar age on the same medication to do it...but then there's a heap of variables...how long did the glass go without being washed etc etc.

Yeah it's dumb...

Girls on the women's Russian team were doing more quads than the men...

Then the Armenian girl Setrekian had monster quads like Valieva... and I thought that was SO suspicious ..

As my cardiologist says -- many girls from group T had abnormally amplified rib cage, which usually is connected to heart problems. The heart problems in young age could be temporary and explained by the fact that kid's body grow faster then heart. But in the same time young figure skater must traing quads and all that stuff because 15-16 is the peak of the careere in fs. So she said they probably all take these heart decease drugs :(( Just opinion.

Never discount the influence of peer pressure. Watching how women’s snowboarding has been progressing is a tangible sign that seeing is believing. By that I mean when Hailey Langland (still a baby) came on to the scene and landed the first Cab Double 1080 others saw and soon were able to mimic her feat.

Now every time the women get together at X-Games, LAAX, Dew Tour, etc the progression continues. My point is watching and more importantly experiencing people achieving things once thought impossible changes the reality of what limitations actually do and don’t exist.

Just look at them thriving only a few short years later

Regarding L-Carnitine - it naturally occurs in the body, and one can buy it as a suplement, and it is not banned by WADA, but any IV infusion with a volume greater than 50 ml in six hours is banned. We don't know yet how much was found in her body. https://healthcare.utah.edu/clinicaltrials/trial.php?id=FP00008621

Also, it would be probably more appropriate to call it supplement than medication, but my point still stands - why to give this substance to 15 year old, along with TMZ and hypoxen? It is not banned, and it supports brain and heart function, and many bodybuilders and fitness guys use it, so one the one hand I understand it on it own, but I find it weird that's they gave two other types of substances to her, and one of them being banned.

Also, hypoxen can be bought in/from Russia only? I found it only with Russian description - https://healthcare.utah.edu/clinicaltrials/trial.php?id=FP00008621

Something is fishy here.
