Kamila Valieva

Our girl did it. You know someone is good when people no longer care about her nationality or the other stuff. There's no-one in the world or has been in the world that could have pulled off a performance like that.

Like I said in the gala thread, she stole the show. I usually don’t pay much attention to gala performances. But this one is an all timer.

And that she can easily do acting or performing for a living.

Her FS is as well acted as anything I have ever seen. It’s something you can really feel.

7.2 million views

6.6 million views (this one will probably keep growing since it's less reliant on immediate recommendation algorithms)

And I'm leaving out a quite a few videos in the 1-3 million range. I have zero doubt that adding up all the views across all the social media platforms would ammount to over 100 million views.

While great, I'd treat this as a job well done and move on to something new. A trendy image like this becomes seen as stale and lame pretty quickly.

Kami with Lyasan Utiasheva (Russian former gymnast) today. It is filming of YouTube-show which Lyasan hosts.
Alina Zagitova was also in that show 3 months ago:

I think full video will appear at Lyasan YouTube channel soon.

Kami post today in her TG:

"Exactly one year ago, the Beijing Olympics took place, where I competed in the team event and presented the short program In Memoriam. For my performance, I received a mark of 90.18, which became a new Olympic record.
This day and this skate will forever remain in my memory. I share the full video and together with you I remember how it was
💜"

Kami with Lyasan Utiasheva interview (47 minutes long)

It's an interesting interview.

She was 45kg at the Olympics and gained 4kg during her break in May and then was able to shed most of it training again.

Leading up to the GP final in 2019 it sounds like she had a broken bone in her right foot and lower left leg, she had to lay still for one month to recover. But it seems like she's been largely injury free since then as she has become a stronger, better prepared athlete.

Diplomatically said Zagtiva and Medvedeva are her favourite skaters.

That was brave of Kamila to attempt a 3A in near darkness. I think she'll be able to land it next week in normal conditions. The darkness really detracted from the spectacle because she looked in peak form.

Her free skate was bizarre by her standards.

She had a bruise showing on her knee going into the short program, and had strapping on the knee for the free skate.

Waiting for the free skate music to begin, she was looking around at the crowd, usually just focuses ahead.

When the Truman music started for the second half it was completely strange. She rushed into the choreography sequence about 3 seconds or so before she was supposed to. It wasn't like her timing was off, she rushed into like she forgot what she was supposed to do. At the Kazan GP she nailed the choreography to the music perfectly. Then it was about one second or so out in the Russian Nationals, she was like 3 seconds out in this free skate. It's become worse each time. I think she simplified it a little too.

Then fell on a triple lutz. That's her first fall on non ultra c the entire season.

The choreography for her short program was perfect and only keeps improving. I'm guessing she practices this and will use it next season. This is what she uses in shows. The free skate she's performed 5 times this year, twice in the last 4 months.

The free skate, I think that's the last we see of it.

I don't know if the emotion of it got to her in the second half of the program, doesn't practice the free skate enough because she won't use it again, aggravated an injury in the short program that inhibited her the free skate, main focus in training has been the 3A and 4T and not going to push herself to the maximum to win gold until everything is resolved.

Including the jump comp, she's landed twelve quad toes in a row now, eleven of them almost perfectly, all correctly rotated.

I think her main issue is the psychological part - ever since she returned on the ice this season you can see that she is fighting her nerves and cant always win in this battle. I have huge respect towards her, for everything she is doing right now to stay competitive and to move on. What happened at the Olympics was horrendous and cruel, and I feel deeply sorry that such a young person has to deal with that amount of pressure. In my opinion, she is currently doing her best and I wish her for the future to keep finding the strength to fight. She is also dealing with growth. To me it also looks like that as far as she reaches the 3F-combo in the free skate, she is already out of steam.

As far as the Truman FS is concerned, I find it overly emotional, every time it leaves me with tears and I can totally imagine that is difficult to skate under this music. This program is dedicated to her trauma. It seemed that yesterday she wasnt very concentrated and indeed something happened during the StepSeq, so she was off the music. After the fall on the 3Lz, she had to rush through the music in order to squeeze the -3T on the backup Lutz. By the way, she was very very smart and didnt hesitate to change the transition as the one for the combo 3Lz and not for the single one (remember once Zagitova did the same mistake, though kept the different transition and as a result fell on the second Lutz as well).

While Anna and Sasha both kind of retired after the Olympics, Kamila is still here to fight. I admire that and keep my fingers crossed that she will be here next season as well, with all the physical and psychological strength she needs! :ghug:

Absolute respect for her still competing and still winning let’s not forget.

Her free skate at Nationals last season was the greatest 4 minutes in the sports history and nothing changes that.

And Kamila is, most probably, the most technically gifted skater ever. And the most dominant when she was on.

At her best, she was untouchable, on the ice and on the scoreboard. Some of her margins of victory look like typos.

And she will have a very successful post career in any case. She is too talented not to.

This has a figure skating angle.
